“Consistent and Clean”

This hotel was the 5 star of Moab a long, long time ago but if you are looking for a bargain and a clean room with no "star" frills, this is the place to stay in Moab. Is it dated? Yes, but again, it is surprisingly adequate. We stayed two nights in the month of September 2012 and both nights there was no vacancy in the motel. Our reservation was made months prior to our visit and when we got there, we checked in like clockwork. All in all, a pleasant stay, with no frills but nevertheless clean and comfortable. And, we had an enjoyable time spending our savings on other things in Moab like restaurants, jet boat trips on the Colorado and visits to Dead Horse Point and Arches National Park. Give the Apache a try if you are not hooked on amenities.

We stayed here for our honeymoon 7 years ago, and have just returned from a 5 night stay for our wedding anniversary. We returned for sentimental reasons, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay again.
I totally accept some of the comments on here about a need for updating - yes, the rooms could probably do with a slight make-over, maybe new tvs and a lick of paint, and the pool area needs a bit of weeding!
However, don't let this put you off if you're looking for a clean, friendly, well-priced place to stay in Moab. The rooms were nice and clean (no smell at all), the pool itself was spotlessly clean and the absolute perfect temperature (we loved having a few hours to chill by the pool every afternoon after a long morning hike) and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. The breakfast offered is also fantastic (waffles so yummy!).
We will certainly return again when next visiting the area.

Even the chairs by the pool were broken, No landscaping and flower beds with weeds as tall as I am. Musty smelling little rooms that look like they have not been redone in 30 years! Spend $20 more and stay somewhere else. Never again for this couple!!!!

Room Tip: Just say NO!

Can't beat the price for what you get. Wee bit off the main drag so nice and quiet at night so you can get refreshed for more adventures that moab is a great base for. Very attentive staff who make u feel like an extended family.

Hotel rates in Moab are expensive, so this will not be a bargain in any city. Motel is several blocks off main street for quieter nights than most other motels though rooms face the street. Breakfast is bare bones cereal and pastry. They brag John Wayne stayed there and looks like they haven't renovated it since. Pool is small but OK.

This was great for a low priced motel, the Wi-Fi worked well enough to watch a John Wayne movie on netflix, and it was clean and spacious. We had a single king size bed and plenty of room. The A/C was so nice. Breakfast left little to be desired and the coffee was pretty bad but for the price this motel was sufficient.

First off, many hotels in Moab are way over-priced. We were there in the middle of July. I noticed lots of vacancy signs, so many hotels are not booked solid, and yet their prices are way too high for what you are getting. At those prices one would think they are paying for a stay in the Hilton.

Anyways, as for the Apache, their big claim to fame is that John Wayne stayed here, and my guess is that much of it still looks the same as when he stayed here. The hotel is okay, and reasonably clean, but overall the place needs work. The carpet in our room was in terrible shape -- in some places it felt like I was stepping on staples under the carpet.

The breakfast is not very good -- only carbs with waffles made out in the back somewhere and brought out to a table, and no juice. The wi-fi stopped working in the evening and wasn't reset until the morning. The people at the desk were pre-occupied with their children and took a while to come to the desk.

Now, this next comment could be interpreted as politically incorrect, but basically, the relatively low price tends to attract a certain clientele that is not necessarily nice to have around. We noticed a lot of smokers, with some even smoking in their rooms when the hotel is supposedly a non-smoking hotel. People lined up outside our window all smoking was annoying to say the least because the smoke gets drawn in to the room through the door and air conditioner. Management didn't seem to care.

I waffled between giving this hotel a poor or an average rating. I know that one goes to Moab not to sit in a hotel room but to enjoy the parks, which we did. It is basically a place to sleep, and for that purpose it is adequate. However, the hotel management needs to work at updating the place, making the breakfast a bit more balanced, and work at customer service. If we return to Moab, I will probably pay more for a better hotel.
