We went to this hotel because our family had a link to Mr Grove who founded the hotel. The hotel has been added on to several times and is really big. The view is gorgeous and I would have loved to have read a great view for hours in one of the loveley rocking chairs but that's just not an option on family vacations. We stayed in the newer part of the hotel as it offered double queens so rooms in the older part of the hotel may be different. Our room was fairly run of the mill. Nothing special and nothing bad. Housekeeping service seemed to be the weak link. Check-in, restaurant, valet and everywhere else service was up to snuff. While my kids enjoyed the history of the hotel and the huge (and expensive) buffet breakfast there really isn't much to appeal to kids here unless they like to play golf. The pool is a shuttle bus ride away and just a plain pool with nothing to appeal to kids. The sports center is a fair walk or shuttle bus but just offers another boring indoor pool. The restaurants here are very expensive with okay food. There are lots of great restaurants downtown at lower prices. I think if we returned to Asheville we would stay downtown as we really enjoyed the vibe and restaurants there. We spent so much time rafting and doing other out door activites we really were not at the hotel very much. Maybe consider Grove Park if you are in town to play golf, spa or sit in a rocking chair and observe a beautiful view.

We were bar hopping and hiking in Asheville, and treated ourselves to one night at the Grove Park Inn. We spent a lot on a corner room for one night, but I don't think it would be better any other way. If you're going to have the front "garden/parking lot" view, there's no need in wasting your money. Pay the extra for mountain view. It's worth it. We could only image how great it would be in spring, fall, or with snowfall. We couldn't afford the spa, so no comments there. It would be best to stay more than 1 night, so you could enjoy the history of the place, and the ambiance of the main hotel area. We stayed in the Sammons wing, which was good. The door to the adjoining room is not very soundproof. The dinner at Sunset Terrace was a little pricey. We should have opted for Edison's. Beware of valet. They parked our new model car under the pine trees, and it took several washings and commercial tar remover to clean it up. I would still like to go back and stay 2 nights, once I save up...

Room Tip: If you're not paying for the view, then don't bother... The Corner rooms/suites are wonderfu...

Let me start by saying the valet/outside parking staff was great. We had no issues with them, even used the valet parking since it was only $7 more than parking ourselves and they were able to plug our EV in for us. That was pretty much the highlight of our visit for our 20th anniversary. Our stay was comped by my husband's employer and we were very glad we weren't paying for it ourselves. We were booked in a $371 mountain view panoramic room and it was HIGHLY disappointing. No bigger for the actual room than discount chain hotels we've stayed in, even though it was advertised as bigger. They are counting a ridiculously un-useful hallway leading from double (and might I add beat up and not hanging correctly) doors around a corner into the room. There was nothing "luxury" about the room. Tiny bathroom. The view wasn't even that great from either window either. Not worth that much money! The only way I'd suggest anyone pay that much for that room is if it included, for that price, something in the spa, maybe a meal and free parking! We could hear everything our neighbors said and hear their TV and they weren't actually being loud! It was our anniversary and we felt as if we had zero privacy! While the staff was all very nice, we never felt like they cared if we were there. Our bill was incorrect and we had to have it fixed before we left - they tried to charge us for parking twice! Parking - something that should be included when you pay this much to stay in their way overpriced rooms! We did enjoy our breakfast at the Blue Ridge restaurant and the waitress even brought us a special Happy Anniversary plate, which was very sweet. However, the buffet, while awesome, wasn't really worth $50 for 2 people if you ask me. I think the hotel owners think way more of their establishment, their food, their water bottles, their drinks, and their guest rooms than any sane person should. Sure, if you're loaded and don't mind dropping a ton of money out a window, go for it. For the common person, don't waste your money here. Go just about anywhere else and you'll have nicer accommodations, probably have service that is just as good as we had and you'll spend way less money and have a better time. We are of the opinion that the hotel owners need to rethink the high prices for these rooms that just aren't that nice. Clearly they are making money from the overpriced amenities elsewhere in the place, so give guests a break on sleeping where you can hear everything outside and nearby your room instead.

Fabulous property...nice staff...I would definitely stay here again! In the mountains! Beautiful view no matter where you go on the property! Didn't have time to spend at the Spa or use the amenities on property.

Room Tip: This is a resort...ask for the Sammons side and request the golf view..can see the mountains in the...

Employees are very well trained. Everyone from the valet to the busboys has a courteous and professional manner with customers. The hotel is a landmark with exceptional mountain views, however it is quite large and when full, feels crowded.
I only saw the room in which I stayed---great view, clean and comfortable. The problem was the bathroom--so small only one person could be in there at a time and the toilet was so close to the tub that the outer shower curtain touched it--not a good situation. Perhaps other rooms have larger bathrooms with different layouts, if I chose to return, I would find out. The Grove Park Inn is worth experiencing as it's appearance is charming but keep the aforementioned caveats in mind.

Room Tip: If at all possible, reserve a room with a mountain view.

The hotel is nice. Very good customer service but don't stay overnight! We stayed in an expensive $371 rated room (panoramic corner view room) and it was no nicer or bigger than a cheap room at a discount chain. We could hear every sound from our neighbors and they weren't being loud, really! Horribly disappointed with the room...the view wasn't that great. Go elsewhere and pay less. Restaurant was nice, but still not worth the money.
