“Perfect Hotel for Downtown Asheville, NC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2011

Conveniently located in the middle of the Asheville downtown scene. Walk to restaurants, to the drum circle and shopping.
Large and well appointed room with space enough for an easy chair and a 3 seater sofa.. Very comfortable king bed. Large bathroom with a jet tub but no separate shower stall.
The staff was very helpful and welcoming, including a free bottle of water and glass of champagne on arrival. Parking is free which is a huge benefit in a city center.
Chocolates on the pillows each night. Newspapers available free. Free internet was great.
Downside: our room was located on the allay where the trash dumpsters are stored and the waste removal folks come early and are very loud. High window but that was ok as the 'view' was of the allay and dumpsters. Also, no safe in the room which is a huge problem in these days of laptops and ipads.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the side of the hotel away from the garbage dumplter allay

My wife and I recently spent two nights at the Haywood Park Hotel. We stayed in one of the King suites. The room was enormous. There was a separate sitting area with a curtain that could be pulled to create two different areas in the room. The bathroom was very nice with a separate garden tub and shower with dual heads. The hotel is located right downtown within easy walking distance of several great restaurants. The historic trolley also stops at the front door of the hotel for easy transportation to other parts of the city. Don't miss the Chocolate Fetish shop located downstairs.

We did this trip without renting a car and the location was perfect with shops, restaurants, bars, and parks within easy walking distance. Breakfast was a 20 second stroll across the street. Large room and turn down service with luscious boxed chocolate truffles on our pillows. Loved the historic photos on the lobby walls of this contemporary styled hotel. We'll be back for a longer stay.

The location is the best in the town- walk right out into the action and all the great restaurants and shops. The hotel itself is dated and can be noisy at night since it is right on the street...
Do not recommend sleeping on the foldout couch...no covers were given and the mattress was paper thin. Get 2 queens instead...also, no breakfast is available unless you do roomservice...
Lots of room and a nice sitting area on each floor-

Have been staying at Haywood for YEARS...and watched it get dumpy-ish. However, while they are now attempting to upgrade (good for them!!!), the prices no longer match the quality. Front desk staff usually excellent to deal with; no issue with staffing. In May we had a smaller room (usually take a King Superior) instead of King Master. Carpeting still needs to go. They did get rid of TVs for new flat screen tvs which are too small for the rooms. For annual July BeleChere, which we have booked for years at the Haywood, the greed finally took over. From $220 (or 200) to $450 night rate for Fri/Sat was too much to take. Haywood needs to know they are no longer the only downtown player, with the beautiful Indigo 2 blocks away. 4 night long weekend at the Haywood versus the Indigo for BeleChere festival to be a savings of almost $300 to stay at Indigo, where the views are absolutely incredible. We understand all hotels jump the price during festival weekend, with the Indigo jumping $142 and Marriot Renaissance jumping about $55. But to jump a room $230 more is too much of a gouge. The location is sweet (but now so is Indigo), however in these times while most hotels are trying to be reasonable ( we don't mind paying top dollar), I didn't expect the Haywood to get absolutely so snooty.
Really people, I can stay midtown Manhatten next to Times Square, Central Park and close to the theater at Hilton for $269. For $450 night you have nothing exceptional to offer to warrant it.
We come thru downtown Asheville anywhere to 2-4 times a year. Have recommended Haywood to many friends. I believe we may have lost our fascination and loyalty due to the gouging of BeleChere prices.

We at the Haywood Park Hotel always strive to make our guests’ stay with us a memorable experience. From time to time, we find a review, like yours, on TripAdvisor, and feel we must respond.

Had you booked with us for Bele Chere weekend a few weeks ago, you would have found lower prices. However, unfortunately, you waited until the weekend before the event, and since we are practically sold out for that weekend (July 29-31), the prices have risen. If you look at other Downtown hotels’ rates for Bele Chere, you would find that their rates have increased as well.

We feel we distinguish ourselves from all the area properties. As you stated, we have an incredible location and our room suites range in size from 600 sf to 1,200 sf, far exceeding industry standards. Other amenities you have enjoyed in the past at the Haywood Park Hotel include sparkling wine upon check-in, complimentary valet parking, free Wi-Fi, nightly turn down service featuring fine chocolates from Chocolate Fetish, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and much more! Our staff offers true southern hospitality and we are family owned and operated.

You are pleased during your stays here, or you wouldn’t have wanted to come back to the Haywood Park Hotel for Bele Chere. That is why it is a bit befuddling that you would post a non-flattering review.

We hope you find accommodations, although the whole city seems to be booked, and that you enjoy yourself at Bele Chere.

We enjoyed our stay here. Nice rooms, lovely hotel. A bit short staffed and don't have ice machines. Have to ask to have ice brought to the room. nice small refrigerator and coffee maker but not much else. You are within walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants which is very nice.
