The great view of Lake Superior is only part of the charm of this motel. The owner and employees are the most friendly and helpful of any where we have stayed. The rooms are clean and though not large have nice features. I liked the roll f paper towels that was provided. We would never consider staying any where else in Bayfield. Plus the rates are very reasonable.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the top floor-better view and easier access.

The Seagull Bay motel is a moderately priced, modest hotel. I am giving it 4 stars relative to the other budget hotels in the area. The buildings and rooms are a little dated, but they do have modern amenities like a small flat screen screen TV, microwave, fridge, coffee pot and free wifi. No A/C but the cool lake breeze doesn't make it necessary. The rooms are close together and open to a shared deck, which can get loud, especially since you need to keep the windows open.

Comfy matresses, although the comforters aren't of the best quality. Great location, a 5 minutes walk to down town Bayfield along a pretty walking trail. Very nice, helpful owners.

Friends had recommended the Seagull Bay Motel to us and they were spot-on. It is just as lovely as it is advertised. Sitting out on our deck the Lake air was fresh and seemed full of extra oxygen! The facilities were extra neat and clean and the staff were friendly, funny and helpful. Beds extra comfy. The shuttle bus stopped right there and took us up and back to a concert we were attending at Big Top Chautauqua. Nice walking trails and close to downtown Bayfield, we will come back again and again.

Room Tip: Rooms on upper floor (such as 202) have great view of Lake Superior and Islands.

Beautiful spot, friendly service. My family comes up here every year. One thing though, some people may find Bayfield boring. There isn't much to do there for some people. I recommend bringing a deck of cards to pass time.

Room Tip: If you want a full kitchen rent the cabin.

This is a GREAT place for people with little kids. The lawn is perfect for running around. On the other hand, as a solo traveler, it was NOT a pleasant experience. When I made the reservation, I was told by the owner that I had a choice between a "shared deck" or a "private balcony". I was SPECIFICALLY looking for a quiet getaway, so it sounded great. The balcony is like an outdoor hallway. There is no policy here about the noise level at any time of the night, so late night parties will be uninterrupted. The office is not staffed during "office hours". When I called to express concern, I was told by the owner "what do you expect me to do? I don't raise other people's children". When I mentioned the absence of staff in the office, he said "you need to call. I am not going to pay staff to stand there." No apology, just hostility. If you are looking for a "hotel" experience, this isn't it. Nice view, but if you sit on the balcony, be prepared to move your legs so the grandkids staying on one side of the hotel can get to the grandparents staying on the opposite side.

Room Tip: If you are looking for peace and quiet, keep shopping.

We have stayed here at least 5 times. The beds are very comfortable, has microwave & mini fridge. We take wine with us and have a drink on the deck. We love that we can leave the car parked and walk into town on the path along the lake. It is usually peaceful & relaxing.

We booked this hotel pretty much the last minute, getting lucky as 80-85% of the rooms are booked a year in advance by returning customers. The views from each room are amazing. Don't expect a new looking place, it isn't. But the beds are comfy, the water pressure in the shower is strong and its hot. There are lawn chairs to sit in outside each door and benches or tables to enjoy the outdoors and views. It is a short walk to town along a path just down the hill. Mike, the owner is wonderful as are the other staff members we met. We enjoyed our stay so much we extended it by another day, only because we got lucky and there was a cancellation.
I would like to see the lights outside of each room replaced with the yellow bug lights so you could sit out longer at night to enjoy the view. (They come on automatically, no switch).
If you smoke, do not plan on staying here as they do not allow smoking anywhere on the grounds.
