We stayed at the Reynolds Mansion for 3 nights of our early spring, 12-day road trip. We were traveling with big and heavy luggage. Upon our arrival, Billy swung open the front door, deftly grabbed our suitcases in each hand, flew up the stairs, and gently set them down in our room. That was the astonishing beginning of the most pleasant lodging experience we have ever had in our entire history of travel to fine inns across this country. From his guidance about excellent dining, (and there are many choices in Asheville, to the best way to visit the Vanderbilt and other Asheville destinations, we were well advised. Billy's breakfasts were a celebration, every single day. I usually don't eat much for breakfast, but, as Billy regaled us all with stories at the head of the beautiful dining table, I ate slowly, much, and was well-fueled for the day's adventures. The Reynolds' porches and flower gardens and inside decor, not to mention 2 very well-behaved, generally out of site small doggies, made this lodging experience the best we have ever experienced. I cannot speak highly enough of the experience. Oh, and the King size bed was very comfortable (we slept so well), and the room decor (with fresh flowers!) was wonderful.

when planning a trip to Asheville we found the Reynolds Mansion and what a great find! We stayed for only 2 nights and those were the 2 most relaxing days/nights we have had in a long time. Think pampered ... that is what one experiences at this lovely bed and breakfast. Not only were Billy and Michael the most amazing hosts, their small staff were personable, kind and most accommodating. Hey Billy, we are planning a return visit!

There’s your normal, everyday B & B experience, then there’s the Reynolds Mansion in Asheville, NC. From the first moment you walk onto the magnificent wrap-around front porch and meet Billy and Mike, you understand why it’s one-of-a-kind. It’s like being invited to a very special dinner party at a dear friend’s home -- only the home is a grand slice of living history and the dear friend is someone you just met!

Pick a room, any room; they all have something special and comforting to offer. The breakfast room especially has a vibe all to itself. You’ll feel like Lord and Lady Grantham dining in Downton Abbey surrounded by superb staff. As Billy himself said, “a bed and breakfast is truly about the breakfast”, and breakfast at the Mansion is unlike any I have ever experienced. The exquisite setting, the antique china, the glorious food, excellent coffee and even fresh honey from Billy’s own bees raised on the beautifully manicured four-acre site of the inn, all adds up to perfect.

But, the truly special and unique difference at Reynolds Mansion is Billy himself. With all the aplomb of a gracious Southern host, Billy sits regally at the head of a table laden with sumptuous egg dishes, amazing creamy grits, the best apple-wood bacon ever, fresh fruit, sides of melt-in-your-mouth pancakes and iced sweet buns and regales his guests with wonderful tales about the inn and its unique and sometimes eerie past. I have never met a B & B host who takes such an interest in his guests and believe me when I tell you, Billy could easily be a successful stand-up comic with his hilarious detailed stories and perfect delivery. Your spirits will be uplifted and your mood will transcend the ordinary.

On the practical side, anything you need to know about Asheville and the surrounding area, including insider tips on the best restaurants, advice on side trips to beautiful natural wonders, and how to find the up and coming arts district without getting totally lost – Billy can provide. Reynolds Mansion defines what every B & B should be. It’s the perfect combination of a gloriously preserved home, quiet, comforting sleeping quarters, delicious meals, and the most gracious host you can imagine. You absolutely can’t go wrong choosing the Reynolds Mansion; it will be an experience you’ll cherish.

We recently spend a wonderful weekend at the Reynolds Mansion. This charming B&B is a great place to get away from the daily routine. Billy and Michael were wonderful hosts who are rightfully very proud of their extensive efforts at restoring this historic home. The entire place was immaculate, including the beautiful grounds. Breakfast both days was awesome--you will not need any lunch! Billy was gracious enough to sent us his recipe for his spinach and egg strata we had Saturday morning. We will definitely be returning here later this year. Jim & Ann N.

To make the bold statement that The Reynolds Mansion is THE best bed and breakfast in the world is made after years of traveling around the world. My husband and I have stayed at bed and breakfasts / boutique hotels from Georgetown, Malaysia to Durban, South Africa to Amsterdam to numerous places in France. We have stayed in B&Bs in many states in the United States, and there is no doubt that this bed and breakfast run by Billy and Mike is absolutely THE best in the world.
For my husband’s birthday, we made a return trip to The Reynolds Mansion. We took our Australian Shepherd with us as the rooms in the carriage house can accommodate dogs up to a certain size. The huge brick house that was built in 1847 is off limits to dogs for a variety of reasons. Our room, All That Jazz” is a delightful room. There is plenty of space even with an Aussie in it. The furniture is very comfortable and the bed is beautifully decorated. The large bed was very comfortable to sleep in. And, the great gas logs in the fireplace took the edge off of the cool mountain air. There is a nice size Jacuzzi bathtub and a walk-in shower in the bathroom. All details have been thought of with this room and every room in the mansion. The carriage house has its own deck overlooking the mansion and the mountains. In the morning, you can smell the delicious breakfasts being cooked in the mansion’s kitchen. It is a wonderful sensory delight.
Our favorite getaway in the mansion is the library. Billy has made this room very comfortable for drinking wine, reading books or talking to fellow guests. There is a soothing aquarium (with Aqua Man!) in the corner. Gas logs really add to the ambience. Cool lit models of buildings in New York City adorn this room. Across the hall is a room with vintage furniture. Birds are in a cage in one corner. Historic documents and photos of the Reynolds family are in various places of this room. The family has played an important part in North Carolina’s history.
Billy’s breakfast is to die for! He has about two weeks’ worth of meals to serve to his guests. The only way to get the same meal again is to stay for three weeks. His breakfasts are gourmet and are served on china. There are so many sets of china that you will not have the same one again during your stay. Every breakfast starts off with fresh fruit. What follows is a huge and delicious breakfast. The meals are so good that there is usually very little food left by the guests. Many will exclaim that they skip lunch due to the size of Billy’s breakfasts. Coffee, tea and juice are provided, and the staff is right on things as your cup and glass will never be empty. If you are lucky, you will be able to hear at least one of Billy’s ghosts stories. Guests are always enchanted by what he has to say. Ask him about the painting of the woman from Louisiana that hangs in the dining room! Any time during the day, one can grab some of Billy’s great baked goods. His macaroons are wonderful. And, there is complimentary wine offered.
A great way to spend the last minutes of the day is on the front porch of The Reynolds Mansion. Sitting in one of the numerous rocking chairs with a bottle of wine or some Asheville beer is a great way to watch the sun set and the colors change in the sky as night falls upon Appalachia. An urban village sits below the front yard of the mansion, but the juxtaposition between urban life and the mountains makes for a pleasant setting. It is really nice when the lights of the village start twinkling with the dark blue and purple skies above the mountains.
There is a total of 3,000 square feet of wraparound porches on this historic house. If you do not want the sun in your face as it sets over the Blue Ridge Mountains, the back porch beckons you with its swinging chairs and rocking chairs. A whimsical table fountain with crows will sooth you as you relax, overlooking the beautiful gardens Billy has tendered. There always seems to be something gorgeous blooming in his gardens. The man is so talented that he raises chickens for your fresh eggs and makes his own honey from his beehives. The honey is so good that he plans to ramp up production this year due to last year’s demand for his delicious and high-quality honey.
Service at The Reynolds Mansion is impeccable. Our rooms were always taken care of in a professional manner. This included replacing the toiletries daily. Jim is a wonderful part of the staff. He is always smiling, and has learned to cook all of Billy’s great meals.
An added bonus to the mansion is the walkability of the area. Reynolds Village is just two minutes from the mansion. Unfortunately, building started during the Great Recession, but now things are really picking up thus there are many shops to go to while staying at The Reynolds Mansion. We understand that Thirsty Monk – a fantastic place to sample dozens of Asheville beers on tap and beers from around the world – is going to open up in May. This will be a great way to end the day as you can walk “back home” after a dinner and drinks there.
With so many choices in Asheville, it can be overwhelming to choose a bed and breakfast. If you are looking for the very best in town and THE world, look no further than 100 Reynolds Heights. You will be pleased you did and you will be making more trips to THE best B&B in the world to relax and unwind.
