“Clean, friendly, price-friendly.”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

This is a very nice, clean and price-friendly motel. It is particularly nice for Moab and its high volume tourism - other motels in Moab have been very disappointing. All the basics were fine - a quiet and clean room, clean beds and bedding, and clean bathroom. If you want or expect more luxuries, there is lodging in Moab that charges an extra $100+ per night. For those who need a clean, quiet place to sack out while touring this beautiful region, this is hard to beat for around $100 or less per night.

Room Tip: Ask for a complimentary room upgrade.

We stayed at this inn to be close to the Arches National Park. It was a good location and Moab is a great town. This hotel has a pool which my kids enjoyed. The room was clean. The major issue we had was with the staff and management. We initially had some problem with a pull out sofa and we reported that a leg was broken. They said that they will not fix it. I was very surprised by this attitude. On our final night at this hotel (July 11), a fire alarm went off at about 2am. My husband went downstairs to see if this was a false alarm or real fire. What he found was a complete chaos. The young man who was in charge had no idea what to do, he had no safety instructions and gave no directions to all the hotel guests who were gathering outside. There was panic, people started to call 911, there was complete lack of leadership by hotel management. Finally after about 30 minutes, police arrived and checked the alarm and said it was false. By that time, we were all awake and got no sleep that night. The next morning, I addressed this issue with the hotel management, all they did was apologize for the situation, but did not seem to care enough to adequately compensate their guests for a sleepless night. I was very disappointed.

Good location in centre of town. We booked a long time in advance as Moab is always busy and were a little limited in our choice. Building is quite pleasant, staff polite if not overly friendly. Room was clean and of a good size but dated and a little worn. Towels etc had seen better days. Overall fine for a short stay and good value.

I don't generally seek to write negative reviews, but feel grossly misled by several overly-generous 4-and 5-star reviews which prompted us to go ahead and book River Canyon Lodge for a recent stay in Moab. This place is 2 stars on a good day.

The staff was indifferent, our room was not clean, we did not feel safe and avoided coming back to the room until we were absolutely dead on our feet and the town was closed. We wanted to relax and swim but the pool was through an alleyway, extremely uninviting looking and in need of a scrub-down itself, so we avoided it (in fact, we saw NO ONE in it at any time during our stay, while the other area hotels had plenty of pool activity.)

We decided to “chance” the perish ability of our food items by refilling our cooler with ice rather than using the mini-fridge in our room – it was that nasty (think visibly dirty communal office refrigerator.) We would have brought these issues up with staffers at the time of our stay, but literally ran out of the building once our keys (yes, keys) were turned in. I didn’t get the feeling it mattered anyway, as no one on staff asked or so much as made eye contact, either at check in nor at check out.

Incidentally, I continued to be amazed, amused and utterly perplexed at reviews expressing disappointment that this “hotel” doesn’t serve breakfast. While that is indeed a nice “perk” that some other hotel chains offer, I am absolutely grateful that River Canyon Lodge did not attempt this! For having the sense to NOT mix in food service with their questionable housekeeping and apathetic staff, I give them an extra star.

If you're looking for a hotel in a good location, there are PLENTY to choose from in the area. It's not as though River Canyon Lodge has a monopoly on Moab. Cut corners somewhere else and spend a few extra dollars, if necessary, to stay in another hotel. It will be worth the peace of mind and a good nights’ sleep.

Room Tip: Other hotels during our travels had zippered mattress covers in addition to actual sheets over them...

Thank you for pointing out that our hotel is located in Moab's fun downtown. Our pool area is spacious offering one of the biggest pool and hot tubs in downtown Moab. You can see it from our hotel pictures.
Unfortunately, we do not have any record that anyone complained about our housekeeping or guest serivce. Otherwise, we will definitely make it right for you. We enjoyed our stay at the River Canyon Lodge Inn and Suites. The staff were helpful, our children loved the pool (which has a nice shade tree), and the refrigerator was nice to have. Coffee is served 24 hours.

The staff at River Canyon Lodge was wonderful! The rooms were well equipped and clean. They even had a cute window seat with a great view. The hotel was a half block off the main thorough fare, but it was in the center of town and all of the action. I want to go back!

This hotel is just ok,nothing special,we stayed for 2 nights,it's in a quiet location off the main road so you get a good nights sleep with no traffic noise,we were greeted with a friendly smile and the receptionist was very helpful.
The room was large, clean, with fridge and microwave, beds were comfy but the bed linen needs to be updated, the bathroom was a good size, there are no tea/coffee facility in the room ,tea/coffee are in the lobby, also there is no breakfast.
