The Omni Grove Park Inn
Ranked #13 of 66 Hotels in Asheville
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 28 July 2014

My husband and I love to stay in four and five star hotels. Sometimes it's even a short weekend stay in a special hotel in our home State. Near or far, it's always an adventure. Our friends know this about us and often ask us about our experiences. So, the survey question is: would you recommend The Omni Grove Park Inn to your friends? Yes, I would recommend this hotel to my friends. My husband appears to feel the same way. Great Right!! I would give them my opinion and also enough information to make an informed decision. The rest would be their research on the internet.

I would tell them from the moment we arrived to valet park, the staff was helpful and very friendly. Our Bellman "Robert" was personable, shared a wealth of informative knowledge about the hotel, making our welcome special. He even moved us from a room on the lower level to a preferred larger corner room on the 6th floor in the new wing. He kept his smile and great demeanor. He took us pass the waterfall and Spa. Our final room was spacious without a mountain or resort view. But, the room was nicer and more our preference. We moved from the room on the ground floor which had a view of the golf course. My husband and I agree we have stayed in much better rooms. It was clean with a good lay out. The value was not exceptional.

Our appreciation of the experience we had was for the architecture and design of the hotels interior and exterior as a whole. It is beautiful with historical vintage scenery. The view from so many angles day or night is truly outstanding and amazing. The pictures of celebrities displayed throughout the hotel are fun to read as you wonder what the hotel must have been like through their eyes so long ago. The food was delicious at the Blue Ridge. We were given detailed and helpful information by the concierge for our trip to Biltmore Estates, which was part of the purpose for our visit. The hotel is a beautiful destination stay.

We do feel that the value for the hotel could be better packaged. Find away to not nickel and dime your guests. There are many four star hotels which do not charge a separate fee for the use of their swimming pool, valet parking fees per day, or self parking fees per day and the use of the Internet should be optional. We didn't use any of the activities automatically charged daily at $25.00 simply for being a guest for two days. The use of the pool should be included with the room for all guest. A hotel as classy as Grove Park Inn should never leave even the slightest impression that fees are more important than your guests. We find that four and five star hotels are offering wonderful perks to guests and word of mouth travels fast, even prior to social media.

Hope We Meet Again,

Karen E.K.J. GA

Room Tip: Corner rooms on the higher floors usually are larger with a nice view.

The Grove Park Inn was recommended by a family member who knew that we were going to Asheville, NC. Our stay at the historic hotel was magnificent. We loved the historical display of photos on each floor of the venerable old hotel. The elevator operators acted as guides to give some of the history and recommended a trip down the stairs from the top (6th) floor, as the theme of the display on each floor of the Inn is different. Every employee was friendly, and we were made to feel special, and welcomed by each one, and the bed was one of the best hotel beds I have slept on! We regretted that we only had a single night to stay at the Grove Park. We WILL be back for a longer visit.

This is a great hotel for special occasions or just a weekend getaway. An icon. Full of history. Excellent hotel service throughout our stay from the valets, doormen, front desk, consierge despite the fact that the hotel was nearly full and everyone was very busy. Room comfort was excellent, (we had a king size bed which was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in). The restaurants we tried- (Edison for a lunch and cocktails.. Sunset Terrace for dinner and the Blue Ridge for the breakfast buffet were all excellent (but not for the value oriented 'deal' seeker). Service and fare both were excellent and a special shout out to Aaron, our waiter in the Sunset Terrace. This is an expensive hotel, but the ambiance, the service, the fabulous facility with all its history, and the magnificent mountain views from the rooms and restaurants, make it well worth it.
And the Spa , which my wife used,, is second to none. She definitely wants to come back within a few months just for that. My one recommendation to management would be to definitely get rid of the bottle of water in the room with the $5.00 ding if you drink it gimmick... terribly out of place for a such an otherwise first class hotel. Give it a try and enjoy the stay.

Room Tip: Our room was in the Sammon wing and overlooked the golf course and had a great mountain view.

We went to the GPI for my wife's birthday. This report is our favorite. Beautiful, relaxing and exactly perfect. The breakfast and dinners in the Blueridge Dining room is amazing. The Spa is one of my favorite places in the world. And the piano bar was great fun. Staff is always professional and extremely helpful. I truly could not say enough great things about this visit!

Renovated Room in the Vanderbilt Wing was mildly disappointing. Allowing multiple barking pets in a room on our floor was inappropriate for the caliber of this resort hotel. I would expect a slightly better view from the room.

We would like to apologize for the occurrence of barking dogs during your recent visit with us. We are a pet friendly hotel but have very strict policies related to the dogs behavior while they are here. We hope you will consider returning in the future for a more tranquil stay.

Great hotel if you stay out of your room. Rooms ruin the hotel. Even the updated rooms. Beds are so small. Maids do not clean very well and the air-conditioning never gets below 68. Awesome hotel and food. Just stay out of your room. Rooms not worth the price.

At least the Omni found a way to comfortably air condition the front lobby. Don't get stuck in the original section unless you are a tiny person; only then can you enjoy the "historic" nature of your accomodations. Edison's is great space and bar- dinner options a bit shallow. If you like dueling piano bars, Elaine's is for you - if not, consider a cab into town. Too bad Asheville ended Belle Chere. Must visit locale and Inn, but not a great value for return visits.
