Nice located, not in downtown but nearby. Excellent service and cosy rooms. Valet parking and very pleasant lobby with fire place. What's more? Sure, very charming bar with a plenty of drinks and fancy staff. Enjoy!

A very good mid priced hotel convenient for most of San Francisco and just a couple of blocks walk from Union Square.

Free coffee in the morning and a free wine hour in the late afternoon were welcome attractions. My room was comfortable and they gave me a kettle to make tea,.

Staff were helpful and friendly, I would stay here again

we stayed Valentine's Weekend 2014. Had wonderful meal at the Grand Cafe on Valentines night. They were completely booked but we had made reservations, so worked out fine. Loved the morning coffee, tea and hot chocolate available in lobby downstairs, as well as evening wine hour. Close walk to Union Square and shopping. Room was very lovely, not large, but compared to rooms in other large cities it was fine. Room service and maid service was excellent. Enjoyed the spa area. I agree that the panhandlers were out there every day, would be less comfortable if a single women walking at night, but as a couple with another couple it was fine.

I stayed here as a single female for four nights on business. As always Kimpton service shined from the moment I checked in to the moment I headed out to catch Bart to the airport. The room was not huge but well organized. The towels and robes were a little warm and it was disappointing that they no longer used Aveda products.

I've stayed at all but one of the Kimptons in SF. I prefer the Sir Francis Drake, Harbor Court and the Prescott. This is due in large part to the location. The Monaco is just one block further south and one block further west from Union Sq. then is truly comfortable for a single woman after dark. The pan handlers are very aggressive.

The only other negative is the restaurant--The Grand Cafe. Beautiful design but below average food and awful service.

This would be a great hotel for couples traveling to San Fran. Close to great cafés and union square, BART and cable car.

As is always a prerequisite for me - a good gym was paramount and I was happy. Wide range of equipment, well maintained and not ever full.
I also had an AMAZING massage in the spa.

The only thing I would say is that as a female traveling alone, I would recommend staying one block closer to union square. It was just a little too close to the creepy tenderloin.
I'd also love to see the restaurant understand and cater to gluten intolerant guests!
Otherwise a good visit

We had a fantastic five night stay in mid March at this well-located and appointed hotel. We checked in late (after midnight) , and the man behind the desk happily helped us order a pizza from a spot just down the road.

Our king room (518) was bright, clean, and comfortable, and decorated in the normal whimsical style of a Monaco- which we love. The window seat was cool, too!
We had very positive interactions with staff such as Lauren (who happily arranged a special birthday amenity for my husband, at my request), Benjy, and Jackson, and others, who very obviously know and love the city of San Francisco. They were happy to answer our millions of questions, and to point us in the right direction.

The location of the hotel makes it a great place to start from. Everything we wanted to see was within a 30 or 40 minute walk, a quick cab ride, or a quick ride on what appeared to be very well laid-out and frequent public transportation. There is also a great store right across the street, selling all kinds of snacks and beer, etc. and it's open late. There are tons of places to shop nearby- but we skipped that because the weather was so nice!

There was some street noise, so I'd bring earplugs if that kind of thing bothers you.
I'd say here again in a second. It was chill, the people were really fantastic, and 5 great sleeps.

Room Tip: Ask for a window seat! (But bring earplugs if street noise bothers you)

We chose Hotel Monaco because of its location, near enough to Union Square but away from the crowds. Our room on the third floor was spacious, clean and met all our needs. Housekeeping were brilliant, our room cleaned when requested and always to a high standard. The staff are polite and very helpful. In short nothing to complain about. We had a continental breakfast included in our rate, which was just right to set you up for the day. Leaving room to enjoy lunches at the Ferry Building or any number of good places to eat. Would stay here again.
