“A great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

This is a unique hotel as it is an old department store. While it does feel a bit dated, the value and service were excellent. The room was huge and very clean. We were provided breakfast vouchers when we checked in, and honestly I expected bagels and yogurt. Much to my pleasant surprise they offered made to order sandwiches, pancakes, and Starbucks coffee! Add that to free Valet parking, an amazing location downtown, and excellent service - and you have a place we will absolutely come back to.

My partner and I spent four wonderful nights in this luxury hotel located within walking distance to all the best restaurants, galleries and shops. Valet parking service is top-notch and friendly. Plus, parking is free. Hats off to Cory, Brian and John for their excellent service. The front desk staff is equally friendly and capable, especially Ed, who gave us a city map and marked all the restaurants we wanted to try, as well as one of his favorites. Our room on the second floor was huge, with a large marbled bathroom that featured two different areas for sinks/counters. The room was tastefully decorated and beds were very comfortable. Large flat screen t.v., refrigerator and turn-down service with delicious truffles each night. Any noise from street was muffled. Never heard the people next door, the walls are so thick. This is an old department store converted into a hotel in 1975, so it is very well built. Everything worth seeing within easy walking distance, including Early Girl for breakfast, gluten free Posana Cafe, and Chestnut, all great places to dine, with Posana and Chestnut being upscale restaurants. If you dine at Isa's in the hotel, eat inside so you won't be accosted by the local beggar. Early Girl does carry out, so if you want, you can dine in your room. Fabulous home-made food from local sources, just a few steps away from the front door of the hotel.

Room Tip: As for a room on the top floor for the view and for greater quiet.

This was our 4th year staying at Haywood Park, and it just keeps getting better. It's built in what used to be the Bon Marche department store (then Ivey's). Each of the 3 guest room floors only has about 10 rooms, and there is a huge common lobby on each floor where you and your friends can gather with a bottle of wine and stories of your day's adventures. The staff could not be friendlier. With each evening's turn-down service, they leave truffles on your pillows from their award-winning Chocolate Fetish candy factory and store in the downstairs lobby.

Being centrally located downtown, you can walk to everything Asheville has to offer except Grove Park Inn and the Biltmore House. I think the trolley service goes to both of those, but parking at each is easy (but EXPENSIVE at the Vanderbilts' place).

Driving is easy in Asheville, and HPH offers free self-park and valet service.

The only blemish on this year's trip was that the A/C went out on our third (or four) nights there. The kindly brought us a fan, cold bottled water and a bucket of ice, and they were very contrite about the entire evening.

Rooms 204 and 304 offer the best views of the city happening below and The Iron (adjacent to the Flatiron Building). Don't miss a trip to Sky Bar dangling off the side of the Flatiron's 7-9th floors. They have great martinis and sunsets over the Smoky Mountains.

Room Tip: Ask for an "iron view".

My wife and I have rarely stayed in a better hotel than the Haywood Park in Asheville. Huge room; great service; free valet parking; free breakfast; etc. etc., which makes the place a genuine bargain. And don't forget to try their restaurant (ISA's), which has a gourmet chef and some of the best food in this foodie city.

Room Tip: Very few rooms…only 33…and all are top notch….and humongous!!

My family and I had an exceptional experience while in downtown Asheville. This is a unique, historical hotel with huge rooms, extremely comfortable beds, incredibly spacious and equally huge bathrooms! My kids loved it. The rooms overlooking the street had no noise from the city below and dark out curtains. This hotel has a very European flair including a bidet in our bath with European glass doors and marble galore! The staff is phenomenal : dropped off a package to UPS, brought extra towels and linens at midnight plus washed and dried our towels from our "sliding rock" excursion. Ed is very knowledgable concerning the local restaurant scene and Brien is familiar with the local attractions. The breakfast was also delicious and quick with choices of a full breakfast or continental. We will be back here and I can hardly wait!

Room Tip: Splurge for the suite, it is incredible!

We love this hotel, and you can expect a spacious room with elegantly detailed bath, a city view and convenient parking. Request a larger suite, it is worth the money and enjoy an apartment sized hotel room with turndown service truffles that melt in your mouth and a generous breakfast voucher. The bygone era of a department store is the structure that originally occupied this space and you will see vestiges of that in the elevator and displays, they are unique and charming. The bell staff is exceptional and they deserve special mention as well as the housekeeping. It is clean and I do mean sparkling, a real joy in this artsy and much visited mountain town. Try the restaurant located off the lobby and you have all that is necessary for a wonderful escape.

Room Tip: Select a larger room and enjoy the incredible bathroom and marble details.

My family has stayed here three times. Not sure where to start with so much to say...

There is valet parking so no need to park on the street. The bell service is quite good. The front desk serves the adults Champaign at check in. The lobby is huge and the player piano is always going. There us a wall dedicated to Hollywood people who have stayed there, many while filming movies in the area. There is a concierge but we have never used them for anything.

The building used to be a department store so they have kept with that as a theme. The rooms are huge and bathrooms even bigger. Very clean and kept up well.

The location is right in the middle of downtown Asheville so you can probably walk to wherever you are going. There is a shop on the street right under the hotel that makes custom hand dipped chocolates. They are to die for!! It is called the Chocolate Fetish and the hotel leaves candies from there on your pillow each night during turn down service.

The only negative....there are no ice machines so you have to go to the front desk and request ice. But this is part of the hotels charm.

We will be back again!
