Owner description: This striking I.M. Pei edifice, famous for its beauty and infamous for falling glass panes, is Boston's tallest building. After terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the popular 60th-floor observatory was permanently closed due to security concerns.

Our friend works in the building and was able to take us up to his office for a spectacular view of the city. It was our second time going up and really provides a breathtaking view of the city - Beacon Hill, Commonwealth Avenue, Boston Common, Charles River, and so on. Get some great photos while you can.

The first time I went to the Hancock Tower was 31 years ago and have revisited several times since. There are excellent 360 degree views of the city. For a change I did the Prudential Building this time. Good but not as high.

Here is a good way to get an overview of the city of Boston. Informative display explain the history and life of the city. Pick a clear day and it is great. Not crowded when we were there and time is unlimited.

New York had the Twins and now the Empire Building, Niagara Falls has the Skylon Tower, Toronto has also it's own and Boston has John Hancock Observatory. Don't miss it if you are in Boston even if you find it overated or you have to be in a queue. It is worthwhile once in your life.
You will not regret for this.

Prudential Center had the best Observation Tower, the Skywalk, and then John Hancock built their's which obscured the Pru's view .. and still does. AFTER 9/11 , John Hancock closed their observation tower which had featured a wonderful interactive history-installation which depicted the changing Boston, the Revolutionary War with red lights for British soldiers and blue for Colonials, etc. NOW, the Prudential is the ONLY Observation Tower of worth. And they have expanded their own educational installation of the sort which had lured tourists to John Hancock's.
