“A step back in time”
Reviewed 13 August 2007

We began our 35th anniversary celebration with a night at the Cedar Crest Inn. The mansion was like a true step back in time. . . with fabulous food and gracious hosts. Bruce and Rita were a pleasure to meet, and our hope is to see them again one day!

If you and your spouse/partner are looking for a romantic getaway, then the Cedar Crest Inn is an absolute must. The Inn is conveniently located within walking distance of the magnificient Biltmore House in Asheville, N.C. Nestled on a hill, Cedar Crest Inn will transport you back to the 1890's with its Victorian decor and beautiful gardens. The mountains of North Carolina provide you with cool breezes at night to help you set the mood or just keep you cool for night.

The Innkeepers Rita and Bruce Wightman and their staff outdo themselves by providing delicious breakfasts and wonderful beverages and pastries during the afternoon. Many Bed and Breakfasts only supply breakfast, but at the Cedar Crest, no matter what time of day you walk in the door there are always refreshments and snacks awaiting you.

There is plenty to do and see in this beautiful town ,so if you are in the mood for a little bit of history or art , visit Asheville and make the Cedar Crest Inn your stay for a splendid trip.

Cedar Crest Victorian Inn is a great B&B right in the heart of Asheville, NC. We stayed in the serenity suite, nice privacy, great king bed, large very comfortable room. What made the visit worth every nickel was the accommodating staff and the hospitality of the owners. Awesome breakfasts and evening desserts. I'd go back, it's that simple.

We reserved the cottage for a three-gal trip to Asheville. The accommodations were very comfortable and allowed us the quiet and privacy to make the most of our brief time of catching up and seeing the sights of Asheville. Rita and Bruce were so helpful with restaurant suggestions and other travel hints! Nightly desserts were excellent and a real plus. Breakfast was just a bit of a problem, as each of us is used to simpler fare (yogurt, cereal, boiled eggs, toast, etc.), but the homemade granola won us over!

We recently spent the weekend at the Cedar Crest Victorian Inn in Asheville, NC. The inn is a gorgeous Victorian with woodwork that the Biltmore Estate would envy. The innkeepers, Bruce and Rita Wightman, made us feel welcome and special. They pride themselves on their attention to detail and our beautiful, period decorated room and our experience reflected that loving attention. Bruce cooks the sumptuous breakfasts, which are to die for, and the desserts they provide for the guests each evening are equally worth indulging in (leave your diets at home!!). We bought their cookbook just to get the recipe for the lemon pound cake and the peaches and cream French toast. Yum! Rita also gave us restaurant recommendations for each evening’s dinners and her suggestions were just perfect. We visit Asheville often and this weekend was our best time yet. Asheville has no shortage of many wonderful places to stay and eat, but be assured, we are already looking forward to our next stay at the Cedar Crest Inn.

We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Cedar Crest Inn. Service was excellent, the house is an amazing historic Victorian charmer. It really could be a mueseum.

The rooms were very nicely decorated and comfortable. We wer e able to see many of the other rooms in the house because the guests had not checked in. They all looked great. We stayed in the Garden Room and the Serenity Suite. Our rooms did have a TV, but in the Garden room it was too small and poorly positioned to actually watch from bed. This was not a big deal to me, but could be to other guests. The house was a little loud, you could hear folks in the kitchen, in other rooms etc. But this did not cause any problems. Everyone was pretty quiet.

The location was extremely convenient: one mile from the Biltmore Estate and one mile from downtown Asheville.

The owners provided many nice touches: they serve dessert from 6:30 to 9:00 for folks who like to digest a little bit after dinner before eating dessert. They also turn down the beds and provide a yummy chocolate on your pillow. They provide a nice introduction to the house and the B and Bs services upon arrival and have cold drinks and snacks available. They serve coffee early for people who like to get caffinated before breakfast.

The owners did a very good job of being friendly and helpful without being too friendly--a problem I have experienced several times at B and B's where the staff hangs around to chat a little too much. They provided good recommendations on places to eat and things to see. They were interested in getting to know us. But they did not go overboard.

They were also very accomadating to a scheduling error I had made. We originally made reservations for one night but actually were going to be in town on a different night. We did have to upgrade to higher priced rooms because that was all that was available on the night we really needed to be there. But they were extremely helpful and flexible in dealing with my error.

The prices were pretty competitive for other B and Bs in the area. It was not cheap, but it was a quality experience.

My only complaint was that the breakfast was a major sugar-fest. This is common at B and Bs. They often serve only sweet options (carmelized french toast, sweet muffins, pastries...) and no options for folks who like a little real food (eggs, toast, etc.).

Overall, this was a bery nice place and I would recommend it highly to people who want to stay at a well located, very historic home with friendly, personal service.
