“Good hotel, great location”
Reviewed 8 August 2011

Got off a flight from Newark to Boston having flown from Manchester UK. I was horribly sweaty before I even got to Manchester, had baggage trauma at Newark (not an airport I'd recommend) and eventually arrived at The Lenox hot, tired & smelly. The door staff were utterly charming, as were the staff at reception.
The location is great, everywhere is walkable.
Breakfast wasn't included but there's a 7-11 over the road, and a bakery/deli attached to the hotel.
Wifi was only available in reception.

I have stayed in the Lenox three times and always during the peak season, when the usual seamless service of many good hotels tends to crack under pressure. But not the Lenox, From the friendly and enthusiastic lobby staff to the service staff to the restaurant staff this is A1 service all the way. Even the room cleaning staff seem imbued with the same friendly attitude. And what a comparison with the uber cool and over priced The Mark Hotel in New York. As a benchmark the Lenox spoils you rotten - and I live in Asia where top hotels are, well .. top!. Can I find a complaint? Well this is an old hotel and the lift service is a tad slow, but well compensated by that friendly Boston welcome and service. Keep it up guys.

Room Tip: The Copley MRTA station nearby is ideal for access to the city and to the Art Museum area as well as...

We'd never stayed in Boston before and we wanted our first trip to be really special, including staying at a great hotel. We booked a room at the Lenox Hotel based on the reviews we read in tripadvisor. We were not disappointed! First, the location is perfect. It's in the heart of the Back Bay section, where there are lots of wonderful restaurants, shops, and beautiful residences. The historic sites are also easily within walking distance. But even better, the hotel itself was fantastic, every aspect of it! The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The room was spacious and elegant and had a huge walk-in closet. One thing we really appreciated is that the refrigerator wasn't fully stocked with items to buy. The only things in the fridge were complimentary bottles of water that were replenished each day of our stay. There is a huge list in the room of complimentary items the hotel will provide if you need or want them. We asked the concierge if there was a soda machine in the building. He asked what we wanted and I told him Diet Coke. He asked if Pepsi was OK and I said no. Within 5 minutes, he delivered two cold bottles of Diet Coke to our room personally, no charge! The hotel has a turn-down service and left chocolate truffles on our bed each night, there was free wireless service, a regular check-out time was later than most hotels, and fruit and cookies at the front desk for guests. This hotel does not nickel-and-dime its customers! If we had to identify anything negative about our stay, it was only that the bottom of the door let in a little too much light at night. That was easily remedied by putting the pillow shams against the door.

My family and I just finished a one week stay at the Lenox (July 29-Aug 5 inclusive). We enjoyed it very much. It is very well located, with access to many restaurants and shopping (Abe and Louis's, the Atlantic Fish Co., etc.), the Prudential Centre, a Lord and Taylor department store, and a variety of higher end shops along Newbury Street. There is also a Lindt chocolate store right next store (too tempting!) The hotel itself is lovely and it has two restaurants on site (very convenient) - City Table and Solas. We went to both more than once. Solas is very reasonable and has a nice selection of entrees. City Table was awesome for breakfast. We ate there more than once, and enjoyed a full breakfast and very good service. For those who wish a light breakfast, the hotel has fresh bananas and tea/coffee available each morning in the lobby. In the afternoon, it's iced tea and cookies. This was a welcome, refreshing treat after walking in the hot sun sight seeing. We used room service twice and we were impressed with the service, the quality of the food, and the pricing (comparable to the prices in the restaurants).

However, what really distinguishes the Lenox is the service. Every single staff member said hello and greeted us, at all times. We were always welcomed back to the hotel when we pulled up in a cab at the end of the day. If we had a question, every effort was made to answer it, even if it meant asking someone else. The concierge was very helpful and accommodating. The front desk staff were always pleasant, and they willingly changed my $20 and $50 dollar bills into smaller denominations on many occasions. They loaned us an umbrella on a rainy day (one of the many items they offer for travellers to borrow, and in some cases, keep). Everyone went out of the way to make sure we were happy and well taken care of. We did not have any complaints, but I am convinced that if we had, they would have been dealt with and rectified. The staff at the hotel want you to leave happy, and they direct all their efforts at making sure that the hotel meets all of your expectations.

In summary, we would return to the Lenox again, without a doubt. We felt that we were appreciated and our patronage was valued. I might opt for a Junior Suite next time, rather than a Superior Double room (two double beds).

Pros: very centrally located near restaurants and shopping, beautiful decor and lobby, room was clean and comfortable, great on-site restaurants, great service all around, room to print off boarding passes, business centre, exercise room, bottled water in room (complimentary), complimentary drinks, treats in lobby (as mentioned previously).

Cons: the only one we found was that the bathroom was a little small and sometimes it was crowded with the two of us; however, we kept in mind that the building was older, and this was a boutique hotel, so we didn't find this to be a huge problem, and we worked around it.

Loved loved loved the Lenox. We are a family of four (two adults and two kids ages 5 and 8). By far the best hotel in Boston. We travel there every year and this will now become our yearly hotel. From the time we stepped inside the lobby until the time we left, we felt very welcomed. Excellent location and excellent staff.

The Lenox is clearly old, but well maintained. The old elevators and old feel give it charm. However updates have been made where it counts (baths, double pane windows etc). Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the larger rooms. The location on Boylston street is fantastic, walk to Copley, Newbury street and the Prudential center. The room was very quiet despite facing the street, high quality decor, Aveda bath products. Nice that a mini fridge with comp bottled water was in the room. A pay mini bar would be a nice addition. Odd that there were no drinking glasses in the bathroom and the in-room safe wasn't big enough for a laptop. Very nice staff who helped me navigate Boston. Free Wi-fi as well. City Bar in the lobby is very cool. I would stay here again anytime.

Stayed in room #621 with two double beds for one night. Not much to look at from the room (one side overlooks roof of Lord and Taylor) but the light was good and the blackout curtains worked like a charm. A spacious room with comfy beds. Check in was easy and so was valet parking ($43 gets you until 2pm the following day). Had coffee room service and it was fast & polite. Ate breakfast downstairs in the café and it was good, as was the service. All the staff was super helpful – from check in to luggage guys to valet. The neighborhood is wonderful – tons of shopping at Copley and Pru Center + many restaurants. Now to the less-than-wonderful (and if I’d not paid $410 + taxes and parking, I would overlook these things – but a hotel at this level should get it all just right): The doorknob in the bathroom was broken. There was only one robe. No umbrella (they did have umbrellas at the desk in lobby). The clock had a dead battery in it. The ice machine in hallway did not work. Again, these are little things that would merit no mention at a lesser hotel. I would stay here again, but not for $410/nite.
