I almost didn't stay here based on a few negative reviews but I'm glad we did. The pool and grounds were great for our young children and the check in was quick even with our last minute requested change to or reservation. Great value and great service at the breakfast/buffet including a chef in the dining room to prepare waffles/omelets/eggs to order. The hotel has a lot of charm and yes it is older. We walked a ways to our rooms and to get ice. Very quiet and we got a great nights sleep even with a room facing the pool. We checked in for two nights on a Sunday. I'm sure this place hops on the weekend so maybe that explains some of the negative reviews? We love Asheville so we'll likely be back to this resort.

We would not have chosen this hotel having read the Trip Advisor reviews, but it was a Priceline purchase and, for us, it worked out fine. We arrived on a Sunday night in late August and the hotel was not busy. That was, I think, the key. We did not have any problem with noise though it was clear that had there been many people in residence, it would have been. Note, unlike most HVAC systems, this one does not have a "fan only" setting so that to mask noise, one has to use either the heat/cooling setting even if the room temperature is already comfortable. However, again this worked out o.k. We kept the air conditioning on at night. It is loud but no more so than most units; it did cycle off once or twice but my husband slept through it. People at the front desk (especially Dave) were very helpful; we had no problem getting the one small elevator. The hotel is located just off an exit ramp (and thus one needed to drive most everywhere), but the grounds are large with lots of facilities (tennis courts, outdoor pool, golf course) so that it feels like a mountain resort. The bed was excellent: firm with a soft pillow top. The room was spacious and attractive. The bathroom was small, but clean and functional. That said, my husband would not stay there again because it is not sprinkled (built prior to the codes) and some of the stairwell doors had had the positive latching removed (which means that in the event of a fire the hot gases could enter the stairway preventing exit from the building, a serious fire code violation).

Wasn't sure what to expect based on reviews. Check in went smoothly. Room was very nice and clean. Grounds were gorgeous and location was good for visiting Asheville. Hung out at the bar that night and the food was good and bartender very sociable.

My husband and I brought our Harley to Asheville to ride the parkway. I guess the staff at the front desk thought we were just biker trash. They were so rude. The lobby looks good but the rooms are old and way at the back. I love great hotels but this was not one. The bed was hard and the pool was closed at dark. The parking was good for our trailer but we moved after one night. I guess the front staff thourght we had never been in a good hotel before. Our Harley cost more than they will make all year!

The hotel itself is fine, and the room was comfortable. However, both nights we were there, the fire alarm went off at 1AM. Based on other reviews, this hotel has a serious problem with its alarm system and is doing little to correct it. When we complained to the desk, they were very nonchalant and refused a request for compensation of some sort.

Bugs, bugs, bugs (a beetle, a centipede, and a
ant) in our room! We put the beetle in an
envelope and took it to the front desk. No
apology, no remedy, no surprise. After we
found the other two bugs and we called the
front desk we got the same reaction.
Server at breakfast did his best to touch every
glass and mug rim during service. Bottom line,
we won't be back.

Don't waste your time with this hotel. Although my friend and I made the best of it, the overall experience was horrible.

- 10 minutes to check-in with only one person in front of us. The phone seemed more important to the front desk than the actual visitors. For every question I had, the front desk's response was like waiting for a turtle to cross the street, but not as cute.

-we booked a king size bed, but were told they were sold out.

-no assistance on what to do or where to go in Asheville.

-the elevator was extremely slow

-NO MANAGER ON DUTY!!!

-and when I realized I left my toothpaste at home, they had a nice little placard in the bathroom informing us that the front desk could provide us with what we needed. Upon our phone call to the front desk, we were informed that the toothpaste was locked and there was no key available until Monday.

(I made sure the next morning to give an extra breathy thank you!)
