“Afternoon relaxation ”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

Not what I expected. Views awesome, building impressive, greater wonderfully!!!!! when entering building. Went to the out door luncheon area for a light bite and cool drink. Had cheese plater and fresh pickel end veggie plater. Wonderful food! Horrible service, beer warm, asked for water repeatedly and slow service and less then sociable waitress. Would of stayed longer but it ruined the mood. Feel like I've been there done that now!!!

Thank you for dining with us and passing along your thoughts. We are glad you enjoyed the views, architecture and warm welcome you received upon arrival but are very sorry for not meeting your expectations during your dining experience. We have passed along your comments to our culinary team who is reviewing the incident and will take measures to ensure the lack of attention is not repeated. These isolated incidents are very out of character for our staff and we hope you will return someday for a more pleasant meal.

Always wanted to spend the night at the beautiful Grove Park Inn. Only stayed once before for a b/day celebration and shared the room with a friend. This occasion was terrific since my granddaughter and I used the valet service and were treated royally by the staff, in the spa, and at dinner in the Sunset Terrace.

We live in Asheville and often take visitors to see the Grove Park Inn (sure they like the Omni listed first, but to those in AVL, not...) We discovered that you can get a nice self-guided tour of the Hotel from the Concierge in the Hotel. It has interesting information and leads you thru the hotel. With this guide in hand one can wander without feeling too much like a voyeur. It was an enjoyable time for us even tho' our timing did not allow us to have a drink & dine in Edison's (another time and review for that). Parking is free for the first 3 hours and that gave us plenty of time for our tour.

Great room. Exquisite service. Met all our expectations and threw in some wonderful surprises (tell the front desk why you came when you check in...) :) We were there for my wife's birthday and the staff made that a really exquisite experience. The rock work alone is a wonder to see. Then the views soaring out to the Smokey Mountains. This is a walk back in time. A delight not to be missed.

We appreciate you selecting us as the destination for your wife's recent birthday celebration and for taking the time to pass along your review. We were ecstatic to learn that you both enjoyed yourselves and your expectations were met. Thank you for your kind words and for mentioning our staff. We hope to welcome you back next time you have a chance.

The hotel was in wonderful condition despite being a historic site. The views are unparalleled. While the value is not excellent, you are paying for a five star experience. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. The lobby is a relaxing, welcoming place to sit.

The hotel is beautiful and historic. As a casual, outdoor traveller, I was a bit out of place. The hotel is removed from the heart of Asheville. It's a beautiful destination stay, but not the best choice if looking to experience Asheville.

We recently stayed a night at the Grove Park Inn and it has lost its appeal for me. It has been several years since we were guests and the changes seemed to make our stay so impersonal. The staff was courteous, friendly and helpful but the overall ambiance just wasn't the same as in the past. Parking was a nightmare as we were unaware of all the changes and fees. When the folks we were meeting tried to book a room they were told repeatedly that Grove Park was a four star resort as an explanation for all the additional fees. Really!! They stayed elsewhere. We always stay in the older section and our room was nice and basically clean except for the hairs in the bathtub which is a no-no as far as I'm concerned. I did like all the dining choices and of course the sunset porch, rockers and all the areas to sit, relax and enjoy the views. The spa was nice but very crowded. I will go back and give the inn a second chance but there are so many other equivalent places to stay in the Asheville area.

Room Tip: The traditional rooms in the oldest section have been updated but they still held their charm.

We appreciate you being a repeat guest of ours and your candid remarks towards your recent experience. We are very sorry for the impersonal feeling you developed. It is our number priority to cater to all of our guests needs and specifically tailor each experience to their wishes. We regret this element was not visible during your stay. We also apologize for the concerns you had with the room you were in as well as the guest volume at The Spa. We have addressed both of these issues and will continue to monitor to ensure the situation is not repeated. We hope you will consider coming back someday and re-living your more pleasant experiences from the past.
