Burritos are about 80 percent of the menu at The Lucky Otter -- but these are neither typical nor ordinary burritos; most, in fact, are not of the Mexican variety. Instead, this small, inviting local spot in West Asheville specializes in wraps with clever names and fresh, delicious ingredients. "Zorba the Greek," for example, is like a Greek salad in a spinach wrap with a tangy tzatziki sauce that gives it zing. Or you can try the "Thai Me Up," "White Trash BBQ," or "Don't be a Jerk." For vegetarians, you can substitute tofu in just about every menu item. House-made corn chips (great) and southwest slaw (mediocre) come with the wraps. There are also salads, quesadillas, and nachos, plus a good selection of beer and wine.
The Lucky Otter is nothing fancy: You order at the counter, but there is table service. A cute touch: silly toys are handed out instead of table numbers so the wait staff knows where to bring the food. The restaurant is small, with several wooden tables indoors and limited outdoor seating. Open for lunch and dinner, it was a hopping place even on a weekday night.
