Owner description: Thomas Wolfe's childhood home, immortalized in his 1929 novel, "Look Homeward Angel," is preserved intact as a lasting monument to one of the 20th century's most prominent writers. The house, originally operated as a boardinghouse by his mother, retains most of its original furnishings and is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Tours of the 29 room house are offered hourly. The adjacent visitor center and museum highlight Wolfe's life and major literary accomplishments.

Interesting museum/tour about intriguing American author and an excellent value at $5. The museum is neat/clean, well done with Wolfe artifacts, video and knowledgeable, friendly staff.
The tour of Thomas Wolfe's mother's boarding house provides fascinating insight into life and work of Mrs. Wolfe and family as they cared for up to 40 boarders. The hour tour contained Asheville history of the early 1900"s. This was my second visit and would recommend it to authors, readers and all history buffs. It is located downtown, easy walk to Grove Arcade and the Basilica.

Excellent experience for only $5. Walking tour of Wolfe's childhood home combined with education on Asheville, Tom Wolfe and his times. Follows with 20 minute film. Very good even if you have no interest in reading; excellent if you do. Note: located in town and on trolley tour route.

Beautiful historic house and outstanding tour. The visitor center is modern with a video presentation and museum and small gift shop. The fee was $5 for the tour. The house is right next door and the tour was full of fascinating history and fact about the life of Thomas Wolfe. You will want to read his works if you haven't already after visiting this Memorial to him.

This was the main reason for our stay in Asheville because our friends had raved about their earlier visit. Displays in the visitors hall include audios (from old fashioned telephone stations) of Wolfe's mother and siblings as well as furnishings from his various residences. Best of all, though, was the tour of his mother's Old Kentucky Home boarding house with a most knowledgeable guide: what a sense of early 20th century history!
