I loved the simple, no frills elegance of this Inn. It definitely meets all needs, except perhaps for quiet. If your room , as mine was, is on the T (MGH stop is right outside almost) side of the building, there is noise. I am planning on staying in a suite on the garden side the next time I go.
The value is amazing and the ambiance relaxed. Breakfast offerings are simple, but in a lovely living room. It is next door practically to Mass General and Mass Eye and Ear, so a very convenient and reasonably priced if you have early morning appointments.

Room Tip: All the studios and standard rooms are on the noisy side of the building.

Stayed here prior to ear surgery, and the start of the blizzard of 2014. Friendly staff, well appointed room. Near the T, but that also means there is quite a lot of rumbling "as the train comes rumbling through". Remember the MTA song?
Anyway, be sure to ask for a room that doesn't face the T tracks if you want it quieter . Also, if you park in the nearby Charles Street garage, there is a discount if you get the ticket validated at the Jeffries desk as you check out. Can't actually drive up to the front of the House, as there is some street construction going on.
Breakfast consisted of various muffins, OJ, bananas, coffee or tea. We ate a light supper almost across the street at the Sevens, (77 Charles Street) which is a pub with good sandwiches. The room had a refrigerator, stove and microwave. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Looks like there is no AC in the summer, as there was a large fan in the coat closet.

My wife and I stayed at the John Jeffries House during the first week in December, for a weekend in Boston and we couldn't have picked a better location. It is located just across from the t-line, but it is within walking distance (about 3 short blocks) of downtown and Boston Common Park. The area is completely safe and the price of the Jeffries House is well worth it. You don't really hear the traffic noise, but you do hear the sirens from the hospital across the street when the ambulances go out. We had a fan in our room and that drowned out a great deal of the noise. We also jumped on the T-line that took us to the airport. Overall, it was a great price for the location. Staff was pleasant and helpful and beds were good. Just rolls and fruit for breakfast.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Charles St. are your best option.

We have stayed here several times while at Mass Eye&Ear. It's location is great near the hospital but also near the red line T stop and the esplanade. The rooms are clean,it is tastefully decorated and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Some of the rooms have small kitchens. There is also a continental breakfast and free wi fi which makes it a real bargain in Boston. It is at the end of Charles St.so you have lots of small restaurants and small markets close by. A real find.

Room Tip: Ask if you want a room with a mini kitchen.

I booked a room last minute after an unexpected overnight stay for my husband at MA Eye and Ear. The proximity to the hospital is wonderful. It was very clean and I was happy to get a room. I felt it was priced high. The room was a suite with a very nice kitchen area and small table and chairs. I did not use any of that but I can see it would be helpful in some cases. The bedroom area was extremely small, as was the bed. It also seemed old. Continental breakfast was minimal but sufficient.

If you ever have to stay in Boston, this is the place. Great location just at the end of Charles Street and across the road the T (Red Line). We stayed in a small suite and found having the two rooms, plus the efficiency kitchen gave it a feeling of more than a hotel room. We were staying late autumn and the hotel was warm and cosy with fully adjustable heating in the room. The rooms were comfortable, well appointed and immaculately clean. The common areas were also immaculate and the Common Room where the continental breakfast is served and eaten was decorated like a Beacon Hill drawing room. Classy and comfortable. The staff at the desk were friendly and helpful. All in all a great stay. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the John Jeffries House for 4 nights in September. The location couldn't have been better with the T right across the way. Room was spacious and very comfortable if oddly layer out, due to shape of building. It was warm but I did notice a fan in the wardrobe. We kept the windows open and soon got used to the noise of the trains and ambulances. Wifi worked in the room, but the connection was faster in the lounge. Help yourself continental style breakfast was limited to fruit, muffins, tea & coffee etc and was available in the lounge area (I guess you could have carried it up to the room too). Tea, coffee and fruit available all day/night, which I thought was a nice touch. The staff were unobtrusive and efficient. The neighbourhood of Beacon Hill offers many pleasant dining experiences. We would definitely stay here again and provided you don't mind the risk of a room on the front where the noise level maybe higher, we'd certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: River facing room recommended
