The food at Anejo's was very good. My wife had a house margarita that was very good, too. We had trouble finding it partly because the sign almost blends into the front of the building. It's a small and very loud place but we loved the food.

While recently visiting Gunnison, CO, found this little gem of a Mexican restaurant. It's long and narrow, with a long bar and a few tables in the front, and a few more toward the rear. Apparently, locals (especially the college crowd) really like the margaritas at the bar, so go early (added bonus - happy hour beer prices). More importantly, though, the food is the real deal. I totally enjoyed the soft tacos with the delicious shredded beef. My wife loved the chile relleno made with a blackened chile pepper. I would confidently order anything there. And, of course, there's the homemade salsa and grease-less chips. Can't wait to go back there!!

We selected Anejo's based on the positive reviews found here and other places. Went for lunch after a 40 mile bike ride, so we were quite hungry for anything. They have "Lunch" menu included in their main menu, but it did not seem to be different in any way from the rest of the menu. Lunch prices were the same as the rest of the menu, generally in the $10 range for most selections.

Service was amateurish. There was only one other couple in the middle of the afternoon, so they were not the least bit busy, yet we had to ask to order, then find our own silver and napkins. We never got any drink refills (we were really thirsty) and never saw anyone after the food was brought to our tables.

On the positive side, the salsa is fresh and tasty. The chips served with the salsa were the super cheap, greasy kind found everywhere. There is very little selection for vegetarians. I had the shrimp tacos and my wife had the tostada with cheese enchilada. Both were quite unremarkable. The beans and rice were just like any other low-end Mexican restaurant, nothing special like others seemed to believe.

So it is hard for me to understand why all the great reviews. Maybe we had the second-string cook in the middle of the afternoon??

By far my favorite Mexican in the valley! Favorites: Camarones del Diablo, Chile Rellenos, homemade Jalapeño Poppers, Shrimp Tacos. Everything is good!

We were referred here by locals & met & chatted with locals while we were here. Though we do "Mexican" every Friday night ( have for 20 years) & as full timers traveling all over the country now, THIS is the BEST Mexican food we have ever had, even better than our " home" place. The 1800 Marg was fabulous, the food was made from scratch using FRESH ingredients, and the wait staff was very friendly. This is a family operation and their pride shows! With several other Mexican restaurants in town, and us here till Labor Day, you'd think we'd have to try a couple of others before settling back into our regular Friday night routine, but that is not the case here ...got a homerun on our 1st Fri night out in this town, and we'll be here every Friday night from now until Labor Day. Ceasar, the owner & chef, produced an extraordinary symphony of delicacies from south of the border, on a kitchen smaller than the kitchen back in our old home. BRAVO Ceasar, well done!
