I have been fortunate enough to stay here on several occasions - mostly for the A&C Conference each February. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. This 1913 hotel is beautiful and has been nicely maintained. In the past I have stayed in the Vanderbilt wing and in the original building. I prefer the Vanderbilt Wing only due to the size of the rooms, I would prefer to see that all the rooms be furnished in the A&C style, but that is due to my interest in that aesthetic. The main hall has wonderful fireplaces and some cozy seating, although some of the newer furnishings seem to be completely out of place with the environment. The antiques are exquisite. The views are wonderful from the terraces, everyone should find the time to sit back and enjoy them, I have always enjoyed dinner on the Sunset Terrace. Breakfast is always wonderful although very expensive. I agree with some reviewers that it would be very helpful to have a shuttle run to Asheville on a regular basis, not everyone arrives with a car.

We took a long weekend and spent every moment at the hotel. We enjoyed a great breakfast buffet and began our day at the spa. The staff and service were wonderful. I highly recommend getting a massage and enjoy the spa area for the entire day. There is no better way to relax!

It was our 40th Anniversary so we splurged on a night at the Grove Park. The hotel staff was wonderful and the food was good. The cost was out of sight. Plus at dinner time the elevator attandant took an hour break so that meant we had to walk down the stairway with bad knees and it ruined our evening. Won't be staying here again.

It's the beautiful eccentric stone building and the lavish public spaces you'll enjoy the most, plus the warm hospitality of everyone who works there. Rooms are comfortable and the food is good, but it's the architecture and people I remember.

My husband surprised me with a couple of days at Grove Park last week. He called on Tuesday evening to make reservations for Wednesday and Thursday nights. The reservation was very efficient. Several suggestions on room location were made and we got a spacious room- 5057 in the Vanderbilt Wing. I think the room had recently been updated. I loved the bathroom. There was no bathtub (not a problem for us) but the shower was terrific. And we had a nice view of the golf course.
Check in on Wednesday was super fast. The fastest I think I have ever checked in anywhere! We went straight up to the room. Our bellman - Jack - helped with the bags. Jack has worked there for about 10 years (even before it changed hands) so we have seen him before. After unpacking we walked down to the Presidents Lounge (formerly the Magnolia Bar) and had drinks. I recommend the Moscow Mule - very tasty. As we walked to the Lounge we stopped at the new Edison Restaurant and made dinner reservations for Wednesday evening. So we had dinners at the Lounge that overlooks the golf course on the Sammons Wing side. Then had dinner at Edison. Now this is truly a wonderful remodel. They have opened the patio on that Sammons Wing side as part of the Edison Restaurant. They have comfortable seating - couch sitting areas in front of the gas fireplaces too. The food was exceptional - we ordered a pasta dish with braised beef. OH MY - it was delicious. I want that again.
On Thursday we had the buffet breakfast in the Blue Ridge Dining room. As usual it was wonderful. 2 rooms of breakfast items to chose from. Cereals (hot & cold), Eggs, Omelets to order, breakfast meats, breads, sweets and fresh squeezed juices. It does not disappoint! Later in the afternoon we took the onsite shuttle down to the pool area. All the times I have been to Grove Park and this was the first time I ever went to the outdoor pool. It was a nice warm afternoon so we ordered drinks from the Cabana. I loved the Ginger Limeade cocktail. Very refreshing. The pool was open late (8 pm) but we left around 6. We hung out in the Great Hall that evening. I thought I would be bothered by the New furnishings in the Hall but it still had the same familiar feel that I love about Grove Park. I look forward to a trip there in November/December to see the Gingerbread Displays.

Room Tip: splurge for a Mountain View room.

This hotel needs a serious face lift. And the food needs upgrading. Rooms very ordinary, beds were wonderful at the club level, but heard from several other guests that their beds were terrible. Use to never charge for parking, now 15 a day. lots of walking if you have a hard time getting around, can be a problem. have a wonderful store, with gifts from the Mountains. have bought wonderful presents there in the past. No books to buy any where!!
