We arrived at the inn after a long day kayaking and were told by Michael that there had been a change in their availability at the inn and the room we had reserved in the sister inn could be upgraded to a suite in the main house. He then took us to a fabulous room #12--the Moroccan suite. This room was well worth the climb to the third floor! The room was absolutely lovely. It had an extremely comfortable king bed, a lovely sitting area with a reading cove that had a view of the lake, a two sided fireplace between the bedroom and the bathroom with a whirlpool tub and a second bathroom with a very large shower. The room was very comfortable and quiet.
We walked around Bayfield the first night looking for a place for dinner. The wait time was very long everywhere so we went back to the inn and Michael arranged to have dinner and wine brought to us in our room. The perfect quiet meal after a long day! Breakfast both days of our stay was amazing--all sorts of baked goods and lots of local fresh fruit, although the portions were enormous. We made dinner reservations at the inn on our second night, and we were treated to a lovely relaxing delicious feast.
Special thanks to all the staff that helped to make our stay so nice. This was a great place to stay in the Bayfield area and one of our best B & B experiences ever.

We stayed in the sister property, Le Chateau Boutin, a few blocks away from Old Rittenhouse Inn. Le Chateau is another Victorian gem with tremendous character. When we checked in at Old Rittenhouse we were given directions to Le Chateau and informed that Jerry would meet us to introduce us to the Inn. We walked in the front door and he arrived. Because the innkeepers are not on site at this location he gave us a tour so we felt right at home locating the refrigerator for guests, the kitchen, and how to run the coffeemaker in the pantry. Our room was lovely and comfortable - very spacious! The included breakfas served at the Old Rittenhouse Inn dining room was simply amazing - homebaked muffins and croissants, jam from local berries, a fruit course, and then (as if we had room) a main course with a side, along with the beverages. One of the best breakfasts we've experienced in our B&B stays.

Room Tip: The web site offers a great perspective on the rooms. Be prepared that in Le Chateau there are a fe...

When we were led to our room and told that the dresser held a secret drawer with a note in it, I was sold! Found the note within five minutes and spent the rest of the night enjoying gorgeous room #4. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept on, the soaps smelled great and had the name of the B & B printed on them, the room was stocked with wine glasses, a wine opener, and gorgeous Victorian antiques, and the desk person personally brought us ice. The breakfast and restaurant service the next morning was average, but the wonderful inn service and great character and attention to detail made this a wonderful stay. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room #4 does not have a view of the lake, but it's room and gorgeous with a fireplace, stained g...

This is a superior B&B, arguably the best place to stay in Bayfield. An excellent location, commodious rooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff and plenty of Gemütlichkeit. Only a few things detract. We stayed in two rooms. Room 5 is on the second floor. The only window that opens faces the parking lot on the north which, when opened, admits the sounds and some odors from the large kitchen exhaust device on the floor below. That leaves a rather noisy window-mounted air conditioner as the sole source of fresh air in the room. Room 9, on the ground floor, boasts colorful stained glass windows on the west side, none of which open. Again, a noisy air conditioner is the room’s only source of fresh or cool air. But remember: This huge Victorian mansion offers a dozen guest rooms and not all of them are likely to suffer these relatively minor flaws. The Rittenhouse offers a noted restaurant that provides fine breakfasts and dinners but leaves no other common spaces for a library or social relaxation on the ground floor. If we were visiting Bayfield again, would we stay at the Rittenhouse? Yes, most certainly, we would.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing south toward the Lake. The views are superior.

Staying at the Rittenhouse has been on my bucket list for quite a few years. The opportunity arrived to celebrate my daughter's birthday. What a memorable weekend in Bayfield. The breakfast was beyond words. Thank you for making my dream come true.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful.

My husband and I enjoyed a weekend stay here mid-August. The grounds of all 3 buildings are beautiful. The quality of the old victorian charm is found everywhere in the Rittenhouse. All of the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We did not eat dinner, but the breakfast was awesome!! I'm sure the dinner is just as good or better.

A simply beautiful place with helpful staff, amazing breakfasts! We stayed in the most over-the-top suite we've ever experienced (room 11). A living room with fireplace, jacuzzi, bath with steam shower. This was our first b-and-b experience, and we were relieved to be seated at our own table at breakfast. Spent some afternoon time just relaxing on the porch, which is really lovely.

Room Tip: If you can afford room 11, you are in for a treat. (It was the only one available when we booked.) I...
