“excellent value in Asheville, NC”

We have stayed at Asheville Hostel and Guest House twice now, and found it to be an excellent alternative to high priced hotels in this popular destination city.
The hostel is spread across two historic bungalows, WALKING DISTANCE TO DOWNTOWN Asheville's restaurants, pubs, and parks. The rooms are large, colorful, some with closets, comfortable beds, and all of the essentials.
The bathrooms are clean and large, and there are plenty of bathrooms to accommodate guests. I think there are only private rooms here, which contributes to the quiet, easy going vibe.
We love having a kitchen available when we travel and the kitchens at the hostel are clean, with ample space for everyone's food, and a full complement of cooking utensils, plates, cups ect...
The rooms are so inexpensive that parents with kids traveling together can just get two rooms! There are also rooms with a queen bed and one or two twins so it is definitely a family friendly hostel.
The owner is a really nice guy, communication was easy, and he and his staff are very helpful but not intrusive.
We highly recommend this hostel!

Room Tip: We stayed in a total of three rooms during the two nights we were here, and all of them were very ni...

My boyfriend and I were looking for an affordable place to stay in Asheville for one night, just to attend a concert and drive back the next day. Neither have us had been to the city before, so we had no idea what to expect. The hostel was SO MUCH MORE than anything we could have expected for that price. It is a beautiful, ivy covered, two-story house with parking right outside, and is located at walking distance from everywhere you could think to go. My bf and I stayed in a room on the second floor - it was roomy, really clean, equipped with a comfortable bed and a wonderful view of the neighborhood outside. The two shared bathrooms were perfectly clean, as is the communal kitchen (yep, you can prepare and store your own food here!). As other people have mentioned, BJ was an awesome host: he gave us a map and pointed out all kinds of places to go to and events that were happening around town which we'd never have known to find by ourselves. We were completely thrilled. When we go back to Asheville - and we will, because it's such a fantastic place - we will never stay anywhere else. It is so cheap but so much more aesthetically pleasing and well-served than hotels generally are.

The hostel is in an awesome location - super easy to walk anywhere, we didn’t need our car to explore at all! BJ was very friendly and provided us with a detailed map and directions to just about everything that we would need. The hostel has a few rooms so sharing the bathroom was never an issue. Everything was really clean and felt very safe. The hostel has a large kitchen and computers, which we never had to use, but would be a great add if you need them. Overall, it was a great place to crash after exploring all that Asheville had to offer!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the "bungalow" in the back of the hostel in March 2012-- complete with full size bed, small bathroom, kitchenette. Although quite small, it was the perfect home base for us to explore Asheville and the surrounding areas. The bed was comfy and we slept like rocks. Pleasant staff, affordable pricing. Easy parking right next to the bungalow. Easy walk to everything downtown Asheville had to offer. Great suggestions to places to see from our hostel host. Everything we could ask for in our visit. Can't wait to come back to Asheville and the bungalow again!

Room Tip: Bungalow for couples!

This was a great location - once I arrived in Asheville, I parked my car and didn't move it again until I left. It's an older house, but everything was very clean and comfortable. It was perfect to stumble back to late night and was just what I needed it to be for this trip. I would recommend it to anyone and will stay there again.

My friend and I stayed three nights at this hostel, and it was our first hostel experience. At first, we were skeptical, but it turned out to be a very clean, and safe environment. We stayed in a two person/queen bed room in building 28. It was a little small, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable, but aside from that, it suited our needs. However, there was only one bathroom in this building, but we didn't have problems sharing with the other visitors. We will definitely consider Asheville Hostel & Guest House again.

What a nice night in groovy downtown Asheville. We could walk everywhere. BJ gave a great tour of the city and map for the local in the know places, and we walked to the orange peel 3 blocks away and didn't have to drive late night. Great bed, clean, comfortable. Walls were a little thin for adult fun.
