Description: The stunning first floor restaurant in Boston’s Liberty Hotel, Scampo, is a culinary destination created by legendary chef Lydia Shire and The Lyons Group in April of 2008. In Scampo, Shire’s reputation for defying tradition translates into Italian-inspired cuisine unrestrained by borders, drawing on flavors from the Mediterranean and Middle East. Scampo is a reflection of Chef Shire: bold, red and full of energy. The contemporary space features shiny copper lanterns, a glowing orange bar and seating overlooking the mozzarella bar.

We meet our friends from AZ here who were in town for a few nights on business.. We all were staying at the Liberty so it was an easy choice as Lydia Shire is a fablous chef!
We were sat right away (8:15) at a nice table around people laughing and having a great time. Our server (who never told us his name..) came rushing up to us asking us for our entree order... I said well we do not even have drinks.. So he took those after rolling his eyes.. We all noticed (I own two restaurants, My wife is a catering director and our friends wife is VP of Sales for a hotel company) So we all shrugged off his mistake and keep chatting.. As soon as our drinks were dropped by the bar runner he came back to the table asking for our order.. At this time we had barley looked at the menu.. So we asked him to come back in a few minutes.. The only reason we knew about the special was Lydia Shire was in the dining room and came by our table to say hello. She told us about the sucking pig special and chatted for a few minutes.. Then about 10 minutes after that the server came to take our order.. Basiclly from that point on we orderd one or two items at a time and enjoyed a very nice meal.. All the food was out of this world and cannot wait to go back.. As long as I have a different server..

Don't be deceived by the style of the menu which looks like it is from a roadside diner. The food was great. The pasta was fresh, the duck exquisite. Four of us went, and were all very pleased with our meals.

Not so good if you want an intimate dinner as it was noisy, but the noise was basically that of people enjoying their dinner!

A wonderful menu with something for everyone. Pizzas to die for, fresh fish selections, wonderful wine list. Save room for dessert!

Italian, with a good range of ingredients including Europe-sourced ones. This is important as a European proscuitto, for example, tastes completely different from an American one (European meat is grain-fed, whereas American is corn-fed and is quite sweet because of that). Good pizza, great cheese & meat platters/selections. The staff is happy to allow you to "make your own dinner" - by adding or substituting ingredients or selections, which is always a hallmark of a great restaurant to me. The service is great - attentive, on the ball, but very discrete and unobtrusive. The wine list is quite good with a very reasonable markup - only about 2x of retail. The only thing that I don't understand is why their selection of by-the-glass wines features almost exclusively wines from the last 2-3 years? Italian wines of 2-3 years old are usually much too young to be drunk. Highly recommended.

You have to love the decor of this restaurant located inside the former Charles Street Jail. The designers used the structure which was completed in 1851 to reflect the past and honor the architecture but also create a unique vibe. The restaurant is located in Beacon Hill convenient to a variety of activities. The staff was very attentive and the food from the breadsticks to the pizza was very good.
