I am torn between telling you this place was horrible so you don't book it and we will have a better chance of rebooking when we go back, or telling you the truth about how awesome the place really is. The cabin setting is amazing on a bend in Pigeon River. If you like fishing, mountain scenery or just hearing the relaxing sound of the river then you can't go wrong.
With an amazing setting though, I generally expect the cabin to be subpar or average at best - not this cabin. It appears to be brand new, very well crafted and very clean. Just check out the detailed woodwork when you get there. If you have a picky wife or girlfriend and are worried that you'll have to hear complaining about staying in a cabin or 'roughing it' - you won't have those worries here.
On a side note the owner lives on the property. He and his wife came to check on us when we first got there. They were very friendly, down to Earth and just coming by to see if we needed anything but were not nosy or bothersome in any way. They even went the extra mile and put up a baby gate for us to help protect our 18 month old. When you are at the cabin though no one can see or hear you and you can't see or hear them. You'll think you're one hundred miles from anyone as you as you sit next to the fire pit, grilling out and listening to the river.
Do yourself a favor and book this as soon as you can if it is open on the dates of your trip, otherwise someone else is going to snatch it up and you'll really be missing out.
Everything was just great during our stay there. The workmanship and thought that went into building the cabin are just one of the reasons it is special....the location, the amenities, and the owners each contribute something extra. We stayed here for a week with our grown son and his wife....hard to say who enjoyed it more.
My wife and I were totally thrilled with our stay at Jack and Christy's wonderful cabin. The location by the river was fantastic for our "get-away-from everything" break from the world - secluded, surrounded by nature, and beyond comfortable. The soothing sound of the river was the perfect background to our morning coffee and evening wine, and we had the time, peace, and the right location we needed to re-focus ourselves on the important things in our life. Jack and Christy were outstanding hosts, going the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We came away from our stay restored, refreshed, and ready to return in the future. A very unique and special place, highly recommended!
We had such a great time about this cabin, even in the rain! Jack and Christy thought of everything to make this cabin a perfect and relaxing spot. They even had cold beverages waiting for us when we arrived and a basketful of goodies for our kids in case the rain kept us indoors. The kids had a great time fishing in the backyard and watching the cows roam around the property. We would definitely recommend this property for a perfect relaxing getaway and certainly hope to be back. Thanks Jack and Christy! A much needed vacation before the school year starts.
My partner and I drove from Kansas to North Carolina to stay in the cabin and it was well worth it.
Jack and Christy have set it up beautifully. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the serenity. We visited Asheville most of the time we were there with a short drive and walked along the creek and a nature/waterfall trail not far away.
We had everything we needed and had a great time.
Cottage's location tucked away in a river valley surrounded by forest provides privacy and the continuous sounds of nature made us quickly forget the noisy, everyday city environment where we live. Cottage's recent completion ensures high quality, newer furnishings, amenities and appliances. Upper deck became our favorite spot for morning coffee (with a visit by deer and doe) and evening wine under a full moon, both overlooking the river and its continuous rippling sounds. Trout fishing is fun for both the experienced or novice angler. Your proximity to I-40 gets you to Biltmore and Asheville restaurant district in 30 minutes, and Cherokee, Cashiers or Highlands in one hour. Will go again!
