“Beautiful view”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

Even though you're surrounded by the bustling city, standing in the Common you feel completely at peace. Everybody is relaxed in the garden playing with their dogs or watching a game be played. With the new addition of a small sandwich restaurant, it seems a bit more commercial, but still great.

“Good spot for a stroll”
Reviewed 6 December 2013

Take a break from all the people throwing tea into the bay and walk around the big park in the middle of the city. It has some pretty parts, but a lot of it feels very empty when there's no festival going on. I guess that's not really a detraction, but it doesn't seem as intricate or packed full of views (nice bridges, flowers, etc.). It's alright, but not amazing.

Right in the middle of town, its wonderful to walk through. And don't miss the historic cemetery. Good place for a rest on your walk through town

“Place to rest”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

The Common has existed since Colonial times as the 'commonly owned' pasture for the milk cows of the early inhabitants. In Summer, it's benches, leafy shade and shallow 'Frog Pond' with fountain give you a place to relax, maybe eat some lunch and cool your feet by wading. There's a facility there where the kids can put on bathing suits to play in the shallow water, There's also an adjacent playground in the shade if your kids are tired of walking around museums!! In Winter the Frog Pond is frozen and open for ice skating. It's adjacent to the Public Gardens and the Duckling statues and the swanboats, where children and grownups also can relax. Many Bostonians who work nearby enjoy a visit around lunch time, but it's also a perfect place for visitors, especially those with children, can take a break!!

“Not particularly historic”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

I'm sure people in Boston love the Common and appreciate having some open space in the city to relax or have lunch. But I don't see this as a destination to visit. I didn't see much that was special or historic about the park. There is a sign (near Park Street church) that says the park was used for cow grazing from the city's founding until the 1800's. Yawn. I saw quite a few homeless people in the park, and I did see a "patriot" in period garb marching outside some coffee shop (see photo). Stick to true historic sites.
