“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2012

We stayed in the guest room for 3 days. It was a long climb up 2 flights of stairs but once there the room was very comfortable and well furnished. As mentioned by other reviewers, Terrence was very helpful, giving us lots of useful information about the local area and other attractions we might like to visit.

The Inn is in a quiet residential area and the directions Terence gave us for travelling by subway from the airport were very easy to follow.

The room is equipped with virtually everything one might need including lots of interesting books and decoration and we found it extremely comfortable. The Inn is conveniently located, just a short walk from Roxbury Crossing subway which means it is very easy to get into town. Back Bay is only 3 stops on the subway and here you can find lots of good restaurants. We can highly recommend "Legal Seafood".

We arrived in Boston (our first visit there) for a weekend at the start of our honeymoon road trip, and we could not have found a more lovely place to stay.

This cosy Inn only a few stops from the centre of town, is impeccably decorated with art, antiques and books which all add to a very homely and fascinating base for our trip.

Despite the weather being very warm (by our Scottish standards) the air-conditioning worked a treat and we slept well on the comfy big bed.

It was very easy to find the local train station and on one of our days, we even walked all the way back from downtown - in stages, to take in some sights along the way.

Our only regret was not getting to meet the owner Terry, who was away travelling.

I'd definitely recommend this place, and hope to return.

Our host, Terry, was kind enough to accommodate our extremely early arrival. Easy to find and very close to public transport in a quiet neighborhood. Upon arrival we found the cute 2 bedroom apartment to be neat, tidy and comfortable. A home away from home really. Plenty of helpful visitor information was available. Great place and very reasonable pricing. Thanks for having us!

We had a great stay at Fort Hill Inn. On arrival we were upgraded to an apartment which was absolutely beautiful, and a lovely base to see Boston from. Terry was very friendly and helpful and there was loads of information about Boston and sightseeing tips/maps etc. The kitchen enabled us to buy in food for breakfast which made our stay cheaper, and we really liked the location -- a nice residential neighbourhood just a few stops from the centre but with its own quieter feel. Would definitely recommend Fort Hill Inn to friends and family.

Fort Hills Inn was a wonderful home away from home for us. Authentic building, welcoming owner, convenient location to the subway station that provides an easy access to every sightseeing place , quite neighborhood.
The apartment was very clean and comfortable - charming place overall.
We definitely recommend this Inn.

We got lost trying to find the Fort Hill Inn when we drove into Boston off the interstate, but it was worth the effort. Location was a bit of an issue. It's a little Civil-War-era rowhouse tucked into a private cul-de-sac on the fringes of the Roxbury area. The immediate surrounding area was a gorgeously historic, quirky mix of antebellum mansions and brownstones that was truly quiet and friendly (apparently anything Roxbury has a 'reputation,' this area was lovely). The nearest "T" stop (Roxbury Crossing?) is across the street from a huge modern mosque, and we chatted with some nice guys who were breaking their Ramadan fast at a tiny nearby cafe in the evening. So, the neighborhood was reminiscent of our own (Flatbush, Brooklyn), in its mix of diverse working-class folks and slightly ahead-of-the-curve gentrifiers. The art museum is a 20-minute walk away, and the 'T' (once you get used to its mysteries) well serves the North End and central Boston areas. However, it's not your basic Hyatt-in-the-middle-of-everything, obviously.
Our 'suite' was actually a fully-appointed duplex apartment decorated in lush high urban style, with a full kitchen, high-tech inflatable fold-out bed in the living room, and cozy bedroom downstairs; the hallway retained the Victorian feel of dark, posh original detail, so the contrast was charming. We stayed only 2 nights but wished it could've been longer, even with the train ride needed to access most Boston attractions.
Two caveats: One. The owners do NOT offer breakfast (they are up-front about this), but it's not like you can just skip down the block to a Starbucks. Aside from a Domino's and an always-closed cafe at the 'T', there is NOWHERE to eat or even a bodega to buy milk or coffee at unless you walk a looong way (10+ blocks). Our flat had a fridge and coffee maker, but we had to make do with powdered creamer and then find breakfast once we were afoot. Given the lack of easily walkable amenities, I would urge the owners to provide a coffee set-up in the morning plus some pastries and fruit, even if only on a tray in the hallway.
Second caveat: In the ground-floor duplex unit we took, the downstairs bedroom was accessible only by a VERY narrow, steep, and winding iron spiral staircase: quaint, but quite perilous for anyone with orthopedic, visual or balance problems. The folks who run Fort Hill Inn, who were gracious and accommodating, would do well to make this clear in advance.

Room Tip: Downstairs duplex is a fully equipped apartment, but lower-floor bedroom requires navigating a steep...

We rented an apartment at the Fort Hill Inn and found it to be comfortable, tastefully and thoughtfully arranged, well-stocked and a total delight. The little street on which we were located is charming and quiet and parking was easily available and convenient. We would come again.

Room Tip: If you're bringing a car to Boston, the ease of parking is a great asset at this location. Publ...
