A must see when going to Asheville. Walking the gardens is a bit of a workout. The food was great and the tour was wonderful

We initially baulked a bit at the ticket price 59 dollars per person, though buying them at our hotel meant they were valid for 2 days. However we decided on reading reviews and as we are only here for a day that it was probably worth trying. We've spent 7 hours here and still didn't do everything. The house is really fantastic. We didn't get the audio tour as the free guide provides plenty of information and the room guides are happy to provide additional information. It was very busy but kept moving and you certainly didn't feel rushed or crushed. The indoor swimming pool is prob worth the ticket price alone, and certainly the views of the mountains from the loggia make a great picture. There is also a spectacular wrought iron lift.

The gardens are magnificent and if you can manage the walk to the lake do so, though you can stop by car on your way to the winery village. There is a free winery tour and wine tasting as part of your ticket and a mix of eclectic shops, with various tasting stops at both the house and the winery. We drove through the deer park and stopped at the carriage site on the way to the winery. The latter was the only bit that we felt was unimpressive.

We completed a long day with a really tasty meal at Cedric's (named after the family dog), whilst listening to live music. Your ticket allows you to exit the site and come back in the evening to the village to enjoy dinner. We missed the childrens farm and kitchen garden as we couldn't walk any further!

It has been a highlight of our tour to date and worth every cent, don't BG we put off by the price, there are few estates in the UK that can compete on size and range of facilities even with our list of stately homes.

The estate is one of a kind. The largest private residence in the UNited States and the grounds have been kept up to a very high level. Classic southern cuisine is available and the gift shops are stocked with every manner of item that you can think of. They do get a pretty penny for the meals and goodies but you feel that you are taken care of.

New audio self-guide program is wonderful and there is a version for the children. Food was excellent and staff was friendly and helpful throughout the estate.

Beautiful mansion. It takes a couple of hours to see it all. A lot of walking and climbing stairs but well worth it. The perfect end to our road trip with the group.
