Had a couple of days staying here between business trips and was pleased I chose to stay here. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful about information on the area. My room was nicely furnished and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Basic complimentary breakfast service got me off to a good start each day. The location is idea - surrounded by interesting bars, restaurants and shops. From here I was able to enjoy the local shopping then stroll up pass Boston Common and onto Quincy Market enjoying the warm Autumn sunshine. i would recommend 'Stephanies' for Sunday brunch and 'Charlie's' for dinner - both a short walk from the property.

Room Tip: Room 10 is to the back of the property - be aware that when the restaurant closes, staff will be crashing empty wine bottles into dumpster at 1am.Can have a lot of street noise generally.

We thank you for your kind remarks about the staff, our service and our rooms. We often recommend Charlie's and Stephanie's to our guests so it is great to know we can rely on them.

The staff of the restaurant in the basement of the building is, as I am sure you know, not managed by the hotel. We apologize for the inconvenience and we have spoken with the management and ownership of that restaurant about this incident.

When our new restaurant opens you can be sure we will be very considerate of our guests.

Opening soon - our restaurant - The Creperie on Newbury.

My husband and I stayed at the Newbury Guest House for four nights in November of 2011. Call me weird, but I originally booked it because it looked kinda haunted. It isn't, but our stay there was far from a disappointment.

As we waited to check in, I overheard some guests remark: "we stay here every time we come to Boston!" Always a good thing to hear. The place has an elegant air to it, noticeable as soon as you walk in. It has the look and feel of a B&B, with its inviting guest parlor. Staff is very professional and polite. They gladly gave us helpful instructions on how to catch the subway and train to get to Salem.

We were in Room 202. Our room furnishings included 2 double beds, a writing desk, armchair, a large (37") flat screen TV, nightstand, mini fridge and safe. A fireplace (sealed off) gave the room a homey feel. The room was clean and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was also very clean. Two things I always look for in a good hotel room are A) adequate towels and B) extra pillows... check and check!

The internet was down the first night we spent there, but once they got it up and running, service was reliable.

Things the Newbury Guest House does NOT have: vending machines or an exercise room. For your snack and beverage needs, there's Deluca's Deli on the same block, and a CVS a little ways across the street. As for exercise, Boston is one of the most walkable cities in the U.S. Walk to Public Park and Boston Common and you can join others who are power-walking, jogging and doing everything from push-ups to Tai Chi.

Housekeeping at the NGH was excellent. we came home every day to a neat, clean, tidy room.

A complimentary breakfast is served daily from 6:30- 9:30AM. There is also a French restaurant in the lower level of the building, which always seemed to be busy.

Upon checkout, the front desk staff was happy to call us a cab and thanked us for staying there. It was refreshing being treated like we were someone special. Another bonus is that we were never disturbed by noisy kids or loud guests. The NGH seems to attract a classy clientele. (It should... our 4-night stay cost us a whopping $900... worth it if you can afford it!)

Thank you for your review of our hotel - please contact us directly if your travel plans bring you back to Boston. We will be sure to maintain the hotel to the standards you enjoyed during your visit. We hope this will be your favorite haunt in the Back Bay. Our restaurant should be open by the time you return.

Thanks from all of our staff - Peter D'Angelo

When you want to feel at home in a city like Boston stay at Newbury Guest House. This was my second time experiencing not only the beauty of Newbury Street where Newbury Guest House is nestled but the hospitality experienced by Peter D'Angelo and others.

The rooms are luxurious and affordable, the staff friendly and helpful, and parking when available. One can walk out the door onto Newbury Street to enjoy the shopping, the restaurants, the people or events in the area. It feels like you have walked out of the door of your own home away from home.

Enjoy! ED

This place was a nightmare. We checked in, and the second i stepped in the elevator which smelled like cheech & chong had just been there, i knew we were in trouble. Upon entering our room, i started gagging at the smell. I looked around and aside from general worn conditions on the bedding, carpet, and furniture, we could not find the source of this horrible odor. We discovered in when we went into the bathroom, and there was a pile of feces just sitting there in the shower. It looked as if it had been there for days.
We went down to the front desk to complain, and they acted as if they did not believe us, then the manager came out and said he had to check with the owner before they moved us to another room. About 15 minutes later, the owner stumbled out from behind a doorway. He appeared to be intoxicated. He instructed his manager to check the situation out. At this point, i just wanted to leave. They actually had the nerve to tell us that we still had to pay for the room if we left, but they would give us a 5% discount. We felt like we were in the twighlight zone. This place was gross in every way even without the feces in the shower. Stay at the TAJ while you are in Boston - it is fabulous!

This is a very nice place to stay in Boston. Get your walking legs and your Charlie Card ready though, because it's a few long blocks to the start of the Freedom Trail from the Newbury Guest House, but that just gives you something to look forward to at the end of a long day when you want some peace and quiet. The Newbury Guest House was extremely quiet. We could barely hear any room to room noise and little street noise.
The rooms are very well decorated, with modern tones (think Ikea), nice lighting, very nice bathroom fixtures and equipment, a safe and mini frig in the room, and all very clean.
The breakfast included with the room was first of all unexpected, but perfect. It's not continental but buffet with eggs and bacon, some toast, cereals, teas, coffee and juices, and all with real plates and utensils, no Styrofoam waste.
My only comment to folks is to not expect a bellhop to whisk your luggage up the entrance stairs and to your room. This is a very low frills hotel from those kinds of services, but perfectly acceptable if that's not your expectation.
