You’ll enjoy a balance of moderate physical exercise, optional nature hikes from camp or along the river, time to read from our rich trip library, great food and company, interesting campfire conversations, spectacular night skies and the profound silence of desert back country. We work with local personalities, guest experts, and quality, locally-owned services. Trips are tailored to age groups, in some cases, because of the nature of the content and level of abilities. Each trip is clearly outlined with age requirements. Youth fees apply up to 17 years of age.Why CFI? CFI strives to create unforgettable experiences. Unique land and river trips focus on activities that bring families and friends, and student groups together to build shared memories and appreciation for the place we call home.- We focus on participation and learning. We are committed to taking a sensible approach to trip planning and provide affordable lodging, delicious and healthy meals, and comfort without the pampering.- CFI incorporates green thinking. We believe in buying locally from the many resources we have close to home, and teaching “leave no trace” and other environmentally sound practices on every trip.- And we are a nonprofit organization. Just recently went on the Mountain Wildflower day seminar. What a great experience. The instructors and staff are great and we received a lot of individualized attention and our questions were answered thoroughly. The instructors were well prepared and we saw some beautiful flowers that could be seen from the trail. Everyone was flexible so we were able to do things not in the "schedule" that added to the enjoyment of the trip. We had a great lunch and were provided with snacks and water. I am a local and hope to participate in more of the CFI programs.

Canyonlands Field Institute goes way beyond what the typical outfitters do for you. Our guide actually had an academic background in archeaology and really knew what she was talking about! I'm all for the usual entertainment-oriented banter you get from most guides, but instead of feeling like I was getting a somewhat well-worn tourist spiel, this was more like a fascinating, engaging EXPIERIENCE -- something I'll remember for the rest of my life. A life-changing milestone. Way to go, CFI. Thank you!

A must-do trip for the curious adventurer! Travel into the beautiful remote Range Creek canyon with loads of sightings of rock art, granaries and archaeological ruins. Guides are knowledgeable in Fremont and the local ranching history. Delicious meals.

Tour educator (Rebecca Martin) was extremely informative, giving us detailed history and pointing out figures that we would have missed if we did this on our own. Ride was comfortable in their van. Very in-depth info of the history of people who made the petroglyphs. Highlight was the climbing trail where we got to see real dinosaur tracks much better preserved than the official track pointed out by the park. Definitely recommend this tour. They even provided water and snacks.
