“Good service, menu sounded better than it tasted”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2013

We visited last Sunday for lunch. I have to say that the service was good. Our waitress knew the menu and made the suggestion that I sub a salad for my side for a cheaper price than paying for the 8.99 salad for my not-so-hungry daughter. After seeing the less than creative salad (with runny ranch dressing), I am happy I didn't feel burned over the 8.99 entree size. I got the roasted turkey panini for 12.99 which sounded great but was more like the deli meat in the tub from the supermarket and some cheese on some kind of grilled mystery bread. It was edible, but it was by no means a 12.99 sandwich. Also, a word of advice to those who like to imbibe but are not familiar with the local laws: no booze served on Sundays until after 1. Overall, not a horrible experience when you factor in the limited choices in this location but next time I'll look for another option.

“Good food, abysmal service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2013

Stopped at Coach House for lunch on a warm afternoon. Two servers were serving outside. One was efficient and pleasant... we got the other one. Waited for her to get our order... waited for the food, while watching diners at other tables get their orders quickly and with a smile... waited for the water glass being refilled (never happened). Finally she shows up and while one of us is still eating, asks if he was done. Whaa? Getting the check took a while, too. It was after 2pm on a weekday and they were not busy at all - no excuse for slow service and for the surliness.
The food was more creative than we expected, and tasty. I liked the tricolor potato salad. A bit pricey, but this was to be expected in such a touristy location. We would have enjoyed it a lot more if the service was decent.

“Pleasantly surprised, very creative menu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 October 2013

OK, so you're in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and looking for lunch. Every restaurant in town appears to be closed because it's Monday.

Then you run upon the only place that appears to be open: the Coach House Grill. You stop in because you're hungry and, well, what are your options?

I was pleasantly surprised to find a menu that had lots of creativity baked into it: chipotle salsa, blue cheese, hummus, etc. Now, that "creativity" is a little passé for those of us who live in big cities (chipotle seasoned items peaked like 10 years ago) but remember, you're in a small tourist town.

So I had the black and bleu burger, and it was really very good. We also had the hummus, and it was clearly house-made, chunky and thick and a little under-pureed; it could've used a little more tahini but, again, that was a sign that they had made it themselves. The service was very good, and our server was very friendly and made a lot of recommendations.

We discovered on this short stay in Harpers Ferry (about 16 hours) that very few places have liquor licenses. So enjoy the beer!

“Good, over priced lunch”

$12 for platter -- grilled chicken, corn salad, potato salad -- chicken was very dry, but the salads were delicious.

“Casual tourish snack”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

One of a line of shops and casual restaurants along a main tourist street, this is a casual, relaxed place to sit--especially outdoors--and refuel. The hamburger, crab cake, and turkey panino were workmanlike preparations but clearly a cut above fast food level. Service was efficient but pleasant.
