This is a great place to stay and was quiet! We stayed in a king room with a kitchen. There was plenty of room, and the bed was comfortable. The kitchen was sufficient to prepare our meals. We parked in front of our door. The location was good for several day trips in the area.

We simply loved our stay! The room was clean as a wistle. The beds were so comfortable that it was hard to get up in the morning. The hosts, Pam and Tim were great, and wanted to serve their guests. We have attempted to keep our home, built in the '50's, true to the period, so staying at Island Acres was like being home. The beds were more comfotable than ours at home. The towels and sheets were so soft, I thought they had put my wife to work in the laundry.
The fifties flair, with the modern touches of microwave ovens, cable TV's, and free Wi-Fi service, make this the perfect place to rest and enjoy the Gunnison Valley.

We will be back!

Roger and Honey,

Thank you for your kind words. We have done extensive experimenting with how to top the beds. We do take more of a B&B approach to our beds than a traditional hotel treatment. Glad that you liked it!

I recall that you are big fans of the Gunnison Valley. We are looking forward to having you back at Island Acres and visiting the valley. You are great guests!

Thank you for your interest in Island Acres.

Pam

This would probably be an OK place to stay if you are going to stay for a week. For a night or two if you're traveling without a big cooler (motorcycles) it wasn't really convenient. It was clean but a bit run down. Towels were skimpy and old. Nice little porch but the chairs were way too low for the table so eating a meal outside was not pleasant. It was quiet and it's a nice spot but only if setting up for a few days. Gunnison is a nice jumping off spot for riding nice motorcycle roads.

Thank you so much for choosing the Island Acres. It was nice of you to take the time to write a review. We are always happy to fix any issues brought to our attention.

I am pleased that you appreciated the unique location of the property and found your unit to be clean. People tell us repeatedly that is extremely important to them. However, I'm sorry you were not entirely comfortable. We have an annual budget for the purchase quite a large number of good quality towels to replace those worn or damaged. Rather than the cheaper, commercial powder, we use a good quality liquid detergent and fabric softener as we like the loft and fragrance that it gives the towels. I am sorry that you found towels in your unit that you felt should have been removed from the inventory.

Most of the units do have Adirondack chairs paired with the outdoor table. People like those as the angle of the chair makes it more comfort for lounging. This makes it possible to sit for longer periods of time when reading or visiting. Guests like wide arms for their drinks or cups of coffee. Also, great for napping in the sunshine! I agree that these chairs are low for dining. We also keep a large supply of the more traditional outdoors chairs in the park area, which guests are welcome to use with tables. These additional chairs are not kept on the porches as it makes it too cluttered, and the preference by the units is the Adirondack.

I also agree that Gunnison is a delightful spot for motorcycle rides. We have many guests who come back year after year with their bikes. Should you decide to travel through here again, we hope you will choose us once more. We have owned this property for seven years and have been updating, remodeling and refurbishing the entire time. While an older property has its challenges, it also has its advantages. Our regulars are always delighted with the upgrades and improvements that they find from one visit to the next and appreciate that Island Acres continues to focus on offering the charm and comfort of the 1950’s.

Thanks Again!

A few years ago, a friend recommended Island Acres. Located in a grove of trees on an island in the Gunnison River, this vintage motel is a delightful place to stay in the Gunnison/Crested Butte area. The rooms are clean with comfortable beds. The kitchenettes are a great feature when travelling with my parents, who prefer cooking their own meals rather than dining out. We consider Island Acres our "vacation home" in the Gunnison country!

Read the reviews and really expected to love this place. Our beds were very comfortable, but the room was not very clean. There was no microwave and no hangers. People were allowed to grill right by the rooms so the smoke came in the windows. The walls are very thin so we could hear every conversation and movement next door. Went to sit under the shade trees and most of the benches and tables were broken and in need of repair. Maybe a few years ago it was a nice place, but things are run down now.

Dear Guest,

We have 17 units with kitchens, fourteen with full kitchens. It is true that in our three smallest units, which we advertise as kitchenettes, do have apartment-sized four burner stoves with ovens but do not have microwaves as there is limited counter space. We have made changes to our website to make that more clear.

We apologize that previous quests removed the hangers from your unit. We always keep a back stock of any such items in the front office and would of happily provided you with as many as you needed.

We have tried to encourage people to grill in the park instead of in front of their units. However, people find it more convenient to be close to their kitchens and own dining areas. People also enjoy the ‘front porch’ experience and engaging in conversations their neighbors. If others are close, especially if the windows are open, they will overhear these conversations. It sounds like you would have had a better experience had you had a different unit. Our website does provide a property map which shows the placement of the buildings on our 3.5 acres.

Our outdoor space is a feature that our guests find very enjoyable. We have 19 outdoor dining sets, approximately six picnic tables including one large group table, two wooden swings and hammocks, and three park benches by one of the fire pits. Our maintenance team regularly inspects and either repairs or replace any damage items.

In the last several years, we have replaced many items including all of the screen doors, mattresses, carpeting, bedding, linens, furnishings and curtains. We added many small features that our guests have requested to maximize the functionality of the units and to increase their comfort. We have also replaced many of the appliances and added microwaves to the larger kitchens. All of kitchens and kitchenettes had been entirely restocked with new dishes, pots and pans, wine glasses, etc.

We appreciate your feedback. As we are a small, family run business; our guests’ experience and comfort is our priority.

I really do like this place! DOG FRIENDLY for those of you looking. Pam makes every effort to accommodate you.

Stayed 5 nights, fully enjoyed the entire time. COMFY BEDS!!!, nice bedding, kitchens, WONDERFUL TOWELS!!!

The only 'bad' thing, is I wish it weren't quite so expensive....but YES, I'd stay there again and again!!! Try it, especially if you have a dog!!!

Our efficiency unit was absolutely spotless, and this lovely little motel in a quiet location is cooled by large shade trees and breezes from the Gunnison River. It's so nice to be able to bring our dog along and have large grassy areas for "walkies", as well as being a five minute drive from espressos at The Bean.
