“Just Okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2011

We stayed two nights. The bed was comfortable and clean. The view was poor. (view of a roof top of the balcony below). The bathroom was just okay. The sink area was not well lit. The elevator was outside the door so there was some noise during the night. Maybe another room would have been better. As for the value, we would probably choose another hotel. The staff however was very good. The one problem that we had was delt with right away. Front desk people always greeted you.

Room Tip: Don't get a room that has a balcony below or near the elevator.

I chose to stay here because I was conducting business at UNC-Asheville and this hotel is reasonably close and I collect marriott points. I got great service from the front desk staff. My room had two full beds, so it was a fairly large room. In general the room was very clean. The beds were comfortable as were the pillows. It was appointed with all the amenities you can expect from a marriott. All the appliances were in good working order. The airconditioner worked very well. Actually, a little too well. It appeared to be an older unit so adjusting it to my preferred comfort level was a bit of a challenge. It wasn't overly loud though. The bathroom was a little dark owing to only having one light. Also, the drywall tape was beginning to peal in the bathroom most likely due to moisture. This was especially pronounced on the ceiling above the bathtub. Regardless, this is still a good choice for a hotel. The location for the hotel is good as it is near the interstate, but not so close that you can hear it. The fitness center is in good working order with all the equipment functional. I did not eat at this location, so I cannot rate the dining facilities. However, because it is a Courtyard breakfast is not included in the price. The business center is a bit awkward. It is located on a shelf beside the front desk. There are no chairs so you have to stand if you want to use their computers. The computers did work well and I was able to print items that I needed. All in all, I liked this hotel and felt that it wasn't a bad choice.

Staying at the Courtyard Asheville was pleasant and comfortable. The service was outstanding when needed. Jack Mild, the GM, and Chris Rule, the A.G.M, were personable and Marriott friendly. Rooms were very clean and all appliances worked. I stayed for 4 days at the hotel and would stay there again if I am ever again in the area.
Good job to the employees of Courtyard Asheville.

We only stayed over one night but were very pleased with the hotel. The pool and hottub looked very inviting although we didn't have time to enjoy them. The room was wonderful. We stayed in the King Suite which had the bedroom separate from the living room. There was a lot of space and the balcony was a nice feature as well. Although they were in the middle of a renovation to the yard below our balacony so there wasn't a lot of pretty things to look at but rather a mud pit. My three year old son found the mud pit interesting to look at so we didn't mind.

Room Tip: If you are getting the balcony ask what it overlooks and what view you will have.

Usually when my boyfriend and I visit Asheville, we stay at the SpringHill suites which is on the same road as the Courtyard. The Springhill has been a good option for us, but on our last visit, the Springhill was booked so I booked we booked the Courtyard. The lobby looks like it was recently re-done and there is a large seating area with TV's, a pool, hottub, etc... overall it is a very nice hotel for an average price. Our room was a different story - we were on the 3rd floor in a King room. The room itself was ok in terms of looks and layout - it was just the horrible moldy smell and the constant feeling that the room was "damp". I can only assume they have some sort of issue with a roof leak or something that is causing this effect. Even with the A/C running there was this feeling of humid air and dampness in the room. I noticed another review mentioning a musty smell...we arrived shortly after a major rain storm - so I am guessing it had some effect on the condition and smell. Definitely an issue they need to fix. This is also just a general complaint about the Courtyard chain.....no free breakfast. The SpringHill next door has a free breakfast every morning. While the Courtyard may offer more menu options, it is all charged seperately - but at least it gave us an excuse to check out some local restaurants for breakfast during the time we were there.

Thank you for staying with during your visit to Asheville. Please accept my apology for the "musty" smell you encountered in your sleeping room. Since your visit, we have had our roof looked at several times to investigate any leaks that we may have had. Some minor issues were discovered and fixed. I appreciate your kind remarks about the lobby and fact that you took the time to write a review. It would be our privilege to provide your overnight accommodations again while you are in Asheville.

All Courtyard Marriott hotels that we have stayed in on this trip have had one failing in my estimation. The new makeover was obviously planned by a man... Everything in the room is geared up for the convenience of the traveling business man, with a well equipped desk for computer access etc. Come on chaps...where is the mirror behind the desk to enable female guests to use the facility to apply their makeup and style their hair?

Also, walls were so paper thin that we could have had a conversation with the people in the next room. Apart from this, hotel was fine.

We stopped at this hotel on our way back from Myrtle Beach and enjoyed our stay. The rooms are inviting, clean and modern. There are several outlets which is nice, and some rooms have balconies. Beds were comfortable and sufficient. The pool was small but clean and warm. The restaurant had a nice little breakfast place with tv's at the booths. It's a little bit further than we anticipated from downtown Asheville but not a big deal with a car. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful!
