“Old and dirty - not vintage”
Reviewed 27 June 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Pines for several nights over spring break 2012 and did not like it at all. These cottages are not vintage - they are old and dirty. The floor was not swept when we got there, and there was no rug at the front door so more dirt was tracked in. I got locked out at one point and there was no one in the office to let me in so I had to sit outside and wait for about 45 minutes until someone returned. The bathroom was filthy and the shower stall was peeling apart from the wall. All in all, we couldn't wait to leave.

We booked a room at the Pines for a long weekend getaway and were pleased with our choice. The cabins are basic and just what we needed for a relaxing trip. We cooked every meal at the cabin and the kitchenette was more than sufficient for our needs. We had a bit of a hiccup with the air conditioning when we first arrived but were able to resolve it quickly. The service was excellent, the location is perfect (close to Weaverville and the fancy grocery stores of Asheville), and the relaxing was awesome. We will be back. Save me a rocking chair!!

Room Tip: Take a close look at the amenities in each cabin to meet your trip needs because the offerings diffe...

The cottage was Unclean, Dusty, Dirty, possibly bed bug infected. We had booked a cottage for 3 nights for 300$-(100$/day). When we got in we found the place was dusty and dirty- not sure when it was last cleaned!! We really tried hard to stay here since we had shelled out 300$ +30 $ in taxes. But we could sleep the whole night!! The bed was even dirtier....it was so so dusty that it got into our nostrils...we had to remove the comforter- could not sleep the whole night- the bed was not only dusty , it possibly has bed bugs - it was itchy the whole night !! and we found black specks- the kind you associate w/ bed bugs all over the place - the 2 white couches...the bed...we called the owner the owner Allan. Now this guys is super sleazy and a smmoth operator. At first he told us he would work w/ us to refund the our money for the next 2 days till the time we were in the premises-we had to find another clean place - at a hotel the very next day. Allan asked us to call him back at 3:30 in the afternnon to confirm on the refund- when we tried calling him, he vanished- we left several messages- he never returned our calls. We were hoping for cottagy/ experience- we have ealier booked cottages and had a very pleasant experience. Never did we experience anything like this!! The place place was like a trailer park- there was an abandoned trashed cottage right beside ours!! This place is a junkyard!!

Room Tip: Stay away from Pine Cottages. This place is run down and is like a dirty trailer park. The owner pro...

This is one of those unfortunate reviews. We run a vintage motor court. Our cabins and Cottages are 80 years old. We keep them very clean and are constantly working on the cottages as well as the grounds.
Shortly after arriving, on Memorial Day Weekend, this guest called to say that staying at The Pines was not what his wife expected. This does happen occasionally. She may have had different expectations about her weekend away. Nevertheless, we are a small family run business that depends heavily on seasonal business and peak travel times. Having a customer try to walk out on a reservation on a busy weekend has a huge impact on us. By the time this customer arrived for the weekend we had already had to turn away many potential reservations because we were booked.
The cottage had been cleaned that day. The chairs are not couches and have slip covers that get washed each visit. This business is our livelihood and our passion. We run it together, live here, work here and raise our children here.
The cottage behind Cottage 9 is Cottage 10, which is under renovation; we have painted it outside and in, refinished floors and even hand painted the kitchen floor. There is a tent set-up outside for re-finishing furniture.
Allen spoke with this man many times and even offered to help him find other accommodations but was unwilling to back down on our cancellation policy even after being threatened by a bad review on trip advisor.

My family has stayed at The Pines 3 times in 3 different cottages. It's a great little charming place, mostly untouched from it's original 1930s look. My daughter and I were just there on April on Spring break doing college tours. The Pines was the perfect retreat from sightseeing and touring around the area. We were in cottage 4 and were surprised at how large it was on the inside. I'd definitely recommend this cottage if you are planning an extended stay. There's is plenty of space to move around and the kitchen has all the basis for cooking and eating in. Alan is a great host and Asheville is a wonderful place to visit. Another plus is that it is pet friendly!

Room Tip: Cottage 4 is great for a longer stay - 2 double beds with lots of space between them, a sitting area...

the pines cottages are all that you would love them to be at any season of the year, charming , rustic, vintage fabulous, and tara and allan are superb peeps. I was there in the summertime, it was surprisingly cool compared to hot lanta , the fan white sound just let me drift away......and of course the smell of pine! also awesome wicked coffee house down the road "bulldog", where they make dog beds from imported coffee bean sacks ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Room Tip: if you have a really big car you can park at the bottom.

Just spent 3 glorious nights at the Pines in cottage #7 and we had a glorious groovy time there. The cottage was everything we wanted it to be, a slice of heaven in the mountains. The owners, Allan and Tara were fabulous and great to answer all the questions one could ask. The Pines is convenient to everything in the area and also the Blue Ridge Parkway, which was a sight to behold on this trip for us!! Our dog fell in love with the cottage and all the outings we took him on, which was everywhere. The cottages are rustic in the best way possible, we absolutely adored everything. The kitchen was perfect size and the living and sleeping areas were great. We enjoyed the big fireplace and it gave us a mellow fuzzy warm feeling. Bathroom is great, has a full size tub too!! Sit out on the raised deck outback and look up at the stars; what a beautiful sight. So much enjoyment can be found at the Pines if you're down to earth and just want to feel free and bond with nature. It's just beautiful; we'll be back for sure and cottage #7 it'll be!! Peace!!

Room Tip: Number 7 gets our vote. The fireplace is big and wonderful along with all the rest of this great co...

My Girlfriend and I both loved the Cottage we rented at the Pines. The location was pretty good, the Cottage was very nice, and the camp was quiet. There was not allot to do in the immediate vicinity, but there was a grocery store less than a mile away. The cottage was clean and very comfortable for us. The only complaint we could have had was using the TV manually without a remote, if that is actually a problem. We will be coming back for sure. I read a review about dog hair and the noisy highway, and we had no such experience. The highway is not visible and I could barley hear it at night when I walked the complex. We had no dog hair in our cottage, and the beds were very comfortable.. We used the kitchen to cook a good meal, and we used the hammock in the back yard. It beat the heck out of a hotel. This place is great for the price.
