“paid $250 for $1000 worth of damage to my car”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

Spouse gave me tickets to a show and a night in a hotel for as a special gift. Parking was included in the hotel rate. We drove in and followed the giant sign into the adjacent garage that said "Hyatt Parking Garage." When we got inside the hotel we asked about having the parking ticket validated, and they said, no, we HAD to use the valet service. Okay. Fine. Schlep back out to the garage to get the car. Drive OUT and around the block to the valet entrance. They take my keys and a tip. When my spouse got out of the passenger side at our next stop (in the next state), she noticed a big dent in the door that had not been there the day before.

For the first few days as we pursued a resolution, the hotel kept insisting that it was a separate business, as though that somehow made it not their problem, even though my interaction with the parking situation was done entirely through Hyatt, and has Hyatt's name and logo all over it. Finally I got in touch with Jeff, who is "Director of Rooms" at the hotel. To his credit, he went to bat for me and tried to get the issue resolved. He appeared to be the only one who understood the seriously bad nature of this customer experience.

In the end, though, it was not enough. I've been back and forth on this for two months now. After jumping through a whole bunch of hoops, visits to the body shop, conversations with the parking company's insurance company ... no dice. Claim denied.

This experience completely overshadows the rest of the encounter with the hotel. Nothing else about this or any other Hyatt is relevant to me at this point because basically we paied $250 to get $1,000 worth of damage done to our car and a huge hassle on top of it.

Hello, Tony S, Thank you for taking time to leave a review. Our sincerest apologies for the stress that ensued after your stay and for the parking difficulties. I can assure you that this certainly is not indicative of Hyatt service nor our authentic hospitality. I know that our Rooms Director is aware and currently addressing the situation. Certainly, we are all willing to help in any way that we can for a proper and complete resolution. Please be in touch should you wish to discuss this matter further. All my best, Emily qualitybosto@hyatt.com

The location of hotel is really good. You can go to wherever you want to.... The hotel staff are pretty kind and helpful. In addition, the room was also pretty clean and cozy. If there are complimentary breakfast and shuttle from/to airport, it is perfect.

We were travelling to boston from new york and then heading up towards maine and found the parking costs were $49 a night..ouch. This hotel did a valet parking and stay deal that wasn't extortionate. The rooms were great and a nice size although we only slept in them. The hotel is situated extremely close to the start of the freedom trail as well as the rest of the city. We did eat in the restaurant the first night as we got in late but that was superb as well. Tip if your doing the freedom trail is to get a sea taxi back from the naval base straight into the heart of boston for $3 each saving a whole lot of leg muscles. It's a shame we only booked 2 nights as boston is simply fabulous and don't forget to check out quince market in the day to be overwhelmed by fast food of all sorts and the Union Oyster House for a great evening meal in a fab setting. My only down comment to the management is about the pillows, as with a huge bed you get two of the smallest pillows in the world and you lay them side to ide and your head goes between them on your side of the bed.

Jezz c, Hello, and thank you for your review! Sounds like you enjoyed a trip up the east coast hitting some great areas such as New York, Massachusetts and Maine! Although parking in Boston can be more expensive than other cities I was thrilled to see you took advantage of our parking package. Thank you for sharing with our fellow TripAdvisor readers how you took advantage of our location which is in walking distance to the Freedom Trail & Union Oyster House--both major historical must-sees! We want to ensure that we provide exceptional hospitality during your stay so please just let an associate know if extra bedding is required; we would love to assist. I hope you enjoyed the remainder of what sounds like a great trip! Please come back and visit us again, our guestrooms will continue to be spacious but a remodel is around the corner. Have stayed here many times. The hotel has recently been refurbished and the result is nice. The staff is very professional and caring.
The breakfast buffet is excellent in quality and selections. Dinner on the weekend was a most pleasant surprise. Weather was iffy so we opted to try the hotel. It was on par with many upscale restaurants in Boston.
I only have one issue: There is NO place to buy a local Boston newspaper in the entire hotel.

Room Tip: The staff is extremely helpful. The hotel has been updated recently and it is a welcome change. The...

Hello, doylemoore, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are glad to hear that you had a wonderful time and that you enjoyed the newly renovated lobby and ballrooms! We are set to undergo a guestroom renovation at the end of the year to ensure that your enjoyment is present throughout your stay. When you visit next, please ask the front desk to have the local Boston newspaper delivered to your room. We prefer to offer exceptional service rather than have our guests obtain their own newspapers. Or, if you'd like you can email us and we can note your preferences in your profile. First of all, Thank you Sarah for the early check in. Everyone was awesome.... The Gym, pool and sauna were outstanding . My wife would recommend Bath Robes..but again (..you can't beat the price). The location was great... We landed from Ft. Lauderdale to Logan, took the silver line to south station, then red line to down town crossing..Free! Great Food great places to visit..so much History! The hotel is attached to Macys. People were very friendly and walking around town was such a pleasure. The rooms have a safe and a small refrigerator along with comfortable beds. The elevators were a Bit slow..but..hey, You can't please everyone!... Definitely recommend and will stay again.....

Ours certainly wasn't a BAD stay. The room was decent and clean, and the location is what I liked best about it. You're right next to Washington Street, the Theatre District, Boston Common, and so much more.

However, I realize that this is Boston and accommodations are insanely expensive; however, for the price you pay little things like WiFi should be included.

Finally, while the room was decent it was by no means fancy, despite the cost, and we have stayed in much nicer rooms in other high-priced cities - like San Francisco and New York - for much less.

That said, if you're going to Boston and you've surrendered to the inevitability of paying through the nose for accommodations you could certainly do worse than this hotel.
