We have watched this gem evolve into a special place to visit. Walking this lovely Bent Creek area seeing all the amazing rock work along with gorgeous four Season interest landscaping is a wonderful way to spend a day. The Bonsai garden is so impressive that it makes you want to learn and start one for yourself.
Lots of plants are labeled and there are always exhibits to see along with a gift shop to satisfy your need for books, pottery or just a souvenir.

There are so many things to do at the Arboretum, and your only cost is the price of admission ($8 per car and free the first Tuesday of every month) that you can spend a whole day here hiking, visiting the gardens, biking, and looking at the exhibits. There's a seasonal cafe on site for light lunches. One of the very special places is the outdoor bonsai exhibit. Not only is it a beautiful exhibit place but also the bonsai are amazing and varied.

The NC Arboretum is a great place to spend the day. There are great hiking trails that explore different aspects of the outdoors in North Carolina. You can also bike on many roads within the arboretum. The exhibits are interesting and beautiful. While there we saw the lego exhibits that included manifestations of lily pads with a frog, a bird and best of all an intense looking fox following a rabbit. Had lunch in the café, which has great sandwiches and soups. The views from the large windows were of the forest. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and would say that this is one of the hidden gems of Asheville.

The Arboretum is a beautiful place to visit, no matter the time of year. The gardens are beautiful in the spring and summer, the visitors center always has neat exhibits and a gift shop, there is a flatish trail to run which is hard to come by in Asheville, and it is a gorgeous place just to stroll around and absorb some knowledge about nature.

My wife and I have been visiting the NC Arboretum for many years. It is a place to view all the flora that Asheville has to offer. We especially like the Bonsai exhibit that is on permanent display. The orchid show there is always spectacular, as well.

There are always interesting exhibits at the Baker center, including one my wife likes quite well is the watercolor exhibit that Ann Vaselik displays. Ann is the premier watercolorist in North Carolina and the United States. We are proud to own one of her watercolor paintings.

There is always good food at the café, and the demonstrations involving various woods and plants are always informative. A bamboo exhibit held there a couple of years ago prompted us to take a bamboo "class" with the person who demonstrated the uses of bamboo.
