“Excellent resort fantastic staff. Great restaurant. ”
Reviewed 22 March 2014 via mobile

This is an amazing place. Beautiful location.
The staff however are the real asset here. Absolutely nothing is a problem

Do the horse ride also drive out through Fishers valley. Absolutely great views

Rooms on the river are a split design with the bed downstairs and two upstairs. There is only one bath per cottage.

The restaurant is fresh and excellent. Service relaxed but everything you could want. We did a birthday here and everyone went the extra mile to make it successful.

A gas fire pit outside just competes the day.

It is exactly places like this one, why I love America. This place beauty is breathtaking. Far from everything else in an absolute serene area. It takes about 30 minutes to get to. Wake up in the morning just to sit outside and look at the view of the mountains and the river... Yep. Definitely on "DO COME BACK" list. The rooms are spacious and gorgeous. The wood work is very high end, the bathtub is luxurious, but not tacky. Nature at its best. The breakfast is good. and just consider if you do not have a car- the taxis going to the center are pricey.

My husband and I have travelled 4 times to Moab from Australia now, and each time we stay at Sorrell River Ranch.
The cabins are wonderful, the decor beautiful, and to wake to the river at your door is fantastic.
The people who run it are always friendly and helpful.
One cold night we were sitting outside by the fire when a staff member just bought us hot chocolates down in case we were cold. That was a wonderful gesture.
We'll keep coming back to Sorrell, and are looking forward to our grandchildren to be a bit older and take the whole family for a great time there.

This is our second time staying here. We just love the beautiful nature around the area and the lovely service. The staff attended all our needs and expectations. The breakfast was delicious and fresh. I recommend the pancakes. The only down part about the place, which didn't really bother me, is that it's about a 30-40 minute drive from the city center. If you don't care about the driving distance and want a romantic getaway to relax, then this is the place for you. Don't forget to ask them to light up the bonfire for you at night to make s'mores!

With some of the mixed reviews we weren't sure what to expect. We stayed in January which is the slow season so yes! some of the service was a bit slow! but who cares. This hotel is luxury at its best. We have stayed in 29$ night hotels and $2500 peer night castles in Scotland so we like all kinds of places. But this hotel was in a magical place, on one of the worlds iconic rivers, beautiful rooms and views from the room fantastic and very nice and warming people making you and your dog happy. I'd guess the current generation likes things now now now but true luxury is being able to simply relax. This is what sorrel was about. The drive into Moab is about 3o minutes, but it, itself, is one of the most magical drives you will have, nearly I making some of the parks unnecessary. Stop wining about how quick things come or don't come. You are in a magical place, far from anything bustly and that's the way it should be. The food, dinner twice, and breakfast twice, was excellent and while service was a little slow that is to be expected in the winter. The second night we had the restaurant to ourselves and it was wonderful. We hope to return in the early summer. The views of the Colorado are wonderful and when you sit on your porch the only thing you hear is the babbling of the river. Nice, eh.

Let me say first off that we went to Sorrel River in the middle of winter and during the holidays, so much of the review should be read in that light. It may be very different during the high season (spring, summer). Sorrel River has a beautiful isolated setting and is the closest you can get to a luxury place to stay in the area of Moab. That said, it is a bit overpriced and the staffing was woefully short, especially in the restaurant.

The hotel: The location is great for just hanging around and doing day hikes in and around Moab. The town of Moab is at a distance (about 25 minutes away by car), so stop there on the way to or from the National Parks to do the touristy things like shopping or barhopping. Sorrel River has large comfortable rooms and they are well appointed. Ones with Colorado River views are gorgeous, but the surrounding mesas and mountains are also enticing as well. I especially liked having the kitchenette in the room (we had a 2-level suite). Large beds and ample space in the suite make for nice family vacation living (we slept 5 in one suite), so it saves on having to spend on multiple rooms.

Dining: As I said, it was off season, so the resort was running on a skeleton staff, but even so, the dining service was painfully slow. It literally took an hour to receive a pancake breakfast. My daughter ordered some extra whipped cream for her pancakes. Big mistake. It took 45 minutes for them to bring it. They must have been milking the cow out back because that's the only way it could take that long. Dinner was even worse--forgotten drinks, painfully long waits between courses, and backups caused by large tables occupied by big families. The waiter was bit dense too about the long waits. He could have at least brought out some bread or something, since they do have the bread plates set out there. He acted annoyed, like we should have told him earlier that we wanted bread. Breakfast service was the exception. Nina was friendly understanding and accomodating; despite the slow kitchen she made us feel well-served. I feel like they were always making excuses because of the holidays, but they're still charging more than $400 per night and the food prices in the restaurant are still exorbitant, so really it shouldn't be a valid excuse. Note also, it is very cold in the main lodge during the winter; all the windows make it hard to keep warm and all the staff members wear their coats inside as well.

We'll definitely come back some spring or summer and see if Sorrel River provides a better experience then, but my takeaway was that you are paying a lot for the view. For a value traveler, Sorrel River is not the place to go.

Being as it was off season(and reading some of the reviews on this site), I really didn't know what to expect. Obviously they have gotten their act together. Their were quite a few people around and limited staff, but EVERYTHING was perfect. The property itself is unbelievably beautiful! The rooms, beds, towels, and robes all very comfortable.

The main lodge is also VERY nice. Zach couldn't have been more helpful. The restaurant is in the lodge and there is a huge deck that sits right next to the river. I'm sure it's a great place to be in warmer weather. We received excellent service from Tom. I thought the menu was limited, but Tom explained that this was the "off season" menu. It still had a nice variety. We ate twice in the restaurant and I had a fantastic chicken salad sandwich one night and lamb on my second visit. The lamb was served with pumpkin couscous and was EXCELLENT!

We had Thanksgiving dinner at the resort. Dinner was served in the upstairs restaurant. Apparently this is their fine dining restaurant and used only during their busy season and it was busy on Thanksgiving! I actually thought the restaurant downstairs was more cozy and Tom gave us the same service in both restaurants!! The Thanksgiving "spread" was simply phenomenal! Mashed potatoes, stuffing(the best I've ever had in a restaurant), turkey, green beans and roasted pumpkin all presented perfectly! Great pumpkin pie. Tom raved about Henry and his staff and shared his excitement that they would be there for another year.

I would highly recommend this resort!
