Spent one night here en route to Nashville. Loved the huge room and the luxury feel of the place. Decided to eat in the restaurant and went to the bar for some pre drinks and ended up staying put. The barman was very entertaining and we enjoyed a very good evening eating and drinking. The food was exceptionally good and there was plenty of it. When it came to closing time we moved into the lounge and sat by the fire drinking our whiskeys and enjoying the ambiance.
In the morning a local lady who had strolled into the hotel took us outside to view the cannonball that was lodged in a building down the street. She also spent some time telling us about some of the other local history which was an added bonus for us. The check in staff were friendly and helpful.
Would certainly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Room Tip: We had a room facing onto the main road and you could hear traffic but with the air conditioner on t...

Overall, an excellent 2 night stay in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Our 4th floor room had a great view of the First Presbyterian Church across Main Street. Beautiful lobby, very gracious staff. The President Andrew Johnson historical venues are in easy walking distance. Also, a morning walking tour of downtown & an afternoon tour of the mansion behind the inn are available. We did the presidential venues (all free) during the morning & the mansion tour ($10 ticket) after lunch.
There are several other things to do so plan two full days for activities in the areas.
Plan a trip to Greeneville, Tennessee and a stay at the Gen. Morgan Inn.

This is a beautifully restored historic hotel right in the centre of Downtown Greenville. There is a slight downside to this, although the hotel itself is great - log fire in the majestic reception area, superb staff, spotless rooms full of character and a few quirky bits such as an odd layout of floors.

We stayed at a weekend and this is the downside. Downtown appears to go to sleep about 3PM Saturday and reawaken on Monday morning. Virtually eveything is shut, including the restaurants. The hotel restaurant is also closed on Sunday evening and they only serve breakfast Monday to Friday. Thus you will have a three mile drive to the outskirts of town in order to eat. We did find this a little strange!

Fortunately the nice reception lady directed us to her favourite restaurant, Fatz, about four miles from the hotel. A twenty minute wait for a table showed how popular it is and It was so good we went back the following evening!

Overall, a first class hotel and we would certainly return if in the area.

My husband and I stayed here for the first time this Valentine's Day(2013), loved it! Why did we not stay sooner? We always seem to look for the motel chains. It's historical and been renovated well over the years.
Bed was very comfortable, rooms and hotel clean.
We booked our son and his wife a room there over the Christmas holiday...because our home was full and they enjoyed it too. And my parents stayed there as well. (My Mom is super clean and enjoyed it too) We all booked a special price online for 75.00, where can you stay for 75.00 a night? It's not some where as wonderful as the General Morgan Inn. You are going to love it, stay for a special "date" night or as you pass through. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Our room was street side, not very noisy at all. Rooms are clean and comfortable!

My wife and I had a week-end trip planned out of state for our anniversary. Circumstances changed and we couldn't take the whole week-end, so we decided to travel only 35 miles from home, and celebrate the occasion at the General Morgan Inn. The hotel is right on Main Street.
When you walk into the front lobby, you have stepped back in time. Fire place going, and stuffed chairs and couches. Welcoming person at the desk. We were there on a Saturday night, but got a great rate. We ate dinner in the hotel at Brumley's. My filet was great, and my wife said her salmon was fine. Our server was Daniele and she really took care of us. The room was fine. We were on the 3rd floor in a corner king room. The bed was very comfortable. Bathroom a nice size. The only thing that could use a little up-dating was the TV. It's your older model , but the satelite reception was fine. Very comfortable and quiet night. Sunday morning they have a brunch or order off the menu at 10 AM. We ordered off the menu and the western omlet I ordered was absolutely good! Daniele waited on us again, and she again, took care of us in fine fashion. There are antique stores close to the hotel, but being Sunday, they were closed. But it's one of those kind of hotels, where you feel comfortable and at home just lounging around in the lobby.Everyone from the front desk, the wait staff, housekeeping, and bar tender(Tim) made us feel like they wanted to see us again.

Stayed here while in Greeneville for work November 2012. The staff is friendly, the room was clean. It was a beautiful old building and I was thrilled to see something this old was being so well taken care of. My bed was super comfortable, but was a little too close to the door for my liking, but this was otherwise a fantastic stay. There aren't a lot of food options around, but the restaurant at the hotel had good food, and everyone that works here seems like they actually enjoy working with travelers.

What a wonderful hotel. There is a beautiful lobby. The rooms are nicely appointed. Brumleys restaurant in the lobby is great place for an upscale dinner. There is also a casual lounge with a terrific bar. The town has many historical sites including Andrew Johnson homestead. All in all well worth the trip.
