Bear Creek RV Park & Campground
Reviewed 23 October 2012

Stayed here for 5 nights while visiting Asheville. Have a 38' motor home plus tow vehicle.

This campground is very chopped up with sites crammed in everywhere possible. I think the campground gets mixed reviews because the experience can vary depending on what site you're assigned (beautiful view sites up above office), to the very tight lower level, to the worst location... the pull-thrus. We were assigned a lower level site. To get there, you must navigate through the pull through driveway of a private home located at the campground. When we visited, there were cars parked in that driveway and it was VERY TIGHT. Once situated in our site, things were fine. We had very friendly neighbors and enough room to "spread out". Most sites appeared relatively level (although ours was not).

On the plus side... The location is right off the interstate which makes it very convenient. We didn't have any problem with traffic noise. Everything is kept very tidy. The baths are older, but clean and adequate. There was a nice clubhouse (which we didn't use) and a pool that was closed for the season. There was a very good selection of cable television channels. Each site has a picnic table.

The negatives... the wi-fi was slow and intermittent. We travel with our Verizon jetpack and used that instead. We were checked in by a very friendly young gal but found the older "gentleman" in the office to be rude and unhelpful. The price was a little high for the level of amenities, but there isn't much competition and October in Asheville is one of their peak tourist times.

Walking distance from NC Farmers market and the French Broad river, one exit away from Biltmore village and Estate. All this convienence comes with some traffic noise. Most of the negative reviews came from the elderly owner who was a little cantankerous. The property is under new management who are all "friendly" and helpful. All in all more positives than negatives.

We just spent a week at Bear Creek (our third visit) and plan on almost three months next year. We are forty feet long with three slides, the driver's side running the full length and we had more than enough space with the site being very level. The entire place is spotless, the staff wonderful, the swimming pool more than adequate, every cable channel imaginable, great WiFI and lots of grassy areas for the four legged friends. Yes, there is some noise from the interstate but nothing you cannot get used to and yes there are no fire pits because the city does not allow them which I found rather refreshing after traveling for three months and having smoke blow in the coach at so many stops. I highly recommend Bear Creek.

We stayed for one week July, 2012 and found the campground to be very convenient to Asheville center. You don't need much when one has such a great city to explore. Take the trolley to familiarize yourself with the city, definately eat at Salsas around Pack Square! The owner of this campground was very friendly and the office staff was very helpful. The grounds are kept up very nicely, views are great and it's only 10 minutes from the city yet it's definately in the country. Great place!

We just camped at Bear Creek, and spent five lovely days in Ashevile. We had a wonderful spot, very level, with trees, and so enjoyed the camp site, and the people who run it. The bathrooms are very clean, as well as the showers. We enjoyed the swimming pool, and relaxed, and enjoyed the sites of Asheville. They do not charge $5.00 per person for swimming when you are a camper, that is only for guests of the campers. Yes, it is conveniently located next to the interstate, but I was never aware of the Interstate traffic. This is a great place to camp, and the people who run it are exceptionally nice, they go out of their way to help you.

The view here is beautiful! However, it is right near the highway and it is loud at night! The price is a bit higher than other campgrounds and they charged us $3 for every child--we have 4--so that was an extra $12--still cheaper than a hotel so we went ahead. In the brochure and online they advertise a swimming pool---what they don't advertise is the $5 charge per person to swim! Luckily we were just staying here while we visited some friends in the area so we didn't have to deal with unhappy kids because I was not about to pay $20 just for them to swim when I'm already paying more than I really wanted to in order to stay here! The facilities are clean and we really didn't deal with any people so can't comment there. Anyway, I'm sure there are other places to stay and next time we will probably stay somewhere else!

We picked this campground due to a great rating from Good Sam's well, we have stayed at many parks with lower ratings and were more impressed than this one. Very confused staff, tight, tight spaces, almost lost our tow bar backing in, had to back into hill to get in far enough. Very loud, surrounded by highways, an electric property on the site(same owner) narrow roads in and out. No groceries, bath lites set on timer a friend was in a stall and lites went out. No fire rings, laundries super small and by a grungy apartment bldg. on grounds. Never again.
