“Nice and accommodating”

My friend and I went for a 3 night 'Girlfriend's trip' and had a lovely time. We rented the very top sweet in the main house which was a suite with 2 separate bedrooms, a private sitting area, and a big bathroom with both a huge tub and a shower. It was even better than we expected, although the stair climb was a bit rough sometimes. Thankfully, they carried our luggage both up and down the stairs for us, which was very kind. Aveda toiletries, white towels, microfiber white heavenly sheets and linens (which you can buy through them) were all nice touches. Jim and Chris were very attentive, picked veges from their garden to use in the candlelight breakfasts, and served wine daily. Erica could not have been more helpful, helping us find restaurants, explaining the maps, etc. The house is Victorian, with gorgeous antiques and period moldings, paintings, stained glass, original woodwork...stunning. The wrap around porch offers white rocking chairs, a porch swing, ferns and pretty landscaping...very nice. Unfortunately, the fireplace in my room would not work, but I would recommend this Inn, and I would stay there again. Thank you for a lovely visit.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so you must walk up the stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floors. The top Sarah Thomps...

I have stayed at Beaufort House twice in the past two years. We received a terrific warm welcome on both occasions. I would strongly recommend Beaufort House to everyone whose plans bring them to Asheville NC. It is an attractive historic, comfortable, and well run inn.

Chris & Jim, the owners, are super friendly, upbeat and knowledgeable and their staff are very helpful too. The breakfasts are delicious! And happy hour is a lovely, relaxing touch!
Check it out for yourself. You will be glad you did!

We are currently spending our second night in this lovely inn in Asheville. The location is wonderful with good access to the blue ridge parkway, downtown Asheville, the Biltmore house.

One excellent point that others have made is the owners and staff. We were greeted upon checkin by Stephanie. Stephanie is very personable, knowledgable about the inn and Asheville. She asks great questions to determine your likes, dislikes, and what you would like to do.

The owners Jim and Chris also excellent, friendly, and strive to make your stay wonderful.

Breakfast was fantastic, lightest waffles I have ever eaten.

I do agree with others about the value for your $. We have stayed in B&B's all over the country including Maine, Napa, Alaska, Santa Barbara, and many in in the North Carolina. We stayed in the garden room, it was bright and airy with a private porch, bedding was great, bed a little uncomfortable. One big problem is the bathroom. No vanity for your stuff, no mirror over the sink and while I loved the extra long claw foot tub, the water was not hot enough and it is a little difficult to use( but, in their defense, this is an old house)

We stayed at the Beaufort House Inn for a short stay in Asheville. We really enjoyed the B&B and I like to be specific about our pros and cons for any place we stay.

Pros:
- Owners/Staff: Jim, Chris & Erica are helpful, accomodating and personable. Everything you could ask for at your B&B.
- House: They have made updates to the house where possible, but it is an older house. TV, Wifi, etc... all worked well.
- Location: The house is far enough from the noise of downtown, but close enough to walk. You do have to walk under the interstate bridge, but that didn't bother us.
- Breakfast: Some of the best B&B breakfast dishes I've ever had that were truly restaurant quality.
- Extras: Water, coffee, tea available all day and wine for a few hours in the evening. Cookies and other things sometimes available.
- Parking: Plenty of parking for a full house.
- Neighborhood: The Inn is in a nice neighborhood, but it's not completely secluded.

Cons:
- Price: We stayed in the Theodore Davidson and it was pricier than we would have liked for the room. Other less expensive rooms were booked, so I don't know if we would have been happier with the value proposition there.
- House: As stated, this is a historical landmark, so it's an old house. Floors, stairs and doors are sometimes creaky. You can hear others at times, but it was never when we were trying to sleep. We may have just been lucky, but our experience was good. We came back a little late some nights and it was almost impossible not to make some noise.
- Bed: Our bed was supposed to be a queen, but it felt small for a queen bed. Otherwise, the bed and our sleep was fine.

Overall, we would recommend the Beaufort House Inn for a visit to Asheville. They offer a top notch B&B experience.

Depending on your criteria and which room you stay in, you might find this Bed and Breakfast average or above average.

First, the positive.

This is a great location. Beaufort House Inn is located in a quiet neighborhood about a 15 minute walk to downtown. We walked to downtown and downtown was pretty noisy, so staying in a neighborhood is a huge plus. Also, you can park in a deck downtown for $5 or $6 a day, so I see no advantage to staying downtown.

The breakfasts were very good. They alternate between sweet on one day and savory on the other. They do prepare vegan or gluten free meals upon prior request. You should also mention if you have a nut allergy, as it is an ingredient they like to use.

Coffee and tea are available all day (make your own from many selections).

The house and grounds are attractive. The front deck is a charming place to rock on a porch swing. The tables set for breakfast are lovely. There is a hammock in the yard.

Jim and Chris obviously put their hear into this and are eager to please. The females on staff are also very pleasant and friendly.

Now, for the not so great...

We stayed in the Willow cabin. Be aware that if your concept of a cabin is a free standing building, that does not apply here. There is a long building that contains the 3 rental units called "cabins." This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it isn't as private or secluded as you might imagine.

The view from the back deck of our unit was partly trees and partly another house. We just kept the curtains closed the whole time. The view out the large front windows was of the driveway and the back of the house. The curtains were not lined, they were not sheers, they were unlined curtains, but because of the large windows, it did not feel very private. Also, because the curtain was unlined it did not block outside lighting and/or sunlight very effectively. Simply adding a light blocking lining to these curtains would do a lot to improve this unit.

The bed was not very comfortable. The sheets were scrumptious, but the mattress was uncomfortable and as a result we did not sleep well which detracted from our trip.

The jacuzzi is great if you have enough hot water. Apparently the water heater is not big enough to handle all 3 cabins hot water needs. One night we had hot water and the next night we could barely get tepid water.

The other down side is there is a jacuzzi, but no shower! You can very awkwardly use a hand held sprayer in the jacuzzi for a shower.

If your main goal is a pretty place to stay with a great breakfast, this house may be for you. If practicalities like a comfortable bed and quick shower are more important to you, you might want to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: The cabins are not really cabins, but 3 units in a triplex.

HI Annie,
Thanks for taking the time to give us detailed feedback on your stay. We try very hard to please every guest every day so your comments are much appreciated.

Thanks for many kind things you said about our special breakfasts, location, amenities, the house, our grounds and the overall ambiance of the Inn. Chris and I and our team try to make each guests experience an exceptional one so as you mentioned, we are “eager to please” and hopefully “very pleasant and friendly” (smile)

We also appreciate your detailed assessment of the Willow Cottage. We are always trying to improve the guest experience so we appreciate your insight. On this Historic property all of our rooms are unique. The Willow Cottage ( it is not a cabin) is a favorite of some guests but may not be the best selection for others. We try to help guest make the best selection for their needs. Here are some TripAdvisor comments from recent guests

“we enjoyed being out of the main house with the relative privacy of the cottages. We were in the middle cottage which was fine - no need to feel that you need to be on the end.” (NancyC613)

“The willow cottage has a two person tub at floor level. Something different.” (89scottm)

We are happy that you had so many positive things to say about the Inn and we hope that you will return again soon and enjoy all we have to offer, and at the same time let us help you select a room that will be more suitable to your needs.

Thanks for your communication

We stayed at the Beaufort Inn for our anniversary recently. The hosts are very friendly and the house is inviting. The bed was not very comfortable and the house is loud if other guests are talking. I was up until 12am hearing the ladies upstairs talking. The breakfast was delicious. The location was
perfect for walking to
downtown. Overall it was a nice getaway.

Thanks for taking the time to give us feedback on TripAdvisor. We work hard to please our guest everyday so we take this feedback very seriously.
We also appreciate that you chose to celebrate your anniversary with us. We take that responsibility seriously and are pleased that your overall experience was a positive one.

As you mentioned, we are very sorry that you did not find the bed to be comfortable. We have not had similar comments about the bed in the Garden Room so we were unaware that might be a problem. We have found that guests have a wide variety of sleeping preferences so sometime our beds are different than what you are used to. We are so sorry the bed did not meet your expectations.

Also, we are very dismayed that noise from other guests was disturbing to you. This is extremely unusual because of the size and construction of the Inn. We discovered after you left, that the two sisters, who were staying on the 3rd floor suite with their 89 year old Mother, were enjoying their boisterous reunion in the hallway (while their Mother slept) rather than in the sitting room of their suite as typically happens. We wish you would have called us so we could have addressed the situation immediately. We provide our personal cell phone numbers to all guests at the front desk and in the binder in your rooms. When we are aware of a problem we try to address it immediately to ensure that your time with us is an exceptional experience.
In any case we apologize for any inconvenience you experienced.

Our reputation in the marketplace is critical to our survival. TripAdvisor is a key instrument in this effort, and a poor review has a strong negative impact on our reputation, occupancy and business success. In over 6 years we have had almost 550 TripAdvisor reviews and this was only the 4th time we have received a rating of 3.

In any case, we hope that you will return to the Beaufort House on your next trip to Asheville and give us an opportunity to demonstrate how exceptional our hospitality can be.
Thanks

Impressive, historic house and grounds that have obviously been lovingly restored and maintained. The large porch with swing and rocking chairs is great to sit with coffee after breakfast on a chilly morning or a glass of wine in the evenings. The innkeepers and all staff we encountered were super welcoming, professional, and had great recommendations for the local area. Super tasty 2 course breakfast served in formal dining area each morning at 9am. Lovely quiet neighborhood. 10-15 walk to the downtown shopping area. The only word of warning I would have is to remember that all old houses have their quirks and creaks. You will hear your neighbors coming up the wooden central stairwell. Our door knob fell off one morning. Four poster beds and claw foot tubs look cool, but may not be as comfortable/functional as more modern travelers are used to (although water pressure was surprisingly good). So just know before you go that it's a tad like staying in a museum, if that's not your thing then pick elsewhere.

Room Tip: If you have any hip or knee problems or bad balance, then don't stay in the Davidson room. The t...

Thanks so much for the exceptionally complimentary review you gave us. We try very hard make the guest experience in Asheville, and at our Inn, a memorable one, so we are grateful when guests enjoy their experiences and notice the details and hospitality we put so much effort into.

We appreciate your observations and the many kind things you said.
We also know that as a historic property there are some unique characteristics of the Inn including, creaks on the stairs, antique wavy glass windows, etc, that guests find are part of the character and charm.

My only clarification to your comments is that we really endeavor to avoid anything that makes the beauty of this historic property seem at all like a museum. We have really attempted to simplify the décor so that the architecture and design of the Inn can be be savored, enjoyed and comfortably lived in.

GQ Magazine visited us and described us as “Stately….not stuffy” That is what we are going for.

We have tried to combine the beauty and ambiance of this historic property with its extraordinary wood work, fireplaces, porch and design….with many modern conveniences of including white hotel linens, WIFI, LCD TVs, IPOD players, etc.

So thanks for your kind review and we hope you will visit us again soon.

Thanks
