“Mountain cabin exceptional value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2013

We spent four nights up in the mountains near Moab in two cabins owned by Morris' Last Resort - three nights in the Vista cabin and one night in the Sunset cabin. The Vista was incredible: beautifully built, fantastically equipped, stunning views and great value for money. If we ever go back to that area, we wouldn't consider any other options. The owners are very nice and accommodating, and deserve guests who truly appreciate superior quality.

We primarily chose Morris' Last Resort because it was one of the few places in town that does not charge an outrageous sum to stay there. Next in line was our ability to cook our own food. This place fit both requirements, and we were nervous staying at a place we had never seen or stayed at before in Moab. When we pulled up to Southwest cabin #2, it didn't look too impressive. In fact, if I had seen this place off the side of the road, I never would have stayed here judging a book by it's cover. Well, let me tell you. The inside of these homely-looking cabins definitely make up for the outside. The inside décor was decorated in a tasteful southwest theme, the bed was comfortable (not hard as a rock as most places are!) and everything was clean. A good thing was the kitchenette was fully stocked with dishes and pans. No need to bring your own dishes from home! Another plus was cabin#2 had it's own private fenced deck in the back. This was perfect to have because we had our dog with us. Not only that, my brother enjoyed sleeping out on the private deck beneath the stars. Also, the cabin came with a flat screen TV with HD programming. Definitely a plus! Cabin#2 also comes with a two burner cooktop, which is not shown in the photos. The only downside to this place is the website advertises grills and picnic tables. Cabin #2 does not have a grill or picnic table. It is located on the grounds of the cabin next door, and we didn't want to go intrude on that piece of property to grill our burgers. Also, the photos for the Southwest cabins show a fridge with a freezer compartment. Our cabin did not have that. It was only a fridge, so we could not refreeze our ice packs for our cooler we took with us to Arches for lunch every day. Also, some reviewers complained of the highway noise from these cabins. It is true, you will hear semi trucks all night long, but what place in Moab is not off the main highway? We found if we kept the AC or fan running, in drowned out most of the highway noise. We will definitely be coming back to Morris' Last Resort because this place met most of our needs quite well, and it is more "affordable" for Moab.

We enjoyed staying in Cabin #6. It was very clean and nicely equipped. The bed was comfortable and the view of the mountains was great! It is a nice location for Canyonlands and Arches. There is still a bit of road noise, even in the back, but it didn't bother us. It is nice that the cabins are separated as we didn't hear our neighbors at all.

Room Tip: Cabins 4-6 are in the back and away from the road.

Me and 3 other guys visited Moab and the area for a week, spent 6 nights in Pioneer I. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and plan to use it again if we travel to Moab again. Would be nice if a flat screen TV was on the wall in the kitchen/living area. Being upstairs didn't work well for us. A fabulous view off the front porch. Kitchen was well equipped. Great location if you want to be away from town which we did.

Hi,

Our family, myself, wife, kid and 2 dogs has stayed at the Morris Cabins 5 times over the past 4 years in the Sunrise and the Pioneers I and II cabins. The Pioneers are a bit of a drive from town but it’s a nice pretty drive anyways but as mentioned up in the mountain cabins there is a ton of open space to explore and to do and lots of hiking biking and ATV riding! The owners are really cool and way nice to work with, they have worked with us and even drove us up other supplies that we needed! The only minor gripe for me is that I do wish is that they would allow pets in the Vista and Sunset cabins, so we are not so limited on availability to stay there just because of our dogs, we will not travel without them and one other minor thing is they need to update the TV’s to flat panels in the Mtn. Cabins but then again I understand that they may need a couple of cabins without dogs for people that have allergies, etc. and they TV thing is because we bring a PS3 with us to watch movies, games, etc. for the evening hours and for the kid. We are planning a trip there next month at the Sunrise hopefully! We just can’t wait to get down to the cabin, relax and play in Moab!

I don't feel like the facilities warrant the price. Stayed in Pioneer II with 5 others . This cabin supposedly sleeps 6. But this would entail two sleeping on futon(s) for which there was no bedding. You also should be aware that the only heat this cabin has is space heaters which don;t really cut it. It was 30 degrees outside on our arrival and not much warmer inside. Very strange that a cabin this size in the mountains doesn't have a fireplace. Other than that, it was clean and OK and the views from the deck and front porch were terrific.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent stay. We are disappointed to hear that it was less than stellar. As owners who live in Moab, we are almost always available to address any issue that comes up - we wished you would have called, at any hour. The cabin does sleep 6 guests easily with a king bed, a queen bed and 2 futons. The futon sheets are handily located near the futon in the loft (in a drawer, so as to stay clean). The 1000 square foot cabin has 4 space heaters, which are normally sufficient even with our cold Utah winters. We are sorry that the cabin did not feel warm enough upon arrival. Being that we did not build the cabin, we agree a fireplace would be a nice addition in the future.
As far as the pricing goes, our 2 bedroom log cabin in Moab for 6 guests equipped with a full kitchen, washer/ dryer, wi-fi, satellite TV and unmatched mountain and valley views is fairly priced at $209/nt + tax, plus a nominal cleaning fee of $40. So, it is difficult to understand that a 3 night stay for 1 guest could be considered pricey at a nightly rate less than $41.
Thanks again for your feedback. We hope you will give us another try soon!

2 friends and I decided to take a week long trip to Canyonland and Arches mid April. We ended up staying in the cabin for 5 nights. We were supposed to camp Mon night in Canyonland but it started snowing and raining so we left the tent and ended up in the cabin instead! I had emailed Beth to see if we could check in a day early and she responded promptly and told us the cabin was available. We stayed in and cooked dinner most nights (nothing elaborate, as the stove only had 2 electric burners and one was not leveled). We didn't get to enjoy the deck much (cabin#6) as we watched sunsets in the Park (Delicate Arch, Windows, and Garden of Eden). It was very quiet as I had opted to spend the extra $20 and get the cabin in the back and not next to the road. The futon was not comfortable so my friend just pulled the mattress off the frame and slept on the floor. That was perfectly fine. My friend Traci and I slept on the Double bed, each in our new down sleeping bags, and it was just fine. The hot water in the shower did run out one night as all 3 of us decided to shower after a long hike. It was bad, I just cut my shower short. The heater was loud but it worked well. We barely turned on the TV (and did notice it was direct TV) but most night we were out between 5-10pm for sunsets and taking night photos. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Cabin 1-3 are next to the road and 4-6 are in the back. I'd pay extra to be in the back. We had...

Thank you for the nice review. We are pleased to hear that you had a great stay at a SW Creekside Cabin at our valley property! We were glad we had the extra night for you to add onto your stay, since the weather was blustery and cold. The cabins are a perfect fit for two guests. With additional guests, the water heater needs a bit more time to recharge. (There is a note on the refrigerator in reference to the water heater issue). The Southwest Cabins are the least expensive option, yet the SW Creekside Cabins are still budget-minded and the quieter option.
Even though there is a small back deck to enjoy the sunrises and sunsets, our guests are often out enjoying them from a more incredible vantage point, as you did. It sounds like you made the most of your stay in Moab and we hope you will come back to see us.
