“Good location but insanely too loud”
Reviewed 11 October 2011

So I read the reviews on this motel and thought people were just being too hard on the place. I mean its a cheap room in downtown. How bad can it be? So I gave it a shot.
It is just that terrible.
The rooms are old and musty but I could forgive that if it was only that. We had a room on the "front" which apparently means you can hear all the traffic on the road. It was so loud with traffic I got no sleep. I, in fact, wrote this review at 3 am on the night I stayed there. It is loud, not only with car traffic (semis, loud car stereos, motorcycles etc.) but with people leaving the bars drunk and loud. There is also an occasional train you get to hear.
If you really want to stay here you should plan on being one of those drunk people leaving the bars. This is a great place to stay after a bar crawl. There are many bars within close walking distance. If that is not in your plans, avoid this motel. I would gladly have paid a little more to not be awake right now at 3 am.
This is a hotel that is very close to downtown and the bar area and the staff seems nice. Other than that, you will do better not staying at this hotel if you want a place where you can actually sleep.

Room Tip: The rooms on the back side of the hotel are probably quieter.

This is probably the best value hotel I have ever stayed in (paid $70 a night midweek - make sure you check the hotel website as well as the likes of Expedia for prices as they vary greatly). It is slap bang in the middle of downtown and you can walk to numerous bars and restaurants (recommend Thirsty Monk, Packs Tavern, Lab, Lobster Trap and Kack of the Wood). It is also within 40 mins driving of the Great Smokey Mountains which are a must.

The hotel itself whilst a bit dated and rough around the edges is immaculately clean with ample sized bathrooms. Some other trip advisor contributors have commented on the noise but I had no problem with it (though maybe that was helped by the beer). Breakfast whilst not expansive, did the job (and if you get a good deal on the hotel you can always forgo breakfast and go elsewhere) They must know their clientele as breakfast was available until noon which is very convenient.

All in all a great hotel if you can go without the wee luxuries. Glad I didn't spend more $'s on any of the other downtown hotels.

Finally, it's just across the road from a spa called " Dragonfly" where I had possibly the best pedicure ever!

This morning i was called in my room by my bandmate who was downstairs with the police. He is a black man in his mid 20's. The owner had accused him of stealing the complimentary coffee and despite being told that he was a guest by his concierge called the police. In protest the concierge promptly quit and the cops couldn't believe that they had been called. We were given our rooms for free but it does not excuse this type of profiling.

Superb location for downtown, Biltmore, Visitor centre and motorway access. Very basic hotel, rooms spotlessly clean with staff displaying attitude, professionalism and friendliness as good as and in most cases better than any we encountered in the hotels and B&b we stayed on our three week trip in california and carolina.(no reflection on other premises, its just that these staff were so good) The very inexpensive price for a downtown hotel reflects the fact that the rooms have practically no insulation from traffic noise and use cheap pillows and dated furnishings. If these issues were resolved it would remove from the marketplace an essential ingredient in the spectrum of accommodation available to people looking for budget hotels in good locations. I would recommend this hotel to people so long as they recognise and accept its niche and would not myself hesitate to stay again though my wife would prefer a * or so higher.

Room Tip: Rooms at back are much quieter

I've stayed here twice now and almost hate to give a favorable review for fear of this place becoming too popular. The location is fantastic for those of us who like to sample the local brews and superb restaurants downtown. No, this is not the Ritz, but it is clean, has internet service, great customer service, breakfast in the morning and allows pets. All at a reasonable price. I don't ask for anything more.

Looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Downtown Asheville I came accross the Downtown Inn. At first look it might seem kind of dumpy but upon arrival I was pleasently surprised with the friendliness of the staff.

The room was clean and looked out to the street where hours could be spent people watching. Parking was also provided and the rate was $80.00/night. While checking in the clerk mentioned that there would be a complimentary breakfast, first thing that came to my mind was cold cereal. To my surprise when I went downstairs to breakfast they provided a full spread of cereal, juice, muffins, fruit., coffee, tea, yogurt and more.

Probably the best thing about the Downtown Inn is it's location. For the two day, one night I was there I didn't need to drive anywhere. Everything you could need is within walking distance making the Downtown Inn the perfect place to stay in downtown Asheville.

Room Tip: The wireless internet was kind of flaky, make sure you have alternate means of a connection
