Stayed in one of those last minute deals, otherwise, I wouldn't have paid the original price. It is expensive but it is a luxury hotel. The staff was overly nice. We checked in early and had them hold on to our bags with no issues or delays. Request a room (if able to) that looks over Pearl as there is an open park and you can see lots of downtown. Everything about the room was top notch, though a little small but what you'd expect in an older hotel. The only issue I have was the price, which was mostly avoided using a last minute deal.

Room Tip: Look over Pearl, there is an open park that direction.

Under most circumstances my mother and I would never stay at a hotel like this but when you wait until the last minute to book a room your choices are limited and expensive! We weren't too thrilled about the price but from the moment we were dropped at the entry to the minute we left for the airport we smiled! It didn't matter that we showed up in jeans and tussled hair; we were treated with the same courtesy, warmth, and kindness as the woman with the Gucci bag and the man with the Breitling watch! Our favorite memory is how our jaws dropped when we opened the door to our room and had to tilt our heads back to see the top of the towering ceilings. The best part was feeling like little kids on an Easter egg hunt as we kept finding the joys of simple amenities like slippers, chocolate on the bed, extra large towels, a plethora of quality pens ( we took every one, hee hee) but it was the umbrella in the corner that made the whole experience worth the money. Why? Have you ever heard an eighty-year-old woman say, "There's even a f@!%ing umbrella!" and then hold it above her head like Mary Poppins?? WORTH THE LAUGH!!! Okay, on the serious side it is in a wonderful location to explore Boston on foot and we highly recommend the Sunday breakfast brunch even if you don't stay at the hotel. It surpassed all our expectations and was less expensive than the one at home. If you book ahead you won't have to pay 1/2 a semester's tuition to stay and if you can afford a little luxury...enjoy the ambience, the staff, and the umbrella!!! Donald Trump ain't got nothin' on us!

My husband and I stayed here during the 2014 Boston Marathon. My husband was running in the Marathon so we wanted a hotel close to the start and finish. It was relatively close to the start line (probably about a 10 minute walk) and about a 20 minute walk from the finish line. The hotel is pretty fancy with a doorman, concierge, bell men, and maid turn-down service. The maid service can be a bit on the intrusive side as you first get the maid who comes in to clean your room, then later, you have a head-housekeeper who comes to your door to make sure your room was cleaned properly, then early evening, the turn-down maid comes in to turn your bed down, leave slippers, and chocolates on your bed. All very nice but not necessary, in our opinion. We finally put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the doorknob to keep them away.

The bed was very comfortable and the heating/cooling system was excellent and quiet. The shower pressure was superb! The bathroom was nice but I did slip and fall pretty hard on the floor because they laid a bathroom rug in it with no rubber backing to keep it from slipping out from under you. The floor is tile and I went down hard, bruising my elbow. A month later, I still have a huge knot on my arm. The rug is dangerous without a no-slip backing and makes no sense to be there.

Overall, I would recommend the hotel even though it is a bit on the pricey side; but so is everything in Boston.

Elegance in the heart of the city, very classic style in the rooms as they have charm and detail. The public areas are well finished but the winner in this property is the bar, it's very lively with a nice atmosphere and fantastic service. The breakfast is also excellent with the usual standard of service. My preferred central Boston home.

I stayed one night in a rather palatial room -- probably 20 foot ceilings, beautiful drapes, very comfortable bed, couch and chairs. Staff members were very kind and helpful. Unfortunately, there's nowhere in the hotel to eat if your timing doesn't match primary mealtimes--lots of places nearby, but nothing inside. Can't speak to their restaurant, but the banquet food I had was at best second rate. Location great for business or touring Faneuil Hall marketplace and the waterfront/harbor.

Room Tip: My room on a low floor (second?) was lovely but without a view. I'm told higher rooms have grea...

A large traditional (luxury) hotel located in the main business district of Boston, close to the centre of the City and the waterfront. The hotel appears to mainly cater for business people and we felt slightly out of place in our jeans and T-shirts. Having said that we received a great welcome and found all of the staff to be very friendly and attentive. The room allocated to us was of the size you would expect in a city (not that large) and was well furnished, clean and had the usual extras you would expect of a hotel of this grade. Our only gripe was that the windows of the room faced inward into the central core of the building, which was used as a swimming pool and fitness centre. As a result, we experienced some noise and light, which entered through the badly fitting curtains. If you are visiting Boston we would recommend this hotel to you.

Room Tip: Request a room on a high floor, not overlooking the swimming pool.
