The Black Walnut is a beautifully refurbished home. The owners, Lori and Peter White really love being your hostesses. We stayed in the Ivy room, which was beautiful. The bed is so comfortable! Even though there is central air, there was a window unit in the room. I loved it! There was a tv too! Very comfortable with awesome food! There are no changes on food. You eat what is served. It is really good, but if you have food restrictions, you may need to call and talk with Lori. I could not get rid of the check at the bottom of this page for a fitness center. There is not one.

Room Tip: I liked being downstairs. It felt very private.

Beautiful accomodations run by people who know how. Our room was dog-friendly with cookies ready for the dog. It's old-style, southern charm. Breakfast was beyond what we needed but was done to perfection. Healthy, too. Location within walking distance of old downtown with many restaurants, galleries and shopping.

We travel a great deal and I would not recommend this Inn to any of my traveling friends. We found Innkeepers in flexible on all requests, and absolutely antithetical to a customer service oriented Compared to any high end Inn.

We fervently hope that the readers will see through the content of this review and understand this is not a valid complaint,or a reflection on our service, but rather a way for this guest to to bully us into altering our policy to suit them. We make every possible attempt to give potential guests realistic and current information that is very detailed and supported by accurate undoctored photos of each and every aspect of a guest room.We offer this both on-line as well as through any telephone contact made prior to a guests booking. We believe that it is a guests responsibility to shop for the right room , just as they do for the right inn.It is also their responsibilty prior to time of booking to alert us if there may be any impediment to their enjoyment of their stay so we may offer our experience to assist in guiding them to an appropriate room, just as you would regarding dietary restrictions. We do offer limited handicap accessibility as the inn was built over 112 years ago . Had this guest at any time indicated they had a need for a handicapped bath we would have explained the details of each guest room so they may make an educated decision about their room choice. At the time of arrival, they indicated that they had stayed with us before in 2009.At that time they took an aggressive and threatening attitude about the 3rd night of the stay. They said they would stay for 2 of the nights booked but would not be responsible for the third.I was told that if I charged them for that night ,they would, and I qoute "ruin you online, and if I wished to play hardball I would regret that decision".This was after we made attempts to offer moving them, or if they did not wish to move rooms for whatever reason, they would be allowed to use any bathroom in any unoccupied room available. This was unsatisfactory to them, and I told them they could leave now. They opted to stay for the 3 nights they were obligated to,and as opposed to allowing us to rebook the room they stayed to enjoy all the wonderful things we offer. To my dismay, I saw that very afternoon this negative review had already been posted.I believe this was an attempt to coerce me into making a deal to allow them to break the contract of the reservation and they would remove this review. We are relying on the integrity of the reader to distinguish the quality of our guest service and dismiss the allegations of a very manipulative man.

Could not have been more pleased with the B&B. Lori and Peter made us feel so at home. They were so helpful and knowledgeable about Asheville and all it's attractions. The entire staff couldn't have been more helpful or nice. We still miss the breakfasts that were served. We felt so pampered while there without anyone being intrusive. We also enjoyed meeting the other guests during the evening "tea time." All who stay there need to take out at least 10 minutes on the front porch to take in the surroundings. We are looking forward to a return trip sometime!

At the last minute we decided to visit Asheville for the first time as a stop over en route to Atlanta for a wedding. We searched TA and selected the Black Walnut B&B. We loved our stay in the unique and beautiful Dogwood room and found the entire B&B to be clean and tastefully decorated. Upon arrival, we walked to the nearby Nine Mile restaurant and had a delicious dinner. The menu provides many options such as "spicy heat" levels and meat/tofu options. The substitution of zucchini strips for pasta or rice was a welcome change with the mahi. After a comfortable night's sleep we were treated to one of the best breakfasts we have ever had. One knows it is good when you can't decide which of the coffee, homemade muffin, swiss cherry jam, frittata, fresh heirloom tomatoes or course ground grits were better. Peter & Lori were extremely friendly and accommodating. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed discussing cake decorating and travel stories with them. We visited the Folk Art Center on the way out of town and found some amazing locally made gifts for Christmas at very reasonable prices.

Room Tip: The website provides a nice description including photos of the rooms.
