It was a nice hotel for the price. The location is very good as long as you don't mind taking the T. If you are unlucky, could be noisy due to many ambulances heading to the big hospital located right in front of them.

This hotel was a great value. Incredibly close to the T station. Comfortable rooms, good restaurants near by. Very charming, rooms are not huge, but adequate. Great water pressure! I would definitely stay here again!

Stayed here for 4 days during my daughter's college graduation. Fantastic location, with the T, big CVS drugstore, and lots of restaurants close by. As it's directly on the Red Line subway, it's more convenient to Harvard or MIT than 'closer' options which are three or four times the price. Unlike others, John Jeffries' rate doesn't triple during graduation season. The outside gardens are pretty, service was generally good, maids were great, room clean and comfortable (we had a kitchenette which was handy) and nice complimentary fruit and coffee available in the lounge. Elevator access available if you have trouble with the entry stairs which are a steep 1/2 flight. There is a lovely walk along the Charles River just outside the hotel doors. Only suggestion is that the 'light breakfast' was only suitable for sugar addicts-- (maybe that's what they mean by 'American'?) very stale and very sweet donuts being the only option. Some cold cereal or even a bagel or toast would be far better.

I called at the last minute to secure a room in the midst of a snowstorm - which prevented my further progress home to NH. A fellow traveler from Boston suggested this lovely inn and was kind enough to see me to the door from Logan Airport. The Inn is just across the street from the Mass General Hospital T stop (Red LIne), so very convenient to anyone traveling by T.

The room was cozy & comfortable with a microwave, stovetop, refrigerator and private bath. WiFi was included as was a light continental breakfast with good coffee. Charles Street offers many restaurant options. The only downside was the occasional siren, but that is inevitable in a city. I slept like a baby. The staff was accommodating and available 24 hours if needed. Great price, especially for the location. This is one of the best deals for accommodations in Boston.

One tip: if you are coming from Logan airport, take the bus labeled Silver Line T to South Station (free) for a quick transfer to the red line where you will exit at MGH/Charles Street. Cross the street and you are there.

We stayed here as a group in Sept. 2022 and loved it. It is an historic house, formerly a nurses' home for the Massachusetts Infirmary, close by. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century. It was sympathetically renovated in 1986 and what an excellent job they made of the renovation- it is utterly charming. The public rooms are reminiscent of an English stately home in style- lovely reproduction furniture and upholstery make it a delightful experience for lovers of history or anyone else who is tired of modern corporate brand hotels, to stay here. Bedrooms have all mod cons, tho' and the kitchenettes included in most rooms are a boon for people who want a change from eating out or want to save their money to spend on the many other attractions Boston has to over. There are also take-aways nearby. Staff were most helpful and friendly and the location just great, close by the historic area of Beacon Hill, but an easy walk to other Boston attractions and very near shops, the "T" subway station .and many good restaurants and cafés . Breakfast very different but tasty, especially if you have a sweet tooth- lots of lovely cakes and muffins. Tea and coffee available all day. They will order lunch and dinner for you to eat in your room, from the nearby Panifico restaurant, too. All in all a great experience I just wish I had realised that there was a garden! I will definitely stay there again if I am lucky enough to return to Boston!

John Jeffries house was a fabulous location, just at the end of Charles st, perfect for getting to the T and lots of facilities close by - restaurants, cleaners, chemist and Whole foods a short walk away. Although we didn't avail ourselves, there is an American continental breakfast included. Affordable rate, good wifi and cable tv. Very pretty area, close to Boston Common. Easy walk to the shopping street in town. We loved the area. Great shower, reasonable bed. Not overly friendly or helpful desk staff, but that didn't affect out stay at all. As Aussies we found the inside temperature stifling, and had trouble getting it right in order to sleep. However, better than being cold! Very pretty historic building and grounds.
We would stay here again, you can't beat Beacon Hill as a location.

Hi, we stayed here on our wedding weekend, and had about 20 rooms of guests. Everyone had a nice stay. Located across from Storrow Drive and the Esplanade, and Charles/MGH Red Line stop in Beacon Hill. Breakfast left a little to be desired, but overall a very nice stay. Cheapest hotel in Boston for the location.

Room Tip: no pool or fitness ctr
