We stayed in the Marion Hall room, was perfect for our trip. The owners are incredibly knowldgeable about the area and make good recommendations, they make you very welcome in their home. Breakfast was incredible. We definately plan on staying here again when we go back to Asheville.

We stayed in the Fannie Rice for three nights and truly enjoyed ourselves in celebration of our two year anniversary. It was quiet (even with a full house) and private yet warm and welcoming. Whatever we needed was just downstairs 24 hours a day- including soft drinks, bottled water, Port and Sherry, books, snacks, etc. Everything was perfect - the room, the bathroom, the WONDERFUL breakfasts, the hospitality, the location (1 minute from downtown and 8 minutes from the Biltmore), the grounds, the gracious hosts (especially William- who helps w/ breakfast), the available DVD collection, fresh flowers in the room, the soft robes, the book of messages written by those who had stayed in that room in the past, the soft sheets, (they even have down pillows or more firm pillows), and lastly the coffee or hot tea brought just outside your room every morning at 8am (no knock). They were very helpful and unobtrusive. Every detail of the house was clean and gorgeous. All of the reviews we read were helpful but did not explain just how beautiful the property is!! Stay at the Lion and the Rose! You definitely will not regret it.

We stayed two nights at The Lion and The Rose. The Inn is in Montfort area not far from the City Center. The owners really throw out the welcome mat with cookies, tea, coffee and soft drinks being available 24 hours a day. The Inn kept coming up with little extras. They offered asprin, toothpaste and other personal items that absent minded tourists (like me) might have forgotten. One nice touch is the delivery of coffee or tea to your room at 8:00 each morning. Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30 in the formal dining room. One morning we had crepes and the second a quiche. Both were very good and served with a choice of juice and fruit. The Inn has a lovely front porch and side patio. We enjoyed sitting outside on the patio next to the small fountain each evening wathcing the stars with a glass of sherry. It rained every day of our visit and we were glad to avail ourselves of the umbrellas the Inn had for our use. The nice hot shower each night was very welcome after the chilly rainy days. The owners were very helpful in suggesting things to do and see in the Asheville area. We enjoyed meeting Cedric, the wire-hair fox terrier who is the on-site comedian of the house. The Lion and the Rose made Asheville a very inviting place to stay.

I have stayed at a few different B&B's in Asheville, and this is my absolute favorite. The house was very warm and modern and the hosts were so very accomodating. They welcomed us to a snack bar and drinks at any time and also had a drawer full of emergency items (ie. bandaids, aspirin), etc for us to use. Just these little gestures made all the difference. The gentleman that served us breakfast was a real hoot and made our experience even more memorable. Stay here- you'll love it!

This was my first time at staying at a bed & breakfast and I truly had a wonderful time. I had planned a small weekend getaway to see downtown Asheville on the weekend of March 11 - 13. The weather was great and drive to Asheville (from High Point) was very scenic. Just seeing The Lion & the Rose for the first time, compared to all of the other surrounding B&Bs around it, I knew this was a special place. The house is absolutely stunning and extremely charming. The grounds were already looking green and growing (and it was early March with snow in the forecast). I had an early check-in (around 12 noon) and the housekeeper, Billy, showed me to my room and told me about all of their amenities since Jim & Linda Palmer (the innkeepers) were temporarily out.

My first night in the bed & breakfast was one of the most relaxing times I have spent in a lodging facility. I stayed in the Holger-Nielson room and was impressed with its antique charm and beautiful bed. A robe was provided for me in the closet along with chocolates and fresh flowers. I also enjoyed reading the diary on the desk that had comments from past travelers (I added my own on the morning of departure). A TV was mounted on the wall, but I was so relaxed, I felt that TV would only disturb me, so I rarely used it. The bed had soft sheets and feather-down pillows. The bathroom contained a shower and included a hairdryer plus luxury soaps and shampoos. They also had a cabinet on the 2nd floor with extra hygiene products such as deodorant, toothpaste, etc. in case you forgot to bring some. The room even included a nice digital alarm clock with soundstation -- I personally enjoyed the rain/thunder sound and waterfall sound each night to drift me to sleep. The room had a phone with a data port, although I did not have a computer with me so I didn't use it. Each night was quiet and I could barely hear anything else go on inside or outside of the house.

Each morning at 8am, I was greeted with a nice hot cup of coffee with cream & sugar. On Saturday morning, I was the first one to the dining area and met with Linda Palmer. She was extremely nice and an excellent hostess. I was first served delicious grilled grapefruit with sprinkled sugar (I'm not even a grapefruit fan, but this was good). I was served my choice of coffees, teas, or juice. For the main meal, I enjoyed delicious gourmet sweet potato pancakes that were personally made by Jim Palmer. For Sunday's breakfast, the meal started off with strawberries & cream and then we had a southwestern breakfast casserole with chips, guacamole and some spices that was very delicious.

Overall, I will definitely be coming back! I LOVED The Lion & the Rose Bed & Breakfast and would recommend staying there to anybody!

My husband and I just returned from a delightful trip to Asheville. We stayed at the Lion and Rose located in the historic Montford district. Having traveled extensively and bed and breakfasted both here and abroad, we can absolutely recommend this beautiful and gracious B&B. We splurged on the third floor suite, which is a charming Victorian apartment complete with fireplace and small balcony. Every morning, fresh coffee was delivered to our door, and we could enjoy sitting out on our private balcony, sipping steaming coffee in our sumptuous Lion and Rose robes. After that we were treated to a truly gourmet breakfast by Linda and Jim on elegant china and crystal ware. We also got to peek into the other guest rooms - and they are stunning and immaculate. The website doesn't do this place justice. It's truly the BEST!
