Made the reservation well ahead of time on booking.com. The pictures looked very nice on the website. Was one of the cheaper Motel left. Still paid $144 for one night. The person checking Us in was very pleasant. We asked for a quiet top floor run. We got Room#326. It was one queen bed in a very small room some of the furniture had dings. The elevator on the way up smelled like someone had got sick in it. Our air conditioning unit was so loud we could not sleep and the pillows were horrible too. We had driven a good seven hours would never recommend this place. On our way out.. a couple from Texas asked us if we would ever stay there again we said no and they said they would not either. Sorry just being truthful

We stayed at River Canyon or two nights during our visit to The Arches. Staff was somewhat helpful but offerings were very limited. No breakfast but coffee provided in morning. Very little else. No glasses in room just plastic. Air conditioning is very noisey but luckily during the evening it cools off enough and we could open the window and turn off the air conditioning.

We were pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the hotel during our stay. Positive points: warm welcome on arrival, pleasant lobby, great pool and hotpool with trees and shade plus tables and chairs and deckchairs. Also plenty of parking and very central to town. On the slightly negative side: the standard king room we had was very small. This is not a real problem when one spends most of the down in the great outdoors. However it was not easy stowing away suitcases and clothes etc. The room was nicely decorated and well equipped though. We would go back there on a future visit.

Our experience here was not so great for several reasons. Firstly the attitude of the reception staff was unprofessional and unfriendly. There was an incident when we arrived which would take too long to explain, but the staff were at first indifferent and then downright rude. Looking back now over the other reviews now I can see this is a common theme.

Secondly, when we got to our room the air conditioning didn't work! And it was 39 degrees (102F) outside. I spent an awful night, at 2am I was huddled over a functioning air conditioner in the corridor sucking ice to try to cool down. The next morning we asked to be moved to another room but were told the hotel was fully booked. (You would think that there are people leaving every day and we could have been moved to one of those rooms, but apparently not.) Anyway the different (but still not very friendly) receptionist said she would get someone to fix it, and although I wasn't very confident it would happen, thank heavens someone did come and we were ok the second night. We had an upstairs room and once it wasn't boiling hot it was actually quite comfortable.

The good thing about this place is that it is off the main road and therefore relatively quiet. It is in a good location within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. I don't know how it compares price wise with other places in Moab but it's definitely not the place to go for exemplary service.

I would have given this a rating of 3.5 if possible. The room was a good size and so was the bathroom - the shower was great, nice and powerful. The location was OK and there was a laundrette close by which is always a bonus.
We arrived at 2.15pm after a long hot sticky drive, the temperature was about 37c (95 F) and we were keen to check in and cool down. The reception staff were neither friendly or helpful - the rooms weren't ready and wouldn't be until 3 pm. Unless they had a different room maid for every room this obviously wasn't true but they were not going to be flexible, we would have to come back at 3pm. When we did just that the reception area was crowded with people trying to check in and we had to wait some time before being allocated a room. We felt the staff could have used some initiative and tried to help the guests but that was probably the last thing they were willing to do. There was one helpful staff member at reception, Katie, and she was rushing around trying to help everyone. All the other staff, for the whole of our three day visit seemed very sullen and not willing to even share a friendly 'good morning'. No recognition for the fact that tourists are the lifeblood of the town and without them the town would not have jobs for any of them.
There were two notices on the reception counter, one stating that breakfast was not provided but they recommended you go to Pancake Haus at the other end of town. The other said that if you had any trouble with the free wifi service, phone this mobile number as the hotel staff couldn't help. That rang alarm bells - there was probably a problem with their wifi, and sure enough, it dropped out all the time and sometimes you couldn't connect for half an hour - without a doubt the worst wifi we have experienced in the US, which normally has brilliant wifi.
My recommendation is to try somewhere else, this is far from a happy establishment.
