“Great overnighter at a Great price!!”
Reviewed 9 December 2006

We were a family of 5...including 3 teens. We stayed 2 nights in late August.
we had one double room with 2 large double beds plus a rollaway. There was a fridge, microwave, kettle & TV in the room.
This is a classic motel hotel but the room decorations were some of the nicest we saw on our trip. The room was clean & cool. Plenty of parking.
It is situated on the main street of Moab (as is just about everything!) & it is a busy road. our room was set back aways and traffic noise didn't seem to be a problem at night.
Although we didn't eat there , there is a nice cafe/resteraunt attatched to the motel.
There is a small pool which we didn't try as we went down the road to the water park which was great!!!
Overall a good place to stay for a couple of days whilst you visit Arches etc.

We stayed here last year (July 2005) and had a great 3 night stay. We were planning on camping in Arches N.P., but the campground was full. We stopped at Big Horn Lodge because it looked nice and it had a pool. Even for campers, we found the rate to be very reasonable and I think we were lucky to get any hotel room, as the whole town seemed very busy. Our room was great- very clean and nicely decorated. Actually, the inside and outside of the hotel were cleaned impecably, and I thought "This is a really nice place to stay for the price!" Also, between the girls at the desk and the girls who cleaned our room, the service was outstanding.
So we decided to go back this year and stay again. But sadly, we did not have a repeat experience. The whole place didn't quite seem as I remembered it. The room smelled like smoke for starters and was just not as neat and clean- no attention to the details. I called to the desk to make sure we had a non smoking room. She said she would send someone to clean it while we were out for the day, but when we came back it smelled just the same. Also, there was broken glass and trash on the ground outside and when I leaned over the wall to grab my bags my shirt got filthy. What happened? This hotel is not very nice when it's not very clean. I guess it's back to camping for us if we visit again.

My husband and I spent 3 nights in Moab in early September as we wanted to spend some time hiking the nearby Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. We chose the Big Horn Lodge as it looked like a pleasant place to stay and is conveniently located in the town - groceries, gas, restaurants are all close-by.

We chose a room on the 2nd floor as we've stayed in places before where it sounded like buffaloes roamed above us and didn't want that experience again! The room had everything we needed - a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, ironing board and iron, hair dryer, ceiling fan, a portable fan and an air conditioning unit. There were tinted windows with heavy curtains to keep out the very hot summer sun, but it was nice keeping the curtains open and still having our privacy. I'd read some of the other reviews on the Big Horn Lodge and noticed that someone said the room was too dark - we didn't find this to be the case. Also, some might be bothered by the air conditioning unit's location adjacent to the kitchen/dressing room area. It was a little funny trying to dry my hair with the aircon blowing on me so I simply turned off the aircon for the 10 minutes I dried my hair and used the fans in the room. It was no big deal, really!

Overall, the Big Horn Lodge was a perfect place for us. We had everything we needed close-by. The Moab Brewery was great for watching Monday Night Football (good food and drink). We bought our breakfast items at the grocery store down the street and ate our breakfast in the room each day before we headed out for a day each at Canyonlands and Arches. If you want a romantic dinner (it was our anniversary) drive east on highway 128 and eat at the Red Cliffs Lodge. Location, location, location! Exceptional scenery, food and service. We definitely plan on returning to the Big Horn Lodge in the near future and doing this all again!

It's not a bad motel for the money but the "non-smoking" room smelled like cigarettes and had obviously be smoked in regularly. Right outside the rooms is a half wall which separates the rooms from the parking lot. Sitting on top of the half wall are ash trays for anyone that wants to smoke right outside the room. This seems to be a very smoker-friendly motel. We stayed for three nights and overall it was not a bad deal but being non-smokers we would have prefered to not be subjected to the smell.

  • Liked — Price compared to others in the area
  • Disliked — Room smelled of smoke; initial room had broken lock and had to be given another
