“Lovely!”
Reviewed 6 July 2013 via mobile

Enjoying a wonderful weekend at the Albemarle Inn! My husband is not a fan of bed and breakfast inns but even he has been won over by Rosemary and her accommodating staff! If you are looking for charm and something out of the ordinary, stay here!!

A special weekend get-a-away was made even more memorable when we stayed here. We were able to get couple's massages in our room. We enjoyed having wine while chatting with the other guests each evening on the fabulous terrace overlooking the gardens. Our room was elegant and quite. We were so close to Grove Park Inn we could have walked there for dinner, however we took advantage of the free shuttle. We look forward to another stay very soon. This Inn is a pure joy to visit. We enjoyed this stay so much I featured it in my blog, FiftynotFrumpy.com.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Vanity Fair Room. It was elegant, quite and comfortable.

The Albemarle is a lovely B&B with a fantastic front porch. We met the innkeeper upon arrival who was very helpful - they keep a book of all the local restaurant menus and that was great for choosing where to dine. It's very quiet as it is located in a residential neighborhood. We enjoyed the house, the history and the location. Our only complaint was the breakfast service was extremely slow and the lack of choices was disappointing. One guest was gluten free and breakfast choices were......waffles. Upon checking in, the innkeeper asked about food allergies so I was surprised about the gluten free/waffle gaffe. We stayed 2 nights and breakfast service was painful both mornings.

Thank you so much for your nice review of our Inn! We are glad that you enjoyed your overall stay. It was a pleasure speaking with you during our Social Hour, especially discussing travels to Italy! We see that you noted that your breakfast service was very slow. We appologize for this. Since your stay over Memorial Day Weekend, which is the start of the Summer Season,(as well as the start of our new college student staff), we have implemented significant changes, staff training, and improvements to our breakfast service and staff. We are confident that breakfast service is now quite efficient. We are better prepared to serve our guests, even those that request an entirely different main course, other than what is the daily breakfast offering! When guests have alleriges, or specific dietary needs, we often discuss their menu options prior to their arrival. Many people are thrilled to know that we go to the trouble of making Gluten Free Baked Goods, especially for them! Therefore, when we serve something like Waffles or Pancakes, we also have the Glutenfree alternative of the same dish for guests. In this manner, they do not have to be singled out...and be served only eggs every day. Thank you again. We hope to see you again some day!

This was our first stay at Albemarle Inn and it was quite enjoyable. Host and hostess greeted us on arrival and gave us a brief tour and history of the inn. We were shown to our room, given all the information we needed for our one night stay and help in finding a restaurant in town. Everyone was extremely hospitable. Wine and cheese in the afternoon were most enjoyable, the room was very comfortable and the next morning breakfast was sumptuous and filling - no need for lunch that day. Whenever we return to Asheville, no question about where we'll stay - Albemarle Inn. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The Albemarle Inn is a peaceful, gracious, lovely place to stay. The location is perfect: close to everything, but set in lush gardens in a beautiful area. The Inn itself is an imposing and elegant building, with a gorgeous verandah overlooking the garden and with varied, attractively decorated rooms. The innkeepers and their staff could not be kinder or more welcoming: they are always ready to help with a suggestion for a great place to eat or unwind, to offer of a special drink or treat, or to accommodate special requests. Rosemary's breakfasts are three course delights: I won't soon forget her waffles with maple rum sauce or her homemade madeleines. Altogether I can't imagine a nicer place to stay while in Asheville, and I plan to return with friends and family in future.

Room Tip: Consult the photographs on the website: the rooms vary greatly, though all are attractive.

We had a wonderful stay at the Albemarle Inn. The house and gardens are just beautiful and located in a lovely neighborhood. The room was spacious and very charming. The breakfasts were so delicious and so big that we skipped lunch each day we were there. Best of all, Rosemary was very helpful offering restaurant and sightseeing suggestions.

We'd read about the Albemarle Inn on line and had even driven by it during a previous trip to Asheville. It was definitely on our list, and finally we had the opportunity to spend a couple of nights there. It's a beautiful, historic home in a nice setting, convenient to Downtown Asheville and area attractions. The owners made us feel at home yet respected our personal space. The breakfasts, furnishings and afternoon repast were on the level one expects from a "distinguished' inn. We enjoyed a glass of wine in the afternoon, which you know, if you've read another of my reviews, wasn't the case at a previous B&B in another town that considers itself in this same class (and charges higher rates). The coffee was good, readily available and brought to our table by an attentive waitress. The individual tables allowed us to interact with other guests only as much as we chose to do. (We always enjoy meeting other people at B&Bs. So we interacted a good bit.) It was exciting to stay in a house in which Bela Bartok lived while composing his Third Concerto for Piano, also known as the “Asheville Concerto.” We didn't stay in the same suite, but sitting on our balcony outside "Juliet's Chamber," we enjoyed listening to the songs of the birds descended from those who inspired him.
