“Great place, great location, great service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2014

We were visiting Boston with our high school senior for a college audition and wanted to stay someplace that was walking distance to the T, Boston University, and Symphony Hall. I was also looking for a place that would give our son a favorable impression of Boston since he had never visited before. Found the Newbury Guest House on Trip Advisor (and I'm very glad we did).

Getting to the Guest House from Logan was a breeze (and public transportation from the airport is FREE via the silver line to the T); it was a short walk from the Hynes Convention Center Station.

We reserved a bay window double but were told when checking in that the heat was out in the room we reserved and did we mind having two separate rooms? From that moment, I knew we were going to have a great stay – a room for us and our teenager in his own room. The fourth floor rooms were clean, quiet and very comfortable. The beds were great. It was cold while we were visiting but the rooms were warm. Bathrooms were serviceable (shower, no tub). Our son’s room overlooked Newbury Street while ours faced the back alley. Breakfast, included in your room rate, is served in The Creperie adjoining the guest house. The buffet style breakfast included scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast, yogurt and cut mixed fruit. The restaurant itself was very pleasant with fresh flowers on each table and bay windows overlooking Newbury Street.

For lunch or dinner, we found lots of choices within a short walk of the hotel. Piattini’s, a nice Italian place with great food (try the scallop dish) and wine selection, is just down and across the street from the guest house. Just a few doors down is Kashmir – fabulous Indian food and decent beers and wine on their menu. Our son wanted breakfast one night and found it at Trident Booksellers and Café a short walk down the street (try the Morning Monte Cristo or the Bananas and Caramel Stuffed Pancakes).

The hotel staff was very nice and really accommodating. My brother came to see us one of the days we were there and needed a place to park. They were happy to add a day of parking to our tab (it was much less expensive for him to park at the guest house than in one of the public garages). On our last morning, my brother, his wife and son joined us for breakfast. My brother asked to pay and the hotel staff said, “No charge.” They even took our picture for us in the comfortable front room sitting area.

For those needing to work, their wireless internet worked well (stable and fast enough).

The guest house was a great base for our Boston adventures and the staff were friendly, helpful and kind. Walking distance to Boston University and Symphony Hall where we caught a Friday afternoon BSO concert. The Newbury Guest House is where we’re staying for any future trips to Boston or Cambridge.

Room Tip: Our upper floor rooms were quiet. If it's a weekend, Newbury Street can be noisy so maybe ask fo...

We stayed three nights in December between blizzards. Our room overlooked Newbury Street and it was a joy to look out onto the beautiful snow-covered streets.
The guest house was close to everything; either walking or a subway ride.
The staff was pleasant and helpful. Our room was cozy and spacious, and the bed was exceedingly comfortable. A most pleasant stay. We will return.

My wife and I checked in at the Newbury Guest House on January 2, 2014 for two days. Boston was hit with the Nor'easter Hercules that day, so our stay was frigid, white, and wintry. The city was pretty much closed down, but the Newbury Guest House is close to everything in the Back Bay area -- restaurants, shops, and sights (a short walk to Trinity Church, Trident Book Store, public transportation, Boston Marathon finish line). The hotel itself is the combination of three old townhouses, and it has a very homey, cozy feel about it. There is a big lobby, free wi-fi, free breakfast at the French crepe restaurant next door, and off-street parking ($20/day). This hotel is a great home base for exploring the city. The room was comfortable, smallish but adequate, with a small bathroom, and typical soaps, shampoos, and air dryer. Not luxurious, but very comfortable. The hotel staff cleaned off our car from all the snow from the storm and shoveled the area where we were parked.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bay window -- a little bigger with a view of Newbury Street, If you are drivi...

I booked this hotel over the larger ones in the area based on the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor. The breakfast and location were both excellent. Newbury Street is a fabulous place to stay, with great shopping, restaurants and public transport nearby. The Guest House really lacked in other areas, however. The staff was not at all welcoming or accommodating. Actually, every person I encountered over 3 days seemed quite annoyed to be there. The room was very plain and dirty in some areas. There was mold on the ceiling in the shower. The bathroom products are poor, and did not even include conditioner (nor was it available). The next time in Boston will be back to the Lenox or Hotel Commonwealth.

This is an excellent guesthouse in one of the best locations in Boston - on Newbury St in Back Bay, with its wonderful shops and good restaurants. Short walk to the T line, which provides access to the major museums. Also only a short walk from Symphony Hall for the concert-lover. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with large windows overlooking the street. It was also warm during a very cold spell, whilst not being overheated. Downstairs is a comfortable lounge area with tea and coffee always available. And a definite plus is the included hot breakfast in the very good creperie next door. This guesthouse is excellent value for money and I would definitely stay there again.

The location is superb on Newbury street which is a pretty and trendy street of old Victorian houses. You feel like your on the doorstep of the city without being in the hustle bustle. The neighbourhood was safe to walk, no problem and the T line is only 5-10 minutes away.

The room was lovely and well appointed with a comfy bed and the staff pleasant and breakfast great.

Highly recommended.

What a treat to stay at the Newbury Guest House on the famous Newbury Street in Boston. All the staff went beyond what was expected to make our stay so wonderful. Our room had beautiful windows overlooking the street. There was a delicious crepe restaurant right below our room and a fantastic pastry shop opened the last day we were there. The room was very comfortable with spacious ceilings and even a sitting area in front of the window! Am looking forward to returning there in the future.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the street was a treat.
