I'm an architectural historian, but I didn't realize how spectacular and how important this building is until I toured it with a guide. It was H. H. Richardson's first building in the style that would become known as Richardsonian Romanesque and change American architecture. John La Farge designed the interior and 4 of the many stained glass windows. It is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in art and architecture.

It's beautiful on the outside, but they charge way to much to get inside. Charging for an entrance in church doesn't seem right to me. I mean, isn't that completly different from their beliefs?

We took the guide tour right after the Sunday service. Our guide Pete was very knowledgeable and walked us through the history and artificial background of the church. All the stain glass windows and the artists behind these work was very interesting!
Worth a visit!
