Our first time to North Carolina. We were so pleased with the Black Walnut Bed & Breakfast Inn.

We travel extensively and by far this Inn is the best! From the owners ,rooms, breakfasts, and the other guests themselves, it has been a memorable experience. Loved Peter's wisdom and insight to the surrounding attractions and restaurants. Wonderful, upbeat host and hostess.

Room Tip: ask for a first floor room if steps are a problem

We enjoyed three days in September 2013 at The Black Walnut in Asheville's historic district. We chose it because it was a pet friendly Bed and Breakfast but it is people friendly as well. All was delightful and every detail carefully thought out - from the little basket of doggie supplies in our room to the charming teapots and napkin holders at breakfast. The front porch is a delightful place to relax and enjoy the company of other guests and our charming hosts, Peter and Lori.
Both breakfasts and afternoon appetizers were outstanding. Our beautifully appointed room in the Carriage House had its own patio, fireplace, and comfortable bedding that topped the Four Seasons Hotel !

My wife and I stayed at the Black Walnut on Aug.23rd and 24th. We had been to Asheville several times, staying at other B and B's and at the Biltmore hotel. We could not have been more pleased. The breakfasts are AMAZING, as are the afternoon appetizers. Peter and Lori are fantastic hosts, we feel as though they are close friends now. We attended the concert on the lawn at Biltmore and they even left yummy treats for us knowing we would be back late. Location, service, room were all A+. We look forward to returning to see them soon.

We arrived in Asheville on a Sunday evening with no reservation looking for a pet friendly room. Often it is difficult to find a nice B&B that is pet friendly. The carriage house was available. We could sit outside on our own private porch with our dog and make ourselves at home. The suite was handicap accessible and did not have a bathtub. The suite was spacious and lovely but pricey. The B&B is located in a quiet neighborhood and we slept very well in the plush bed. The 3-course breakfast was something to write home about--very rich and delicious. It would have been nice to have spent another night to truly enjoy the atmosphere in Asheville. Lori was especially helpful with questions we had and gave very honest and accurate opinions about nearby attractions.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying here in October of 2012. I have been meaning to write a review ever since as it was such a relaxing, romantic, charming place to stay for a weekend. Peter and Lori are incredibly friendly and helpful hosts and really are the cherry on top of staying here. They're very accessible if you need anything at all and love to chat with their guests. However, they're not overbearing in any way. Peter was helpful in making suggestions for dinner locations and even made reservations for those who needed it.

Their gorgeous and historic house is in a pretty residential area and the grounds are maintained meticulously. The downtown area and the Biltmore are just a brief car ride away. Before even walking in the front door we were impressed by the cozy porch and also the carved pumpkins lining the steps. The decor inside has a vintage feel while still feeling fresh, vibrant, and clean (as compared to many other b&bs we looked at that seemed more shabby than chic). The house is incredibly inviting!

We stayed in the Sunshine Room on the first floor and were pleased to find that it was just as beautiful and cozy in person as it looked online. Love the window seat! The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had all of the necessary ammeneties. Since our room was on the first floor and not far from the kitchen, I was able to hear some faint noises in the morning as breakfast was being prepared. However, the noises were minimal and not enough to wake you. Since I was already up, I personally thought it added to the charm!

The food here is simply beyond compare, which is saying a lot since my husband and I can be quite particular. We practically licked our plates clean both mornings after our very large and incredibly delicious 3 course breakfasts. The first morning it was a creme brulee french toast, if I remember correctly. Just amazing! Peter and Lori also provide a plentiful afternoon tea service which includes incredible homemade hors d'oeuvres and yummy baked goods as well as a nice wine selection. We were pleasantly surprised to find just how extensive the offerings were for tea service and it was a lovely way to relax before making plans for the evening. It was also a nice opportunity to socialize with some of the other guests and with the hosts. Don't miss it!

This is an exceptional establisment and I cannot reccomend it highly enough. My husband and I just booked a return visit to Asheville for this October and will of course be staying at The Black Walnut again as we cannot imagine anywhere that could be better in any way.
